How important is it to prevent all light leaks during the dark period of an 18/6 veg cycle? I know its much more important during flowering but do small light leaks still stress plants during vegetative growth? Thanks for the help

yes, i believe it 'confuses' the plant and may cause hermaphroditism
Light leaks during veg aren't as bad compared to light leaks during flower, but it's still not something you want.

if you are worried about light leaks during veg go to a 24/0 cycle and you should have no worries
i would fix the leak so i didnt spend another 6hrs on running lights, but if you cant fix then go 24/0 and be safe

Tex is right. If you can't control your dark cycle, you should be running on constant light.
