No, those of you in the midwest are not freaking out (if you were up). That was a 5.4 magnitude earthquake in south east Illinois (Olney) at 4:37 AM.

And for those of you in California, yes it was nothing big, but for us in the midwest, we're not used to this.....

There was some minor damage as far as 150 miles away....

Did anyone else feel this?

not in md, infact ive never felt an earthquake that i can remember, even though there are reports of some that have happened in my time on this earth on the eastcoast, which is mostly rocky so the earthquakes affect a much larger area for a smaller quake.

May I warn you about aftershocks? Earthquakes can come in clusters. The initial shock is often followed by a (usually smaller) after shock that occurs anywhere from a few minutes to a week or two later. So don't be too surprised if there is a second quake in the next few days.

Yep, I bet that's really cheered them up. LOL.
I'm just glad we don't get that sort of thing over here.

Cheers

I've never felt an Earthquake in my life. Just gone to school a couple times with everybody saying "OMG! I couldn't believe that Earthquake last night!" feel like I've missed out on something too, I'm curious to experience one.

I wonder how many tornadoes I've slept through...

I wonder how many tornadoes I've slept through...

LOL, that's funny because I've slept through some rather inclement weather before.

Several years back, when hurricane Opal tore through the southeast, I slept right through it. I remember vividly: I was in high school, and it happened on a school day. I remember waking up to the sound of chainsaws and big trucks zooming through my neighborhood. I looked outside and saw a tree that split a neighbors house nearly in two. I rolled out of bed at about 11AM, and found my parents in the backyard clearing debris. I asked what in the hell just happened, and they explained it to me. Then went on about how they had no idea how a person could sleep through such turbulent weather. I remember them saying how they thought were were all going to have to adjourn into the cellar, and how they were certain the roof was going to blow right off the house.

I was oblivious to it all, and just happy to get out of going to school that day. Still, I was pretty proud of honestly being able to claim that I could sleep through a hurricane. Don't know why. Now that I have a child, I'll find myself waking up every time he so much as farts in the middle of the night!

I didn't feel it or hear about it for that matter.

Probably slept through it.

Heres a cool site that tracks earthquakes. Since I live in CA I like to know where the earthquakes are. Its kinda funny to see one in Illinois. I don't think I've seen that before.:wtf:

Yesterday there was an earthquake here in Brasil... It is a VERY unusual thing here. Its magnitude was 5.2, and it was felt in several cities, being the strongest earthquake in the last 100+ years here... i didnt feel anything, only heard about it in the news... but it was felt in several regions of my town.
Earthquakes here in Brasil... damn... the worlds end is near indeed...

It's all a vast right wing neo con conspiracy and Bush's fault, and it's all because of global warming, and big oil, and polar bears floating around on ice life rafts. I wouldn't get off the can for a 5.2.:D
I am sure you have tons more to worry about than earthquakes in all reality.
