There is a male that is 3 weeks into flowering. He is a new purple power sativa. For some reason I missed him until tonight. When I removed him powder was coming from him. (no pun intended)
Is this considered contamination, or was the male removed before the polin became potent?

Man, what is it with all these snide responses lately? This kind of bullshit answer doesn't help anyone...

Drizz: The male has almost certainly pollinated the females. How much pollination occurred is impossible to say. If it's just your own personal stash, then you'll probably have anywhere from a few to a lot of seeds of the strain you're growing. A lot of seeds will certainly affect yield to some extent, but the buds should still live up to its reputation for potency... or close to it. On top of that, there'll be no need to buy seeds again for a while. And when you're buying high dollar seeds from quality strains, this is a blessing.

If this is the case, you can plant a bunch of seeds, and find a truly special mother to take clones from. There ya go. Problem solved, and with no need for me to act like an asshole. Clean up the growing area thoroughly after the harvest, and next time be sure to be more careful about rogue males in the flowering room. Take care.

Would love to see and hear your reasoning behind this moronic, unsubstantiated statement, that was made without context. As far as starting-off on the right foot in here...you're "fucked". (oh yeah...welcome to CanCom...)

drizzts:
Since the pollen was visibly released, there will be consequences. One of those being yeild, the other being seeds. If you can swing it, leave the pollinated plant(s) in flower for another 6-8 weeks, to let the seeds mature. If you do not let them mature, you will have inviable (dead) seeds that are a bitch to clean, and will still 'pop' in the pipe.

Next time you have an 'uncontrolled release', turn-off fans, remove the male, and gently spray all the ladies' pistols with ph'd water. Water kills pollen upon contact. It won't eliminate the possibility of seeds, but will help to lessen the effects of the release.

(1) Your writing skills need improvement. You comment should have read ...

"You're f*cked! That's why you don't grow seeds, you grow clones."

Using grossly improper English makes you appear uneducated and less than intelligent.

(2) Your attitude could use improvement! This is now a medical site! As such, there is a certain level of politeness expected. Unwarranted, immature rudeness is frowned upon.

(3) Have you ever heard of genetic diversity? By recombining genes, organisms are able to improve their survivability through natural selection. Humans go Mother Nature one better, by selectively breeding organisms to accentuate traits that are desirable.

If his plants are of a good quality, the seeds will (mostly) be of good quality, with a few outstanding ones! He MAY have just bred the next "Haze" or "White Widow". Clones are just carbon copies of their mothers. Never anything new from a clone! Thats why we have seed growers- to give you "clones only" guys your new "killer clones"!

Drizzts- You know that big wire mesh strainer you have in the kitchen? Excellent for de-seeding bud. The seeds remain in the strainer, nicely flaked bud falls onto a plate. Hippies did it for years- sinsemilla was rare back then!

And like Mr C said- you just got all the seeds you can use and give away for a while. And since it was a normal male, the seeds will not be hermie prone. Make the best of it!

Thanks for the info. I'm learning alot from this site thanks to you all.

I have 5 New Purple power minus 1 male and 2 durbin poisin that have been pollinated. So lesson learned. It will be weird for me to deal with seeds from my plants. I've cloned these girls from seeds and somehow a male got threw the process. The original moms are up in smoke, heheheheehhe. Funny thing is , the male was plant labeled #13.

As for the plants being pollinated, does this change the flowering time?

And rub it around. Don't be afraid to use a little force- seeds are round and don't crush easily. It's not hard to do! Dry bud works best (you can add a couple drops of water to the flakes to rehydrate them later in the baggie). If you have 2 big strainers, use the one with the bigger mesh for joints. Tiny tea strainers will give you powder that makes runny joints :(, but is great in a vape.- Granny:hippy:
