this is my first time using rock wool for seeds. does anyone really bring the PH to 5.5 like the rock wool directions really say? this would be used for soil grow. not hydroponics. thank you

Yeah, even for a soil grow you should still pre-treat the cubes. They are hydroponic until you stick em in dirt, remember!
If you don't want to fuss with that, try peat pucks or rapidrooters. I find RRs to be superior to RW for seedlings that are destined for a soil grow.

with the rock wool, do you recomend waiting to plant the rockwool in the soil until roots start to show? or just plant it immediatly?

Wait for roots IMO. And when you DO plant, make sure that the RW is exposed at the surface so that it can dry out a bit. Soggy RW around stem is a prime place for rot to take hold, which is why I don't really like it for a soil grow.
