So this spring I would like to grow some plants outdoors, but would like to germinate them indoors and let them sprout before I move them to the great outdoors.

Obviously I could do this with some cheap CFLs and a little homemade box, but a thought popped into my mind. Why not use the Aero Garden thingamajig from Bed Bath and Beyond? Here is a link: Bed Bath & Beyond Product (http://www.bedbathandbeyond.com/Product.asp?order_num=-1&SKU=110083)

What is your overall impression of this setup? Could I use this to get my babies a couple inches tall, then transplant them outside?

VERY expensive solution to what should be a cheap problem to fix. Plus going from hydro to soil is shocking tothe plants, even more than just going from inside to outside. You will have to get pots of soil anyway to nurse them through the acclimation period.
Walmart... peat pucks... a flourescent shop light... 3 weeks in your spare room and then SEEYA! :D

Funny. I was thinking the same thing. There was an article in the local newspaper about those things, and if I remember right, they run $250 and up. $250 vs $30....I know which way *I* would go :D.
