Hi, I germinated my seeds overnight & planted them 1/4 inch tip facing down into the soil, I did this 3 days ago. One of the seeds has pushed itself to the top & the seed is still there with a green thing inside... is this normal?
I also noticed that my soil is drying up every 3 hours, I have a 250W HPS light & its 3 foot away from the plants. How much should I be watering?
Also my ballast is extremely hot (cant touch it) is this normal?

Any ideas & help would be appreciated.
Thanks Dude0

it sounds like the hps is too close to the plants I use Compact Fluorescent in a silver shop light till they are 2 to 4 in high then use the hps or I have also done is to use
Fluorescent till time to flower then swich to hps doing this I get more buds depenting on what kind iam growing "big bud works great this way" there is also Fluorescent work lights that I have used and works great I have even been able to do a whole grow with it but useing hps for flowing is even better
hope this helps

Thanks for replying!
Well earlier I moved my light closer & switched the fan on & within a few hours the seed dropped off the root & the plant is like 1/6 inch high.
My only worry is the ballast, its getting extremely hot, I understand that it constantly producing power & it will get hot.... but how do you define HOT?

pot me up,
you use a work light? i have a 500 watt halogen light, is that anything close to what you use.
it would seem like it would get too hot and use up too much electricity. ??

Howdy dude0,
Yup..the ballast will git hot as heck, your job is to git rid of the heat. As for your soil drying up,you should git a moisture meter,to make sure the soil is dry enough to water. Also,do you have a temp and humidity gauge ? Keep the fan running and put your hand just above the plant-if you can't keep it there long-then the light is too close. Also, when you water the plants, make sure you do it long enough for the water to run out the bottom, then git rid of the excess..that way,the soil will be moistened properly, from top to bottom, and the roots will grow down to the bottom of the pot. By the same oken, you should let the soil dry out enough between waterings,so that the pot is light enough to pick up with one hand,easily..weed needs oxygen to git to it's roots,by letting the soil dry between waterings, they git what they need.
Have a good one !

Hi, well I woke up this morning & 3 of my plants were 1 1/2 inch skinny stems, im kinda chuffed, they have 2 like round leaves & 2 cannabis shaped leafs, very tiny though.
I'm using 18/6 at the moment is this ok?
Also how long can they survive without water? ... sometimes I can't be around all the time.
Thanks Dude0
I forgot to add... no its a 250W HPS light, I bought it from a hydroponic shop.

ya use floros if you can because you can keep it closer which will keep plant short looks like there tryin to stretch so move to floros right now and put them right on the plant like 2 inches from the top matbe even a inch

Sorry I haven't got fluros, can this been done with the HPS light?
I kinda spent all my money on the stuff I got & I don't think I can spend anymore.
Currently the light is about 12 inches away from the plant, Im watering 3 times a day or when the leafs are facing down. 18 on & 6 off. 1 extracting fan on constantely.
No nutrients.

if an hps is all you have.. and you can't get it to close or the leaves will burn. when you transplant the seedlings, bury the stem right up to the first set of round leaves... this'll make your stem a hell of alot stronger, and developes feeder roots.

p.s you shouldn't be watering 3 times a day, you'll drown them

ok thanks, when i say 3 times a day... thats a few drops of water, probably 3-4 drops each watering. Is there anyway to keep the plant short ? As I am limited to height space, probably about 4ft inc hps light.
Many thanks for the replies aswell!
