Welcome my happy weed smoking friends to my outdoor grow 2008...

This will be a great year for all of us, i hope....i gonna upload tons of pix, gonna try to share my experience and my knowledge of more than 10 years of outdoor growing....this is what i know and love, not the indoor growing(which is also a great fun)....

I have multiple spots, where i gonna grow our beloved plant...
This years strain is TH seeds The HOG X Herbaria's Shiva's Joy...both are indicas...These seed have been crossed here locally, so they are acclimatized to this region...
I'm hoping to get other seeds too, but it's not 100%...
We have real warm summers, so it will be a difficult thing to water the plants...hoping for rain too, but it's more likely that it will have a drought...

I'm gonna upload the first pix soon...

So, let the games begin....:hippy:

Criminy, it's darn nasty, wintery today. My new 120 gallon composter blew away and got pretty busted up. I can't wait to grow outdoors, though it appears that Spring may never get here. Right from Winter to Summer again. Well, at least I can get some new ideas here I'll be able to put them to use this season.

So, let's go!

Thinking of doing the same. Lost of places around here. Zeb, what do you think about putting 1 in a 10 gal bucket painted like tree bark and lifted to the top of a big tree and left in the canopy? access is a problem due to having to climb a tree but I could check it a few times. Just a though. figured 10 gal for a mostly sativa would be enough

Well it's a good idea, but it won't work...the problem is that in summer the soil in the bucket gonna get dry real fast...and to climb a tree every 1-2 day's is not good, plus the water is heavy too...
Other thing is when its warm, the roots get cooked easily when sun shines on the bucket....it's more easy to simply put the plants in th ground....

Shov...sorry to hear about your composter....we have gr8 weather here atlast, everything is flowering, birds are singing...i love it....

I see what you mean. Climbing an oak tree all summer is not my idea of a good time although I do like to climb trees from time to time, just not with buckets of water. The weather is warm here too and i doubt we will have a frost again. How many times should you visit your plant? I have about 200 seeds from a hermied plant I got. Is it true that a large % of those are in fact female? I guess I would need to check them later to get rid of the males.

Zeb,

10 years experience, now I know who to ask questions:)

First one- Is it true when starting and veging a plant indoors under 24/0 and do an entire veg. Then place the plant outdoors any time of the season it will start flowering immediately therefore making possiable multiple harvests thru out the season?

I have read about this and I am planning to use this therory this summer.

Well i don't know if this would work Jerry...i only heard that if you put a flowering plant out in spring it won't reveg, and you can harvest it before summer, but i never seen anybody actually try this method, nor did i tried any of these methods myself...
I don't believe that a 24/0 veg plant would start to flower when you put it out, i think it would start to flower only in the end of summer...but you can never know until you try it, maybe it could work...

About that 10 years...well yeah i started to grow back in 97, but you shouldn't think that i know it all....i really have a lot to learn, and i often forget good old methods and useful things, and rediscover them later...but if you or anyone has a question i will try to help...

JeffersonBud....you should visit as often as you can....i usually visit my plant 1-2 times a week...watering is very important...and during harvest time i like to check my plant more often if they are ripe, or is there any sign of mold....

Thanks for your insite on my question.

Well I still figur I will give it a go and just keep placing cloans all over the countryside this summer and see what happens. I will start a log soon on my experience's.
Looks like my first ones will go out in mid May and if they don't start flowering they are going to be giants by October.

JeffersonBud....i don't know how tall they gonna get...because this is a cross of two strains, i think there gonna be many phenotypes...i hope they gonna get BIG...we shall see...

Good luck Jerry whit your grow, i hope we gonna see many pix.... but remember to prepare the soil before you plant out your cloans...outdoor growing is all about good prepared soil, watering, sunlight and luck:wtf:....

Hey b0n3ZA nice to see you m8.. yes i have grown outdoors, and i hope this year will be the best so far....

Some pix...my little BT's seem to feel good, growing nicely...

I realized recently that i never had pure indica plants, just hybrids and sativas. The truth is i am not that big indica fan, but i hope this gonna change. So this will be kind of a new experience, i'm real exited how they gonna look, smell , taste...the breeder of the BT said that it's an uniform strain...

zebulon
04-22-2008, 05:21 PM
The plants are 20 days old, i have transplanted them into bigger pots 5 days ago...
I think they are almost ready, gonna start to plant them out soon...
We had lots of rain recently, so i couldn't go out because of the mud, that why i'm little behind whit the work, but so far i have 3-3 holes prepared....

zebulon
05-06-2008, 09:21 PM
Here are the first pix of the plants in nature....i have planted out 8 of them, 1 week ago...2 have been already eaten....but it's no problem, i have other plants in reserve....

I wanted to water my plants today, but i found a dead deer (Capreolus capreolus) in the water....have to get water from elsewhere...it was disgusting, so i took a pic of it...

In the last pic you can see one of the worst enemy of a ganja grower...The European Rabbit (Oryctolagus cuniculus)....this one was a very tame individual....

what you are doing for deer repellent?
For deer repellent?? A shotgun....;)
There is not much i can do, don't want to use any repellent chemicals, so i think i gonna hang a few stinky socks around the plants, so they can smell the angry human, and run away...:D
The truth is that i can do what i want, but if the deer wants eat the plant, nothing can stop it...my personal favorite is when they antler starts to throw its skin and they rub it nicely in the flowering plants the ease the itching.....love it...

zebulon
05-18-2008, 07:05 AM
The plants look nice and happy, i gave them some grow nutes...
It's a pita to visit the plants, the whole area has become a jungle, huge swarms of mosquito's and ticks everywhere...
But at least they are safe, i think....

05-18-2008, 08:12 AM
looking good zeb. Glad to hear you got them in the ground, too bad you lost a few to nature but at least it was the animals and not humans who did the destruction.

are they getting enough sun in the last pics? looks a lil overgrown.

you could try "peeing" near you plants as a deer repellent but I dont know much about deer or repelling them, so thats just a guess. Im jealous of your outdoor wildlife, all I got to look at are lizards, bugs, and birds.

Hey thanks m8....
Yes the plants are a bit stretching due to the fact that it is a area whit trees and bushes, and when i prepared the holes it was winter/spring, and i didn't thought that the trees will grow so much, so the area became more shady...but i think they will be alright if they get bigger...

And thanks for the "peeing" tip, i used it before, it seems to work...only problem is that you need a lot of pee for 6 plants...:D

zebulon, thanks for all of those incredible pictures! As much as I enjoy pictures of buds, your pictures of nature and your surroundings are outstanding! You have a true photographer's eye, and I look forward to your future nature pictures, along with following the progress of your outdoor grow!

Hey, thanks Jakezking.....It's so nice to get some compliments, i'm really happy that you like my pix....I really love nature, it has so many beautiful sides, but sadly many people don't seem to interested in it, or they don't have/take the time to stop and watch....

jakezking
06-05-2008, 06:40 PM
zeb, I am happy to provide compliments where they are deserved. I too love nature - I think most stoners do, as we naturally tend to veg out watching the Discovery channel, eh? Life is always hectic at work, so it's nice to finally slow down, and there is something about literally and figuratively stopping to smell the roses that helps keep my blood pressure in check. Your photo of the cloud formation is outstanding! It is a wicked looking thunderstorm brewing, eh - a guess from the pure height of the clouds.

Your family's beehives are awesome too. I read somewhere, sometime about declining bee populations - definitely here in the U.S.A. It seems like it was attributable to some disease? I was wondering if you had any insight/knowledge of such? What would the world come to without bees? I had not seen a honeybee for a long time, but here recently have seen a couple flying around my pool. I was wondering if the bee was interested in my poolside plant - hehehe.

Keep up the outstanding grow work, my friend, and please keep posting your photos!

zebulon
06-05-2008, 09:54 PM
Hey, thanks again....

Yeah, we had a big thunderstorm yesterday, and today, it was raining too, so the plants had a nice drink, and are quite happy right now, i think...

We had/have this declining bee populations thing too here in Europe....sometimes whole regions are struck by it....it's a very sad thing...I heard something like, if all the bee would be gone, it would only take a few years and most of the plants would get extinct....

Here are some more pix if you like em....i took these yesterday....taking pix is a little hobby of mine, i have some experience in it, and it is also a great "alibi" if growing weed outside....someone asks what i'm doing in the bushes, i can tell i'm a hobby photographer....

I hope Stinky not gonna kick my ass for uploading non cannabis related pix....

06-06-2008, 12:36 AM
Hey Hydro, thanks m8....well that is in fact kind of my land, if i had the money i could use it and grow something....It would be cool to grow some corn next year, and put a bunch of weed in the middle of the field...or industrial hemp...no one would ever notice some "real" plants...and if i would choose a later flowering strain, it wouldn't even get seedy....but that is a lot of money, which i don't have...

stupid question time Zeb, how come you don't plant rooted clones only? then you wouldn't have the guessing game wondering whether they're female or not, they'd all be female.

btw, beautiful country you live in man, and i don't think you need to worry about Stinky, she loves nature too much herself, lol

anyway, good luck, hopefully the predators (rabbits) don't take too heavy a toll

Hey Bozo, thanks.....
Clones?? Well the truth is i was thinking about that, but i only received my seeds not long ago, so i don't had the time....also i don't have the space to make moms, and root clones....and the last one, i simply don't like clones too much....i always used seeds, never had problems...in fact i'm happy that there are some males, so i can do some breeding....

zeb! Your plants look pretty darn outstanding! I am jealous of your strain genetics - I can't wait to get some good, known strains, so I will actually know what I am growing, and have an idea as to how they are to develop. That thornbush is amazing, and should serve to keep the critters away. It appears you truly found the perfect location for your lil' ladies - natural barbwire and mounds of composted manure! I'm looking forward to seeing how your ladies will thrive under these excellent conditions!

I did notice a little yellowing of the lower leaves on the Hog x Shivas. I've seen this same yellowing on my own plant, and was wondering if you had a definitive answer as to the cause? I have read quite a bit on this board, and through assimilation of such information I have either accurately or inaccurately concluded it is from a nutrient issue, either a lack of nutrients or excess nutrients? I look forward to your experienced analysis.

Hope all else is well with you, my friend! Be good out there!

Yeah, I'm happy that i have different strains this year, i hope they will survive, so that there will be some variety....
This new site, where the plants are, is such a great place, i think it will see many future grows....The best is that the plants are mostly surrounded by this thornbush....It's some pretty nasty shit...if it stings you, the tip of the thorn brakes easily off into the skin, and can cause some local infection, if you are not poking it out whit a needle....

In my case, it's very simple what the cause of the yellowing is. It's because the plants where in my small vegbox(which you can see in my other log), and there was limited space, so i gave them no nutes, in hope that they not gonna outgrow the box before i can put em out....it's the lack of Nitrogen that causes the yellowing...imo...
Now that they are planted out, i have started to feed the ladies....they get grow nutes till the start of the flowering(Aug.,Sept.), and then i gonna feed em whit flower nutes....Usually when the plant is flowering it needs much less N, so the flowering nutes have a lower N content, than the grow nutes.....the plant uses up the remaining N during flowering, which causes the yellowing of the lower, bigger leafs....It's a normal thing that the lower leafs turn yellow during the middle, end of flowering....

Hope all else is well with you, my friend! Be good out there!

Thanks again....you too...

Looks like you should do pretty good Zeb, funny here I'm called redeyed but every body I know calls me Zeb, caught me off gaurd when I saw your thread. Hey for future referance the tree thing works,I have done it. The trick is to use a rope and pulley so as to only climb the tree once. It's not so much that the soil will dry out but that the roots get to hot in the pale that's painted brown, black, green what ever. I did it twice as an experiment and got some buds, pretty good for a bag seed experiment. I won't do it again only because it is a royal pain in the ass and I got plenty of land to do my thing.
Sorry to change the scene but just wanted to throw that one out there. Good luck and and I'll check you out soon.:greenthumb:

WOOOOOT !!!

Today was another visit day and the plants look so good....this time i only gave em water, no nutes....
I was a bit worried that i find the plants drooping because we have a minor heatwave currently, but they are looking good and enjoying the all-day sunshine....
It's bean only 8 day since they where planted out, but are already growing nicely....especially the Big Bang....that plant is already like 1 feet tall....i was like  when i saw it today...and it has shown sex....it's a She(from femmed seed)....
The other look good too....the Power Plant has already that smell, which i love so much...
The Trainwrecks seem to be struggling a bit, but it's no biggie....

So, first of all here are the HOG X Shiva's, which i figured could be called an IBL, because it was back crossed a few times already in past years.....

Trainwreck 1 & 2....
First 2 pix are TW1, pic 3 & 4 are TW2....
They look a bit strange, like if they don't like too much direct sunlight, or there is some problem whit the soil....
But they are growing, and that is what's important....

I can't wait to follow your PP grow, as I ordered some Nirvana Pure Power Plant awhile back and am currently, anxiously awaiting their arrival. I've heard great things about the PP strain, and hope they are true!

I hope you have continued good luck in this season's grow. You will wind up with some great variety of smoke that will hopefully keep you in the green until next season!

Hey, Thanks Shov and Jake....it's nice to get a pat on the back...:hippy:

Was visiting the plants yesterday, gave em water....nothing special ...one of the little Hog X Shiva's got eaten, but luckily it was a male, nature helped me out...:)

Plants are doing good, growing nicely, but the Big Bang has gone nuts....it's growing like crazy....i thought Power Plant had an "enormous grow potential", but the BB is already twice as big as the PP....but it is older too....

So i took pix yesterday and made a Gif. of the little Hog x Shiva's, it's only 3 pix and it's shitty, but somewhat cool imo...little time lapse....
The other 2 pix are the Big Bang....enjoy peeps....:hippy:

i only heard that if you put a flowering plant out in spring it won't reveg, and you can harvest it before summer, but i never seen anybody actually try this method, nor did i tried any of these methods myself...
I don't believe that a 24/0 veg plant would start to flower when you put it out, i think it would start to flower only in the end of summer...but you can never know until you try it, maybe it could work...

I know this is a little late, but the only thing that determines if a weed plant flowers or vegges is the light schedule and variety of weed. And as far as a know a plant can be revegged an infinite number of times.

[quote=zebulon]For deer repellent?? A shotgun....;)
There is not much i can do, don't want to use any repellent chemicals, so i think i gonna hang a few stinky socks around the plants, so they can smell the angry human, and run away...[quote]

You might try some Liquid Fence. It's natural, smells like shit, and seems to work. It won't solve all issues.

i was thinking about topping or lst, but i think this time i gonna leave em as nature intended........

Nature intended for a branch to blow off a tree and hit the top of your plant and knock it off. Notice how tall your plants are getting? You get the same or more weed if you top once or twice, and you will not have to worry about your plants being seen because they are growing above their surroundings as much, and they will be less likely to break when they get rich with buddage.

Nice grow. Nice pictures. Great job so far, jolly good show and keep up the good work.

One word of advice, or so: Some pictures didn't exactly look 100% indica to me, but if they are as you say, be real careful if they start to get rained on for a couple days. Bud rot is a bitch, it comes on fast and spreads fast, especially in indica varieties.

Hey Opie, thanks for you insight....
You are rite. I was talking about putting a plant out here locally. Here i don't think it could work, because we have late frosts, so i think i could only put out the plant during April or even later and i think that late the plant would not start to flower.
But it could work for sure, if you live more down south, whit no (late) frosts....

Funny you say this, I just topped the smaller plants two days ago.Yes, the older ones are tall, but if i had topped em they would still get stretchy because they are not getting that much light as the smaller plants. When i was choosing the spot during February, i didn't thought that it would get so bushy. A few years ago i always used to top the plants, but to be honest i don't see that big difference in yield between topped and un-topped plants. I didn't topped these plants so they can get more light, but it's a good spot, nobody goes even near. You are rite about that the branches could break. But now there is not much i can do. If it's gonna look bad, i gonna support the plant whit a pole...

Nice grow. Nice pictures. Great job so far, jolly good show and keep up the good work.

Yeah, i said wrongly 100% indica, it's more like "mostly" indica...;)
I had problems whit budrot before, It's some pretty nasty shit.
I think it was 2001 when it was raining whole September. It was a massacre, there where many victims.....Let's hope for a dry September.

Thanks again for checking in, your thoughts are always welcome ....

I didn't know much at all about Big Bang, so I just did some quick research, and it does look like it has a huge production outdoors. I'm like you, I thought the PP would be your big producer, which is why I keep ordering PPP. But, it looks like you may have a nice arms race on your hands, eh?

I hope you have some nice weather in your finishing Fall months, so these ladies reach their full potential. I can't wait for the final wrap up, so I can begin planning for next year's outdoor grow!

zeb, dude, those are some real beauties! I can't take my eyes off the Big Bang! She is a MONSTER! As for the Power Plant, it is a close 2d. As for its sex, it's really hard to tell. That first up close picture seems to show some claw like formations at the node lower than the focused area; and, I don't know what to say about the protrusions you focused on - looks like they may just be additional leaves. I hope your PP shows fem though - of course.

I think if you took the BB and the PP out of the picture, you would be really impressed with the Hog x Shiva and the Trainwreck, but having the BB and PP to compare the others too, really makes them look like runts. You just have to quit comparing them to see them for their own glory.

Another couple of really awesome nature photos you have shared with us! Thanks! That 2d picture showing the bee climbing up the backside of that flower is truly incredible. You do have a good eye for photography!

Be good out there, my friend!

imo it's easy to maintain a few outdoor plants, it's not that much work, but you must have a good spot...Luckily, around here, there are so many great spots and it's not that far away from home....it would suck to live in a big city...

Tokr....Greenatik is rite, you should post in the plant problems section, Stinky or somebody can help for sure....but if i had to guess, i would say the soil is too soggy, too heavy not enough drainage and ph problems - nute lockout :wtf::D....i would transplant that plant into a bigger pot, whit good quality potting soil that has a ph around 6.5, and mix at least 25-30% perlite in it....make sure that excess water can leave the pot during waterings...but this is just a guess, you should listen to Stinky....she has seen it all...

Very nice log and so enjoy all the photography! That is a great idea to take your camera with you! Around here, people put cat shit around plants and trees they don't want eaten! Like Opie said, whatever smells like 'shit'! It is most likely cats! Anyway, the only problem is, the little rabbits, etc. don't like the cats; but the coyote's love them-not sure if the coyote would eat the precious plants though?

Have heard no animal will go around Wolf piss- so stoke up and piss a lot! Just joking--some people actually sell it on line to keep all critters away! i don't know if it works. But the man up the hill from me claims he has a wolf in his mix of dogs--I have not seen a coyote since that wolf (or whatever it is) appeared!

Thanks for the education! :thumbsup::thumbsup:

JG.

no its not true it will still get the right amount of light to keep it in veg. but it might work if you flower it for about 3 weeks inside then put it out after that. you could always scope out a spot and make sure that it is well shaded for part of the beginning or end of the day so it gets the right amount of time to bud.

What beautiful countryside you live in! I love your grow that Big bang is gonna reach the moon!(G) I don't have problems with deer because our property is fensed in but the mice and bunns..... Sadly there are is some bad news too...the Big Bang, which was my biggest plant so far, is dying....she was simply to big and couldn't take her own weight, and the stem snapped....i tried to support her but the damage is too big, i think she's gonna die soon...pix below...

But first here are the 3 Hog x Shiva girls....

That's it for today ppl....:hippy:

I was watering the plants today...the Big Bang is history....it was a beautiful plant, i'm sad that it's gone, but at least i still have another few plants left...i feel bit shitty...loosing plants....i have no more weed left, and harvest is still so far away...2 months...:(
The bat guano i ordered is not coming, the shop fucked me over...luckily there is another shop - hopefully they gonna deliver...

Still looking good, despite the few problems you're having. I know the feeling. I can't remember if we talked about topping, but they would be less likely to topple if they were topped. It would make them shorter, but with more bud sites, so same amount of bud roughly. I don't mean now, it's too late. Sometimes I end up tying my outdoor plants to trees or whatever is near. If they do bend from weight though, they will usually be OK, even if you leave them bent.

OOOOOOOHHHHHHH MY GOD !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Zeb,

Those plants are huge:) You are going to have to come up with something to hold those plants up. When they go into full flower they are going to weigh a hell of a lot more than now. Their own weight will make them fall over!!!!

I suggest going to Home Depot and get some thin metal fence posts 4' to 5' long, pound one 18'' or more into the ground at the base of each plant (about 6'' from the stalk), then use tie-wraps fitted loosely around the stalk to hold the mid section of the plant in place . This won't hurt the plant and prevent her from falling over in the storms that will come in the fall.

AGAIN, my god you have some beautiful plants I am envious.

JG

Mr. Zeb - dude, your ladies are lookin' good! I can't wait to see them all buxom and saggin' under the weight of their huge buds! They are on their way to providing you sustenance for many months to come.

Dude, you have to post more nature shots. I've got to get a new camera soon; in runnin' it through a break-in period I will try to share some sights from around my parts. You have some truly beautiful surroundings within which to grow and enjoy life. Be good out there!

nice look plants.

I had a thought about getting some synthetic predator (fox, or wolf, cayote...) urine and spraying that around to help with animals. Have you thought of using a folar spray of neem oil? it does a good job of keeping bugs off. Also I know that if you use ground up chili pepper scattered around it will keep geese away, it might work for rabbits too. i have no idea if it would mess w. ph, but i don't really think so.
keep up the good work, looking foreward to more pics

First the HOG X Shiva's Joy plants....
If you look at the pic, you can see that there are basically 2 phenotypes, the 2 bigger plants(under the red arrows) are a bit more stretchy, look and smell almost the same way...they have a nice fruity smell, so i named it the Fruity pheno...
The other, smaller plant(under the green arrow) has more compact buds and a smell nothing like the others...i named it the Sugar pheno...

Well guys 'n gals , slowly we are getting closer to harvest, things are looking good so far....it was raining whole week, and it was colder then usually, but there is no sign of mold so far....there is some damage done by pests, but it's only minor....buds on the HxS'j starting to ripen up nicely, first harvest in 2-3 weeks....i have already took sample buds, because i had no herb left....chopped it up into little budlets, so it dried out fast...took buds from the plant that has fallen over(first plant in last update), and the sugar pheno....i have tried both, also gave buds to my buddy, who smokes lots more weed than i do....funny thing is both are pretty potent already, the sugar pheno has a smell and taste like hash, and tho it's completely dry, it burns really-really slow....i met my friend yesterday, who looked like a zombie from smoking all day - so it's already a great smoke, but it's not gonna be my favorite smoke for sure....it's like the typical dank weed you can get from dealers around here, it's strong and it puts you to sleep....not a daytime smoke, a mostly indica strain, some would call the high "boring"....I'm not a big indica fan, it's nice if i need to sleep - but i really can't wait for the Power Plant and the Trinwreck to finish...both look good so far, visited em yesterday, i gonna update the log in a few days....:hippy:

What happens happens, live on full force with positive vibrations.

Those plants were gorgeous, you know how to grow dank herb. find a nice tree and hang a big ol pot up there...for some reason even the people who arent tokers are attracted to the dank odor, only except to diminish rather than replenish.

Keep the plants growin! put em in multiple spots to minimize the chance of losing your whole crop

But, not all is lost...i managed to harvest that 1 lonely HxS plant hidden in the bush...it's not much but it's something.....

zeb! I've been looking for good news lately. Crap seems to have been hittin' the fan all over the place, and your news hit me like a ton of bricks. But, now I hear there was a survivor? That is great news! I know it is only a small fraction of what you were expecting, but I'm glad to hear all is not completely lost! I bet that will be some of the best weed you've ever smoked too! Thanks for updating and sharing this good bit of news, my friend! I can't wait for your pics and smoke report!
