from everything i've read and from my own limited experience i'd say once you see some healthy roots, you're good to go. by 'some' i mean more than a few thin little tendrils, i mean a fair little root mass, and remember, they're a little fragile so handle gently

If you are running in hydroton, first soak it to set the pH to 6.0.
Then, take a big bucket and fill it with room temperature tap water. If you are feeling OCD, set it to 6.0 too lol.
Now fill your net pots with as much hydroton as you will need in your system.
Take the pot of hydroton in one hand and with the other, cradle the clone in your palm so the roots are protected.
Sink the net pot in the bucket, and the hydroton will loosen and float slightly. Now slide the clone beneath the surface of the water, protecting the roots still, and orient it according to the rim of the pot.
Still supporting the clone, by the stem now, slowly lift the net pot with the clone and hydroton in it back out of the tub of water. You probably lost some hydroton but as long as the clone is as deep in the pot as yu wanted it, you can just place the pebbles back in there around it.
Now you're done! You may have to hand water for a few days while the roots get going, depending on your system type.

stinky's method is the way to do it, just remember, you need some roots there, not just a few skinny little tendrils

lol, from what i've seen since i started tracking this forum, she really knows her shit. she also spends a lot of time answering questions for newbies that she must have answered at least 1000 times before so she deserves the credit for patience if nothing else, even if she hasn't noticed me yet.

anyway, thanks for posting. btw, some pics would be nice. lol

I have been reading for months but I'm a newb at this. I dont know how to post pics

Also, how does the "quick reply" thing work?

not sure exactly on the 'quick reply' but adding pics to your messages is easy, after your done typing, scroll down until you see a button that says 'manage attachments', click on that and a dialogue box will pop up that will allow you to point to your pictures and when ready, to upload them. pretty simple, you probly just didn't scroll down far enough.
anyway, look forward to seeing some pics, btw, i'm starting a thread in the hydro section entitled 'newbie hydro\cfl experiment', with pics, lol, come take a look

1 new clones under small plywood shade with flourescents

2 new clones hiding under mom

3 Closer of ones under wood yes that is a Tomato (starting outdoor Vegatable crop also)
My setup is more for SOG...but i could only get one clone SSH lol

Not really premium for my space but I've heard great things.

I have grown in this setup for years outside with Veggies/lettuce etc...Worked alot of the bugs,leaks,etc.. out(there are plenty)
It is a homemade Aeroflo.

careful man, no need to rush. although i must say, your attention is much better than the lack of response from everyone else, almost everyone else anyway

i'm a stubborn cantankerous old so and so and i have a tendency to piss people off, i suffer from a form of turettes syndrome i think, they call it 'Oldtimers' disease. one of the most obvious symptoms is a belief that everyone has a right to MY opinion. LOL. of course i'm not so far gone that i believe everyone will agree with me!

You guys are fun.

1000's of Qs and I am actually starting to think I have carpal tunnel- my wrists and knuckles are starting to ache at odd moments.

I am wracking my brain trying to remember which poster built that thing- don't worry; it should not take very long.. kinda like the equivalent of a virus scan on a IBM 486 :D

I like the NFT style. It's my preferred hydro method too, except I go containerized and open to the air. Do you ever have issues with inconsistent water depth, with the round bottoms, rather than flat ones? Have you tried finding a 'tube' material that is square? There's a lovely DIY DWC shown on ICMag if it's still up, search for 'porch post NFT' and something should pop up. That guy used porch post coverings that are square in cross-section to have consistent water depth.

Nice tomatoes. Lucky you getting SSH too... it's on my wish list but no luck so far :(

I've read about the square posts,
I've also read aboout problems from round tube(never experianced it though)
That Mom has roots into the reservoir and a mat all along the bottom up to the drain..
I run it about 3/4 to 1/2 inch deep.Just have to turn up the psi a little when the untill roots reach the bottom in my experiance

Glad to have your stink of approval
