i would think plain water with nothing would be better than the ultra low ph you could have made.I would drain reservoir imediataly and replace with un PHed water

I agree with moneyshot, and it is also my strong opinion that we should all have the little 2 ounce bottle of GH liquid pH indicator handy at all times to verify that indeed our pH calibration is correct. This is similar to the 'outside check' concept in analytical chemistry, where you check the accuracy of your calibration on a solution of known pH that is NOT one of the calibration standards- but in this case, you're using a different TOOL to check the SAME solution. Well, your res anyway.

If you own a pH meter you also need to have a set of calibration buffers, or you're wandering around in the dark.

Also, if you are using distilled water you have to use calmag.

Oh shit I didn't see that the hydro shop DID a cal for you. That is really freaking weird. I'd take it back and find out what they did, and have them re-check it against their buffers. What is the brand of meter?

you would think they got it right, unless the guy was a complete braindead stoner or he has never done it before. theres a possibility it used a different fluid. like mine uses a 6.86 instead of a 7.01 fluid to calibrate. get the liquid drops for backup and additional testing. get right calibration fluids. calibrate yourself, should beable too

also sometimes it takes more than 1 time to calibrate right and maybe something freaked out on the meter while calibrating it.

also any time the ph meter sits for a while or battery goes out it should be calibrated/checked to be safe it is working properly
