Hey!

Last time I grew I put the germinated seedling directly into Biobizz All-Mix, but they didnt like that and died - since the mix comes with 1L of ferts mixed into the 20L bag. I am now about to plant again, but now have some "Sphagnum moss + perlite mix" to pop the seed into (only growing one at the mo since its a small space). The thing is, I only have a little of this moss mix, enough for a small pot, but it will have to grow in that until its mature enough to be put into the Biobiz All-Mix. So, my question is: how long do you recommend the plant should grow before its put in the all-mix? Also, since I only have a little of that moss mix for the seedling, do you think it would be ok to get a bigger container, half fill that with all mix, then put moss mix ontop of that- this way I could let the plant get a little bigger (since the pot would be bigger), before transplanting it into the big, pure all-mix pot?

(Buying more soil isnt practical, I would have to get it delivered and it would be a 20kb bag min, and also shipping for that is not worth it.)

I was also thinking about soaking the all mix in hot water and flushing it over and over before I put it into the pot- this way at least some of the nutes that are already in it would hopefully get washed away.

Thanks!

Sidenote: I broke my 200w Envirolite last night while getting the growing space ready so had to order another one :( , but the broken one still works!- even though it has a hole in it!, but it makes funny sounds. Anyone ever used a bulb with a hole in it?? I was very surprised when I switched it on and it still worked, since I thought that CFL's needed a vacuum/ special gas in the bulb to work?!

dont use the bulb throw it out. most cfls have mercury in them(to my knowledge)

the seedling mix(peat/perlite)is good for starting seedlings. you only need a tiny pot that holds about half handful of dirt to start seeds

dont flush the soil you bought it would make it worthless. or atleast compared to what you bought.

go to local stores and get soil mixes. soil, compost, manures, humus, all that stuff should be available to you within afew miles at the local walmart or nursery or hd/lowes/hardware store

dont give seedlings any nutes until they get atleast 3-5 true sets of serrated leaves

I emailed envirolite and asked them if its safe, they said I should throw it out, but I should be ok unless I got lots of "white powder" on me that was inside the bulb- I didnt, so I should be ok. Gutted about throwing it away though, it has had about 15 min of use!

I live right in the center and there are no shops here that would sell soil- Id have to get two busses to get there today (since the seed is ready to plant)- and Iv got other things to do today so I cant be bothered.

I wouldnt mind flushing out some of the goodness if it would also get rid of the extra nutes- it would only be until the 3rd ish set (like you said), and then I would put it in the huge pot with new all-mix and that would give it all the goodness it needs to grow in veg state.

Heres the plan:

The all-mix in at the bottom of the pot can be slightly flushed/washed with water before I put it into the pot to clean out some nutes.

About to plant it now using the above plan (the tap root is a few mm long now so its time). One thing I have never been sure about: after planting, do I put it under the light right away, or do I leave it in a dark place until the seed pops out from the surface? (In previous grows I have put it under a light right away- seemed to work fine). Also, what is the best depth to put the seed under?- just under an inch or so, right?
