Hi All
I have been doing research here on lighting and on the sticky el cheapo guide to lighting I went to the ebay site that was recommended and I found this light . 12" wide x 12" long x 1 1/4", 225 LED PANEL with MIXED Blue/Red Spectrum. Has anyone had any experience with this? thanks for any feed back..

well from what i heard. they dont work well. there just small 5mm leds not much light output. look into somthing like the Procyon 100 or build your own is your best bet for led lights right now.

Quick question do you think the procryon is really worth 600 bucks

Fishens,
Don't buy those, not worth it at all. If you would like to play around with 5mmLED, go to HomeGrownLights.com where they have a d-i-y 14watt kit for like $40. (HGL same guy who designed Procyon 100)
They work, they will grow (not a 4' plant). I use 16 panels in a 2'x8' shelf. I transplant under them and veg them 6" to 12" (depending on species). 224watts LED vs. 420 watts fluro I used to use. Saved 196watts. Same growth rates.
Hey Trainwreck024;
You're right that they are "just small 5mm LEDs not much light output". The cheap panels miss the right light wavelengths for growth and don't have much output. BUT the correct WL hi-brightness 5mm LEDs do work and have applications for growing.

mushaboom;
I have two Procyon 100's, that I use in my mother room. I replaced 2-400watt MH covering about 4'x6'. I did not do a direct swap, but instead put them side by side, with a 6" fan facing down between them, and mounted them on a light bar. It appears to have the same growth times, as I have had for over four months now, and the moms have stayed right on schedule.

YES
In the mom room I went from 818watts (2-400w bulbs + ballast)
To 250watts (each Procyon uses abt 125w for 100w light output)
Saved over 560watts. Not sure how much electric costs by you, but figure 560watts X 18 hours X how much you pay per watt.
Do the math....they will pay for themselves.

i purchased 1 of the quad band LED 14w 225 5mm LED. They screwed up my order and sent a used one. believe it or not, to fix my order, they acctually sent me 2 for the price of 1. ($34)
i was stoked... threw some clones under it, and they grew. slowly, but very very rich lush green.
curiosity took over because light output was very low...i put a 23w (actual) cfl in the very small chamber, and could no longer see the purple glow..
basically, the 23 watts of cfl were able to blend back the light (to white) in the box (about 12ft cubic) i added a huge 500w CFL in the room, and its nearly impossible to see any of the 4 colors of the light, even on the plants that literally touch the bulbs. that should mean something right?
bottom line, a $20 cfl is MUCH MUCH MUCH stronger than 2 $35 225led panels.
This would be a great product for someone that wants an interior shade tropical (pothos, anthurium, etc) but doesnt have a sunny window. Try to grow something that you are literally holding your breath for another inch of growth, and you will quickly realize CFL is much -much cheaper.
i still believe that building a led grow light would produce amazing effects, but i just couldnt seem to find the best supply of bulk LEDs.
my LED's were a newbie tax... if they were a local shop, i would have returned them and purchased a quality CFL.
im pretty sure all the HID guys would say the exact same thing about CFL :rastasmoke:
