i grow organicaly indoors in compost so space is at a premium,is there a way to slow a mothers growth rate while keeping her healthy.i usually just top them and slow the repotting down but i suffer from stretching and would like more lateral(?)growth(instead of height i want width)it would be nice to keep a mother at a foot or so high for a month or two.any help would be appreciated!

Bump
Giving this thread a bump and am curious as to slowing growth without harming plants.
In my friends case a reveged re-potted plant, and some smaller clones. the flower chamber is currently being used for the clones mommas in a SCROG grow. and they wont be done till mid march.
So is there a good way to slow veg growth?

My moms get moved between a high intensity and a low intensity light environment based on how fast I need them to grow. When I don't need them to grow any bigger I keep them under a mix of LEDs and CFLs, and when I am going to need long branches for cuttings I move them under a big metal halide bulb for a while.
Don't be too scared to trim them down to size either - just don't take too much off at once and shock the plant. Cannabis is a hearty plant and they can usually recover from a pretty savage trimming as long as you leave them with enough fan leaves. Also, bending and tying branches down can keep a plant low and wide.
