I like to keep seedlings 1- 2" from a T5 fixture. It runs hotter than a T12 and can burn the seedlings if too close, so check daily and raise if necessary.
They are ready for a bigger lamp IMHO when you repot them the first time into ~pint sized pots and they have a healthy root ball.

seedlings dont need much more than 15-20 watts of light

when you switch over to the 1000 i would keep it atleast 1.5'-2' away from the tops to keep from burning them seedlings. are you on an aircooled light?

with a 1000-watter, I would maintain 18"-30" distance :smokin:

The distance for your 1000 is dependent on the type of hood you use. If air cooled 18 to
24" is good. If not air cooled you'll have to raise it a little higher.
