05-01-2008, 11:12 AM
So after a looooong time building my NANA cab I finally finished it on 4/20. Since then I have been doing minor adjustments and adding my girls in there little by little. Now I have a fully packed cab just waiting to flower.

With this being a new log but the same plants from my other log, Im not gonna go explaining about how I got here and what I did to my plants. Although I wont force you to read my other log, if you have any questions about it feel free to ask away.

Before I go any further, spark em up and enjoy the high

Lets begin.............................the NANA Cab...........................journey............. ...................
The NANA was originated by New Ganja Boy and originally named "NGB". I have taken the basic layout and altered it in certain areas to better suit my needs. I call it a "NANA" cab so if someone asks whats a nana?? I just say "NANA your business" LOL.

Cab dimensions
overall - 48" wide - 47" tall - 24" deep
utility - 15" wide - 17" tall - 24" deep
veg/mom - 15" wide - 30" tall - 24" deep (2.5 square feet)
flower - 33" wide - 47" tall - 24" deep (5.5 square feet)

Lighting specs
veg/mom - 6 x 26watt CFL 1700lumen 6700k = 156watt 10200lumen
flower - 2 x 150watt HPS 15000lumen 2500k? = 300watt 30000lumen

watts/lumen to area
veg/mom - 4080lumen per foot - 62.4watt per foot
flower - 5454.54lumen per foot - 54.54watt per foot

Hmmmmmmmm seems like I need to add some extra light to my flower side. [note to self add secondary cfls to flowers]

Exhaust
3 speed stanley blower
4" ducting

Passive intake
veg/mom - 6 x 1" holes screened(not pictured)
flower - 10 x 1" holes screened

ok I had enough typing for now, Ill add all the tidbits later.

ever think about replacing your 150's for 250's? little more lumens.

thanks justanotherbozo, Shovelhandle, keeko

keeko probably wont go up to 250hps but i will add more lumens with cfls or maybe see if I can get a 400 or 600 switchable from a friend.

more info......
heres some other info some may find useful. This is an all soil grow using pots starting from dixie cups and 16oz. soda bottles then to 1 gallon pots then finally to 3 gallons to finish off. Eventually I plan to flower in 1 gallons instead of 3, and do a perpetual grow.

My soil is from the homedepot and its usually whatevers available that suites my preferences. I add 1-1 parts of "foam rock" mix it up in my bin, and thats all. I dont add any bone/blood meal, lime, or anything extra. I forget what brand I bought but it was a "premium potting soil" in a brown bag. (Ill post the brand/pics later)

STRAINS
Lets get into the flavors now. Currently I have 5 strains growing but will bring it down to 2 after the second flowering. All were started from seed with all sorts of germination techniques. I did some in paper towels and some soaked in water, then planted in either rockwool or a peat pellet. I found that I had best results when I soaked them in distilled water til they split open and TAP root shows a lil. Then put it in a paper towel for a day or 2 til the root is stronger and longer, then plant into rockwool/soil.

Most seeds were bagseed except the HB which is Hashberry . The others include a strain I grew that had a couple "nanners" that I used to make 6 seeds, named Hgs or Home grown seed. Next I tried some really old seeds I had from about 7-8 years ago, named Obs for Old bagseed. The last 2 was some great smoke and had a couple seeds. First is the GVxL which stands for Grapevine X Lavender, and finally the KM sisters. The KM stands for KALIMIST (yummy sativa) and I have 3 of them. KM1 is the oldest and got topped at the 7th node, KM2,3 are a week or 2 younger and didnt get topped. All girls are under LST to keep heights down.

CLONES
Hmmmmm lets just say I have to many right now. I took cuttings from every plant except the GVxL. Ten cuttings have rooted well and were transplanted into dixie cups and are vegging. I then have another 9 I cut the other week that are rooted but I dont have much space left so I need to cull some of the bad ones :(. Ill get into my cloning method in another post for the readers. Oh yeah I orginally had a bubble cloner that only rooted "ONE" cutting after over a month so I tossed it and the cuttings. The one that did root is a KM1 clone in my DWC bucket with a sister clone done in rockwool.

guess what.......................................Im tired of typing check back later

Heres my soil mix in pic 1. I mix half at a time since my bin isnt big enough for the whole load at once. The other pics are of KM1.

Picked up a new fan for the cab. Its a lasko tower fan, fits and works perfect in there. It has multi direction halves and oscillates with 3 speed settings. Got it at wallyworld for 20 bucks. Ill post pics of it later.

time to play some GTA IV

i like your set-up man, i'll be watching your posts and i look forward to seeing what your results end up at.
eventually, i plan on building a cab of my own but, for now, i'm in the closet, lol. so to speak.
anyway, if you're interested, i plan on starting a thread today documenting my own little experiment. the thread will be called 'newbie hydro\cfl experiment' , if you stop by and take a look you'll see that everything is DIY, i live on a very tight budget.
anyway, thanks for sharing your notes, your efforts are inspiring to a newbie like me

heres some pics of day 11. I put 3 clones in there too so I would have more space in the veg side. The HB got a lil burned on one of its leaves so I raised my cooltube enough to not burn anything. So far Im really pleased with the growth on the girls, especially with all the trimming and LST I did in the last week. KM1 is really looking good, I trimmed all lower branches so I have 5 main tops(pic 5).

Im still feeding with veg nutes and will start using bloom nutes next week. The next watering will be a flush to rinse the roots off and prep them for the bloom nutrients. I use FoxFarms Grow BIG during veg and Tiger Bloom during flowering with molasses later on in flowering.

I was also thinking about hardening off some of my clones and do an outdoor grow. But thats just me thinking out loud. The last time I did and outdoor I ended up with a 6" runt that turned out male :(. So if I do actually try again outdoors again Im gonna prep the area first.

Hey, m8....the plants look nice, can't wait to see them flowering....it's worth to try an outdoor grow, imo it's far less work than whit indoor plants....it's very simple; you just have to prep. the soil nicely, and choose a nice sunny spot....that's it, only thing left is to water the plant every week if you can, whit nutes....you should try it, to transplant 1-2 plants isn't that much work....keep it up....

iriebowl
05-09-2008, 11:05 PM
zeb,
Hmmmmm since your making it sound so very tempting, Im gonna go scout out a place today and maybe do a lil preping if I find a spot. Hopefully if I do go outdoors the weather will get a lil better and stay consistent.

on a side note
How do I keep my DWC bucket cool enough to prevent rootrot??? Its 74-78 degrees which is to warm I know. Would icepacks help out keeping it cooler or would some sort of insulation on the bucket be better?? Any help help is appreciated

Heres my future moms. Hashberry and Kalimist are the only strains I plan on keeping, unless the others are really good. I have 1 HB mom and 2 KM moms. The only bad part is the Hashberry tends to stretch alot more than the others. I wouldnt mind crossing my HB and KM if I can manage to get a male seed sprouted for them.

very nice, i love lookin' at pitures of nekid gurls! LOL i hope to have some pics of my own to share with you in a couple of weeks, maybe 3.
oh, and btw, you might want to put some electrical tape over that wire nut. wire nuts are great for securing wire together but the wires are still exposed to the open air, so if your open air is humid, that humidity will collect on every surface in the room, including your exposed wire inside that wire nut.

anyway, thanks for sharing your progress man!

Just finished watering the ladies and found out that my HGS is a hermie. No shocker though as the mom hemied and thats how I got the seeds. I ended up just putting her outside for now and will deal with her later. I only found 2-3 nanners growing but that was enough for me, I dont wanna chance pollinating all my other girls. I actually find that to be good news though since I have a space issue arising and now that I only have 4 in flower they should all get more light which in turn means bigger bud(usually). The 4 are really starting to size up and produce trichomes. Smell is still green but will start stinking now that the trichs are here. Time to build me a carbon scrubber.

My DWC is starting to grow better finally, but still not up to par with my soil grows. I may end up hacking them into cuttings when I need them. I also hooked a friend up with 2 clones so I have a lil more space in veg too. I helped this friend build a micro box a mere foot wide and deep by about a foot half tall. Surprisingly it actually produced some bonsai buds, only to end up with pH issues and biting the dust. This time he will succeed though, I guarantee it .

No pics this time but wait til sunday for the 3 week update

thanks zeb I knew you would chime in, and thanks for the push to go outdoors this time. I was planning on using clones outside like you said, but I majorly needed room and she had a couple "footballs" growing. So I picked off the footballs and transplanted outside, and here she is a few day later. I have a couple seeds left in case revegging fails, and maybe one more clone I think. Hopefully those seeds carry the "pink hair" trait and its not lost with this girl.

I finally got all the needed parts to build me a scrubber. At first I had it 2 feet long but that turned out to big so I made another at a foot long. Parts cost me under $50, would've been less but my homedepot doesnt carry much ventilation stuff. They didnt have any 4" starter collars or end caps so I had to "macguyver" a 3" PVC endcap and a 4" dryerduct to make things work. All thats left to do is get some activated carbon and fill it up. Really easy to build just takes some time to get it all together and fitting properly. I was gonna make a small tutorial to build one, but I dont get enough traffic here so maybe I will maybe I wont depends if anyone needs help with building one. more pics later

Glad the sites back up and running

yeah, i'm glad the site is back too and i know what you mean about traffic. believe me, people are lookin', lol

anyway, awesome job on the scrubber, much cleaner lookin' than the one i made, similar in principle though.
i don't know if you've considered this but i'm sure it would work for you, if you try it, Lowes (i'm sure HomeDepot too) has some velcro sinch straps that work beautifully to hold the carbon sheet in place.
if you need more info, let me know man
and yeah, if you can't see it on the box, it's a sheet of activated carbon measuring 16.5 inchs by 48 inchs, you just cut it to size (i get 2 wraps from it) and it costs approx.$10.00, find it near the Hepa filters, humidifiers and de-humidifiers etc...

iriebowl, I agree with the comments made earlier, in that this thread is certainly not getting the attention it deserves. I was just reviewing thread titles, and while I am not quite versed enough in indoor growing, I saw your cab notation, and decided I might learn a bit for future use. Your cab is too advanced for me to fashion anything similar, but I appreciate all of the attention to detail; and, your scrubber is incredible, dude! It looks like you could make those for a living, man!

Now that I see you have a plant out of doors, I have become even more interested in following your log. I have much to learn, and I have found where I can learn much - from your thread. Don't worry about the lack of traffic - I know how you feel. It is nice to receive the applause, but in the end, it is much nicer puffing on the results of your hard work. I'm looking forward to following your log, my friend. Thanks for keeping it going!

Im glad everyone is enjoying and getting a bit of info from my log. Though I admit it isnt info packed like some other logs, but I will answer any question regarding my grow or techniques if you have any.

Sorry no pics this weekend but heres an update.
nana cab- all girls are fattening up and putting on the weight now . Today will be the first molasses feed of 1tbsp. per gallon. I hope these girls like molasses like the outdoor girl does :D.

outdoor girl- Besides the bugs that are messing up a few leaves and the grass seed that is on some of the buds, its aaaaall good. Buds are getting bigger and trichomes are in production. Fed her a bucket today since its SUPER hot and has been for the last couple days.

DWC- I decided to stop growing hydro since I have my hands full with the cab. It was a real humbug trying to maintain a cool res temp during the summer. I may start it up in fall/winter to see if its any better. I ended up chopping up the KM1 clones I had in there. Made 7 cuttings but dumped 3 just because. I already transplanted 3 clones that rooted in 7 days, the rest are about ready to transplant.

Thats it for now

wow, looking beautiful iriebowl. I'm envious of your cabinet, I just may reclaim mine some day, but if I do I'll do it right (odor and light leaks inevitably gave mine away).

it's also great to hear that you're feeding the outdoor girl molasses, as she is obviously responding well to it (I've been thinking of trying it myself).

overall great work you're doing, you definately will be having a promising harvest, with some nice strains. :smokin:

thanks cthulhu This will be my biggest harvest to date so Im really excited. I wanna order some bubble bags too so I can make some hash, since last time it didnt come out so great with coffee filters.

So we've been having some rainy weather lately and when I went to check my outdoor I found a branch was totally bent over and laying in a bit of mud. I didnt have any more stakes to tie up the branch so I just cut it for a sample. It was a lil "dirty" but I cleaned it up real good. Trimmed it up and had to fan dry it due to the rain soaking it. After about 10 minutes it was dry enough to go in the closet. Gonna be checking it daily for any signs of mold just in case . Its got some really fat calyx's too almost like its seeded but its not. Has a sweet candy smell thats not really strong unless you squeeze a nug. Looks like it should be a good sampler.

carbon scrubber update*
I ordered some carbon off ebay and it was a great price. 25 lbs. for $45 plus free shipping, and to top it off it arrived in a mere 3 days. I ended up using around 4-5 pounds for my scrubber with decent odor removal, might opt out and make a 2 footer if the odor lingers.

Still looking wonderful, iriebowl.
I've had a little stink problem although the bubblegum is not a very stinky strain. I'm off today to buy a bathroom exhaust fan that I can duct to an unused gas water heater vent that goes outdoors (no neighbors). I think it will help a lot for drying and when I grow the next time with AK-47, a real stinker, I've been told.

WOW IM REALLY SORRY TO HEAR ABOUT YOUR PROBLEMS ON THE HOME FRONT...

Great looking Plant's you have there....

Plant's look great I browsed the thread and I seen Miracle Grow Soil.

I did not see a NUTES schedule. That's great if your only using Miracle Grow products. I'm in the process now of setting up a 4x12 Indoor bed myself. I'm looking for a good soil mix and I was reading up on Pro Mix. I found this now I'm definetly not using Pro Mix..

Take a small handful of Pro Mix and put it in a beer cup and fill the cup almost to the top with water. Stick a PPM pen in the cup and let it sit over night. The PPM will be somewhere around 1100 PPM. That is way to much for clones. I find that they will burn and be very slow to take off. Every time I have told someone this that use Pro Mix they have come back to me and told me that I have solved a lot of problems for them.

Almost every person I have talk to have had problems with the HP. I told them about the PPM and they too told me I have solved so many problems for them. For the PPM in the Sunshine Mix #4 I'm not sure but i think its about 300-400 PPM.

NO HEADACHES W/ MIRACLE GROW?

Hey sorry to take away from your GROW @ all looks GREAT:thumbsup::thumbsup:

The whole Miracle Grow has me thinking:thumbsup::thumbsup:

Thanks GL420:jointsmile::jointsmile::jointsmile:

This grow I didnt use miracle grow soil, but tried out "SUPER SOIL". I added foam rok at 1-1 ratio to get a nice draining soil. No extra amendments like bone/blood meal, lime. Really happy with this mix so Ill be sticking with it from now on. On my other grows with miracle grow soil I had good results using the organic mix and mixing in foam rok for better drainage. I get my super soil at home depot for $5 a bag, doubt they have foam rok since its a local product but perlite/vermiculite will work the same. Any soil should be good as long as it drains quicly but holds a decent amount of water. Oh yeah after mixing my soil Ill add some 6.6 pH water mix throughlly then let it "COOK" for a week before usage. By cook I mean let it sit and breakdown to help pH levels stabilize. Always pH before adding plants in case the mix is off.

I dont have a nute schedule but use the FoxFarms line. Grow Big during veg and Tiger Bloom during flower. I tried MG ferts but didnt like the results it gave so I went organic as much as possible. I find it gives a nicer taste and less chance for nute burns. You might pay more but its worth it in the end.

thanks for stopping in and hope this helps you soil grow

Ill start off the update with the outdoor girl.
Over the last week she has plumped up and smells more sweet. She still has those slight pinkish hairs which is sooo cool to actually see in my garden as compared to a magazine or internet. Not really producing much sugar but nice solid nugs are forming.

she gets all day sun, towards the end of the day the back gets a bit of shade but not much. Right now shes getting 12-13 hours of direct sun. The days are pretty hot and nights are nice and cool so I think thats what made the pistils turn pinkish. Im not sure but it looks like its starting to reveg or at least growing some long leaves at the top of the buds.

I have no idea about the amount of sunlight needed but Im sure 11-14 should be good to flower.
check this out to get sun times for your area.

ok my time has run out quicky. My cab is now shut down til further notice. I have piggies downstairs as I type so I guess its a test of the carbon scrubber and its odor control.

Thankyou everyone for stopping by and checking out my log. This isnt the end of me just time to hibernate till the time is good again.

yup im home for the time being. Had to harvest all my girls early and move the moms and clones off the property, if they dont live Im gonna grow out the hindu kush on my future grow.

Damn...........growing and smoking is so easy but harvesting can be such a pain. I need to get some spring loaded trimmers next time I harvest. My right hand is all sore from trimming all day by myself. Im hoping to get around a QP in the end but its most likey less.

yup they were cops, or actually cop. and he was a decent cop too which is amazing. Not my first encounter either but I wasnt growing as much then to raise suspicion. Over the last year and a half I had fire/ambulance/police over at least 6 times. All went smoothly without a hitch, "knock on wood".

Now to be patient and wait for the drying process.

I had 6 big plants and 60 more seedlings that all popped and my Girlfriend called the fire department a few weeks ago. Pulled up there 3 fire engines and 2 Police cars. Thought it was a raid. I had balls thought I ran in the house. Then I moved everything out to the W/H and the fire dept was there on Friday. I Think about the worst and hope for the best. Thats my new modow..

Good Luck

Give Em time to dry.... LOL

iriebowl, I'm sorry to hear your grows were interrupted, but it appears you have a decent stash to tide you over until you have your situation tied down a bit better. Those buds are mighty fine lookin'! You did an incredible job on your grow!

I appreciate you sharing your soil information, as I have just been using MG soil. I've had some burn issues, and some spotting issues. My plant seems to have been stunted and began flowering super early - I didn't believe the seed to be Lowryder with the autoflower, but such would explain the short stature and autoflower. But, I still attribute part of the problem to the MG soil, so I will shy away from it on future grows. Thanks for the recommendation of the "Super Soil."

Be good out there!

LOL Im never leaving, my roots are to deep to leave anyway. As a second gen grower I have absolutely no plans of stopping, as you said its in my blood. Im just glad I gained the knowledge to grow they way I do. In under a year I went from a noob to a fairly decent grower (I think?!)

Now with my 3rd actual harvest done and in the books I credit this site and members for all the info provided, without it I would still be a noob trying to grow.

For the time being I will be trying to write up some tutorials or DIYs. I was thinking of a carbon scrubber, clones, moms, cooltube, maybe some others if my brain remembers them. If anyone has a specific tutorial/DIY they would like let me know and Ill see what I can do.

ok so heres the outdoor girl report
she had a total weight of 18.5g minus a couple nugs as a sampler. I tared(zeroed out) the scale in case you were wondering ;). Taste is ok, no green taste, a lil sweet but its faint. Nice smooth hits from the ZONG (my sis got all blazed off 1 hit), pipe was ok but not as tasty(dirty pipe), gonna roll a cone later to see if its good on the paper.

So far Im fairly pleased with this batch even though it only came in at 18.5g, would have been nice to let it fully ripen to get double the weight but ohh wells.

heres kalimist 1,2,3 and hashberry all curing.
first pic is hashberry in 2 jars along with the outdoor girl in a jar and kalimist in the bag. Gonna wait a couple days til I scale out the KM and HB. I was thinking the kalimist was gonna yield a lil more but it was only halfway through flower before the premature harvest :(.

pics 2,3,4 are of a hashberry bud, nothing special just grabbed the one on top.
