my buddy has a self enclosed 250mh that hums insanely loud....does anyone have anything that is as quiet as a regular house light??
What about heat off a 150?? looking to put it in a 48"Hx20"Wx30"L cab.
Do they make external ballasts for 150's??
THanks

If you want a near-silent HID, you're gonna have to go digi.
Also, a loud mag ballast often indicates a problem, such as something rubbing against the inside of the housing.

It doesn't have to be completely silent....I'm just looking for something to use in my first ever cab grow.
What would you recommend??.....I've been reading for weeks now trying to get a design together....I built a rubbermaid setup but feel that sound and heat are both an issue with my buddy's loud and hot self-enclosed 250mh.....plus the fact that I feel its already a pain in the ass to deal with stacking them and I don't even have anything going in there besides for the light.
How do all the cool-tubes I see everywhere work?? I picked up some ducting and a 4" inline duct fan....hoping to cool-tube to a carbon-scrubber if that's possible?
SHould I just ditch the 250mh and try to make one of these cool-tube things?? Is there a good tutorial you can recommend?? The bulb in the 250mh is an AgroSun which is supposedly better than a plain ole MH.....anyway I could save it and use it in a cool tube design??
Sorry for all the questions.....I'm a n00b
Thanks again

First off, if you want to run a carbon filter, you will want a stronger exhaust for that.
You can run an air-cooled light in 2 basic configurations:
-Open to the inside of the box, with the light in line with the general room exhaust
-On its own duct run with its own intake, completely isolated from the air in the box (necessary for CO2 injected rooms).
If you aren't doing sealed room, and still want to isolate your light ducting, you will need a second exhaust to refresh the air in the box. That is the exhaust to which you will add your carbon scrubber.
If you want to run only one exhaust, with the light and fan in line, you go: Open end, Light, duct, Blower, Scrubber, Out. With limited space, I'd put the blower and the filter both outside the box. Inline fanst work best when they are PULLING air.
