As a parent, I find this extremely disturbing. Are kids so desensitized to violence these days that they think this is entertainment!? The poor girl wasn't even fighting back. It doesn't matter what she said about who, this is disgusting! Pure trash mentality. And this is are our next generation?! Wow!

What those girls did to the one trying to get out of the house is absolutely deplorable. My sister-in-law is that age, and she's told me some stories of how vicious her classmates could be. I figured she was embellishing things, but I guess I was wrong.
I hope all of the girls who participated in making this video get as harsh of a penalty as the law will allow. I know how the juvenile court system works, so I doubt they'll get much more than a slap on the wrist, but still, senseless violence coming from wild teenagers just for the sake of being violent needs to be addressed. Making a stern example of these girls would be a good start.

That's a ridiculous statement, no matter how good you are at defending yourself there comes a point when pure force of numbers gives an advantage to the attackers.
The punishment for this kind of thing should be a taste of thier own medicine .

Wow.. shut up. If you were a girl and attacked by 8 people, you would do better? Man think before you post. I'm assuming you're a grown man; what would you do when 8 other grown men starting beating you up for 30 minutes? I'm sure your parents wouldn't recognize you either (if you even stayed alive) just like her parents couldn't recognize her. She lost her sight and hearing man, and that's all you have to say?

Yeah this is fucked up stuff. Too many kids today have almost no respect for anything accept themselves (id wager not much of that either). These little cunts need to be tried as adults and the guys who helped by standing watch need to be tried the same and then jumped themselves (i happily voulenteer). So is there no hope for the future anymore? Are we just going to have a whole society of assholes by the time im an old man? The older i get the more i understand those crotchety old people who shake their fist and yell: "Damn Kids!" These girls needed to resolve their differences with a smoke off instead.

It's so easy to talk the talk but when it comes down to it like my old sensei used to say , "if you don't see it coming it's a lot harder to stop"!
I've been in fights where people are coming at you from all directions and you have to be able to take the hits as well as deal them out.
With odds of 3 to 1 you can take most people out , it's simply a case of targetting the legs of the person to take them down to the ground.
Once a person is on the floor and the kicks start raining in it's damn hard for them to get back to thier feet .
IMO This is one of the most cowardly bunch of retards walking .

All of the girls that participated in the beating should be beaten worse than the victim was, and scarred so that they'll remember their crime.
This was a terrible crime, but many boys go through far worse ordeals in these type of attacks every day and it rarely gets any attention.

Looks like the video has been taken down from YouTube. I didn't see it, but I heard about it.
According to CNN:
Eight Florida teenagers -- six of them girls -- will be tried as adults and could be sentenced to life in prison for their alleged roles in the videotaped beating of another teen, the state attorney's office said Thursday.
The suspects, who range in age from 14 to 18, all face charges of kidnapping, which is a first-degree felony, and battery, said Chip Thullbery, a spokesman for the Polk County state attorney. Three of them are also charged with tampering with a witness.

It was pretty vicious, at least the few minutes I saw of it. This little girl had no chance. She was surrounded by angry snarling teenagers, and she (the victim) probably weighs 90lbs, soaking wet... so it would have been pretty pointless for her to attempt to fight back. They'd have just beaten her worse for trying to retaliate.
I'm sure she wasn't a perfect little angel before it occurred, and probably had some hand in instigating a scuffle, but this was clearly an unfair fight and was WAY more than a minor scuffle. The saddest part is that these kids thought of it as entertainment, and were hoping to get famous on YouTube. Sad...

Why are they allowing this kind of real-life violence on YouTube? There are other videos of people fighting, including kids. It's unfathomable to me that this company is allowing children that commit barbaric, brutal acts of violence to use this medium for broadcasting themselves. This is not "free speech" anymore. It's aiding and abetting criminal behavior, for a profit. It should be banned, and if it is not, we're going to go further downhill as a society. I hope that they throw the book at the kids in this case, and continue to prosecute any and all criminal cases with YouTube as a defendant as well for allowing the videos.
What's next, everybody wears a hood while assaulting other people so that they will not be recognized in the videos?

Dr. Phil has not even fired the people or person that bailed Nichols out.
Dr. Phil thinks he's above the law. His only job is to entertain his audience, rather than get involved in legal matters. This is not the first time he's gone beyond what is acceptable behavior. Now that he's gotten involved, and interfered, he is generating sympathy for the criminal(s) and swaying public opinion - which may have a negative effect on the prosecution's case.
I hope that the girl skips bail, resulting in his reputation getting ruined. Dr. Phil needs to learn a lesson. His image should be portrayed as what it really is: A money hungry fraud.

I couldn't agree with you more. I've always found many of his views to be hypocritical, lacking judgment and only concerned for the welfare of his ratings. You're right that these employees should be fired... they ignored their own company protocol by bailing this little hussy out of jail. Well, I think the things those kids did were despicable, and I really want to see those kids get a taste of their own medicine, but just because they are moronic human beings who do terrible things doesn't mean they arn't human beings. They have feelings and rights that should be protected just as much as anyone else, regardless of how little they respect other people. Also, these are just kids, they are stupid like most kids. They still have a lot to learn about life. The rule of the streets is: If someone hits you, you hit them back several times, much harder. They deserve to have the shit kicked out of them - enough to be hospitalized for a long time.
Their lawyers are going to ask for community service, and no prison time.
The are not "stupid like most kids". Most "kids" do not act this way. I grew up in Brooklyn, and have first hand experience with extremely brutal kids and adults and, although there are far worse cases of juvenile delinquency all over the country, this is still shocking. These people are between 14 and 18 years old. That is certainly old enough to know that you don't attack people for fun. The victim may even lose her hearing in one ear.
Whatever happens to them, will probably not be enough - because the victim has to live with this for the rest of her life.
The rule of the streets is: If someone hits you, you hit them back several times, much harder. They deserve to have the shit kicked out of them - enough to be hospitalized for a long time.
If we are going to look at this in terms of 'rules of the streets' then what those 8 kids did to the one girl is perfectly ok. She dissed them publicly so they kicked her ass publicly. Rules of the streets are for animals, not reasonable human beings.

No most kids do not act this way, but many do. Here in Philly most of the senseless violent crime is committed by juveniles. It is because they are stupid, that is the only reason to attack people for no reason.
I can never understand why people want to try minors as adults. There is a reason why there is a criminal justice system for minors, because they are not held as responsible or intelligent as adults. If a 15 year old steals some candy from a store he is tried via juvenile corrections process. If that same 15 year old hits a man in the head with a bat and kills him he would most likely be tried as an adult. What is the difference? A crime is a crime. Just because the crime is more serious doesn't mean the individual is any less a minor. If minors are charged as minors for some crimes but not others, why even have a court system designed for them?
Whatever happens to them, will probably not be enough - because the victim has to live with this for the rest of her life.
You don't think a lifetime of having to bear such a horrible stigma is punishment enough? On top of that there will be tons of legal penalties the kids will have to face. The victim's physical wounds will heal for the most part, she will get over the psychological effects after a little time passes, her life will continue normally. The attackers on the other hand will never be able to live this down, and it happened to them at such a young age that their lives are pretty much ruined forever. They won't be able to go into public without feeling paranoid that people want to kick their ass.
Don't get me wrong, I feel for the victim, I have been the victim of violent crimes myself, and I think the 8 idiots who attacked that girl need to be punished, but come on, they just ruined their lives, they don't really need help from anyone else to do that anymore.

Stealing a candy bar is a far, far different act from what those kids in Florida did. Sure, try them as children - but give them very stiff sentences - in other words, reform school, with corporal punishment.

You are making a case that the perps are going to suffer more than the victim, because they have a guilty conscience. They do not have such feelings. If they did, they wouldn't have beaten that girl down in the first place. They are nothing more than wild animals. Worse, actually, because animals just attack on instinct - to survive. These animals did it for fun. And, that girl is traumatized, probably suffering PTSD, in addition to losing her hearing in one ear, as well as other injuries. Mental scars do NOT heal, in many cases.

Yeah, I agree that the punishment should fit the crime in this instance. I'm not advocating more senseless violence, but harsh legal penalties should be brought against them. Their age makes little difference to me, they willingly tortured a person over some ignorant cause, and for that, they shouldn't be allowed to forget their crime. If I were to beat the living shit out of someone in my house, all over some silly dispute, but I did it with intentions of preventing her from leaving (kidnapping), and with full intentions of displaying my bravado and malicious intentions on the internet, then I'd expect a harsh penalty to be brought down on me. (Damn, that was a long sentence.) Anything otherwise wouldn't be very fair to my victim.

Wrongdoers? On the streets there is no such thing as that. Wrongdoer is objective.
They attack people for no reason because they can get away with it, and their parents are idiots.
...and because they are idiots. I could probably kick somebody's ass and get away with it but I don't, because that is stupid.

That wasn't necessarily the point I was trying to make. The names and pictures of these kids have been plastered all over the news. Regardless if they have a guilty conscious or not they are going to have to live with the stigma of the morons who beat up another girl and posted it on youtube. Plus I think it is unfair to say that the kids won't ever feel guilty about it. I'm sure it is getting drilled into their heads right now just how idiotic and wrong what they did was. The only way they could not feel any remorse is if they were sociopaths.
And yes, sometimes mental wounds do not heal, but it's not like the girl went through a war or anything, she just got her ass kicked. It happens to thousands of people every day. If she isn't able to get over this then she probably has other mental problems to worry about.
"They ruined their lives"! They were LAUGHING at what they did, and actually put it on YouTube. They have no regrets, other than getting caught.
They were laughing when they did it, but I'm sure they arn't laughing anymore. The whole country hates them. Again, I think it is unfair to assume that they do not regret what they did. They disgraced themselves and their families, that is the worst punishment of all.
STIGMA ???????? WTF ?

I was not advocating for the attackers to be treated any less than the criminals that they are, but they are just kids. In our society kids are treated differently by the law than adults. I do not claim that these kids are misunderstood or should be let away with just a slap on the wrist, but honestly, what is locking them up for a few years gonna teach them that one ass kicking won't? (that their parents should be doing to them) The fact that they video tapped the attack, then put it on youtube with all their faces visible shows just how stupid these kids are, and they are gonna pay for their stupidity for the rest of their lives.
Anything otherwise wouldn't be very fair to my victim.
Either way, these brats need more than a slap on the wrist. They need a big slap of reality, so they'll realize that they may have just royally fucked their lives up over something trivial and stupid.
I agree with this, but I still hold my view that these are just kids and should be treated as such. I think it is a little too early in those people's lives to act like they are vicious and bloodthirsty at their core, I think when it comes down to it they were just being stupid kids doing horrible things. They should be punished harshly, if only for the victim's sake, but the punishment should take into account the circumstances of the attack and the mental capacity of the attackers.
Don't despise me because I am able to empathize with the attackers as well as the victim. I think the world needs a more in depth perspectives like that.

Don't despise me because I am able to empathize with the attackers as well as the victim. I think the world needs a more in depth perspectives like that.
I feel sorry for the parents and grandparents of these children, who've been receiving death threats from all across the U.S., and who are actually fearful of retaliation by someone looking to post a homicide on YouTube. I don't wish any form of physical reprisals on any of these kids, but I hope the justice system does make an example out of them. I'm not talking about life imprisonment, but I really don't want to see them walk away with a little community service, and nothing else. I was pretty wild as a kid, and I eventually got caught doing some really dumb things... subsequently, I got in some pretty serious legal trouble. I did my time, paid my fines, and came out with the knowledge that the lifestyle I was pursuing was nothing but trouble. Now, when I think back on it, I'm glad I got caught. It kept me in check, and prevented me from going down a really dark path in life.
We'll see what happens to these kids. If nothing else, I hope the media scrutiny is enough to make other kids really question their own judgment and decision making capabilities.

For a whole 15 minutes, until the media moves on to something else. In 6 months we probably won't remember this in any detail.
The kids need some kind of punishment, but life in prison/death is a bit much. Also a few year in prison would probably actually make thing worse. The kids would then move from a "do what you want home life" to a "fight or flight" prison life. The resulting person would be no better IMHO.
Some sort of massive community service, 6 months served time, and massive fines paid to the victim (to the tune of the attackers are working it off for many years) seems like a "good" punishment to me.

I think this should be all over the news,if they keep this stuff quiet than its gonna continue, but if its all over the news maybe more people will be aware that kids are doing this type of stuff on myspace and youtube.I was watching the news about some other fight, the kids were punching random people just so they could put it on youtube.wth?
Maybe they might start making that "good samaritan" policy, where the guy filmiong would get in trouble for mot calling 911 or helping.

And yes, sometimes mental wounds do not heal, but it's not like the girl went through a war or anything, she just got her ass kicked. It happens to thousands of people every day. If she isn't able to get over this then she probably has other mental problems to worry about.
I hope you remember that this girl was beated by 8 people for 30 minutes. If you think that this was justice for that girl posting things on MYSPACE about the other kids, than you've got some problems to worry about. Believe me, i've seen people get their asses kicked, but never have I encountered some one so primative as to lure someone to a house where 5 people are hiding, and beat them ON VIDEO for a half an hour. How about you tell this girl she's pussy because she partialy lost vision in one eye, and hearing in one ear. Fighting some one over a MYSPACE COMMENT is childish enough, but 8 people beating up on one girl for the same reason is plain animalistic. I dont know when you grew up, but I was always taught not to fight unless neccessary, and I had parents who atleast had the instinct to raise their children with ethics...

Ok...for the people who think this is what I was trying to say, you're not getting my point. I never said the girl deserved to get hurt. I never tried to belittle what the girl went through, only put it in perspective. I never said it wasn't fucked up. Re-read my posts.

Britain is already making a stand on this issue.

I hope none of these kids will get hired for any job. I can't ever see someone like that as my co-worker. Even a friend.. that's a horrible thing to do to someone. Yeah, sure, it was over Myspace. Still.. she got serious injuries because of it and it doesn't matter what started it.
