Does anyone else here play online poker?
I don't get to go out much because my bike is in desperate need of repairs and my health is pretty shitty so I tend to get bored a lot.
I love the game , I only play low stake games but it is my favourite way of wasting a few hours.

I absolutely love it. No better feeling than calling someone's bluff and doubling up with a pair of 6's. :D

What ever happened to "The house allways wins" lets face high stakes or low, you'll never really make money at it. but if your happy spending money to play the game for playing sake, fair enough, enjoy:thumbsup: but surely there must be better ways of wasting time. any way i all ways prefered the strip variety of poker, are they doing that on line yet lol;)

I play poker online daily for about 2 hours a day. I also make trips out to the casinos twice a month.
My goal is to become a professional poker player. I have a great job and make more money than most people being a CCIE but I love poker.
Currently from online play I make on average about 3k a month. Mostly I play tournaments. If I play cash tables I usually play the $5/10 blinds.
I started out about a year and a half ago playing the 0.5/0.10 blinds. lol

I find playing online very different to playing in a club or casino.
You can't bluff as much online and you get some real idiots playing silly hands all in before the flop. I shouldn't complain about the planks though as they are good for my bank balance.
I doubled my original deposit in the first 3 days of playing. :D
I have a tourney starting in about 10 minutes ,, wish me luck folks.

Oh yea. I love poker. I've been playing it every day for 2 years now. I used to play it all day long on weekends. I just won a tourny with 10,000 ppl in it about a month ago. It was a freeroll tho, but I won a ticket to a tourny with a 50k prize pool guaranteed. I've always wanted to become a professional poker player, but its risky.

I used to but I like the live tables much more. On Online I used to always get the bad beat. Coars thats happend live as well. but I like live much better and the tornaments are funn too, as long as its "all in" cause then it starts to get a little long in hours

Pokerstars is the biggest site with the most games, Full Tilt gives a good signup bonus, like you say there's tons!

Beware of the donks at fulltilt. Even at the $10/$5 blind level the donks are abundant.
Bodog is even worse. Granted more donks means you can get away with more aggressive play, but it doesn't work the same way as when you're at a live table. Sometimes it works in your advantage.. sometimes it hurts you big time

Never played at bodog, but you're right there's a lot of donks on full tilt. The more donks the better IMO, if people wanna take bad bets against me great, ok so they'll suck out and win some and when you hit a streak of them it hurts but over time the blips will work themselves out and in the long run i know i make a plenty of easy money from them ;)

It's just the big ones where they suck out on the river that just kill me and leave me reeling in my seat. Lost a pretty decent sized pot earlier today.. Had a AJs hand preflop.. so I raise a bit.. he calls and we go into the flop. AA3 comes out.. so I check to lure him in and sure enough he raises.. so I reraise and he calls.
K comes out... So I raise the pot, which was a pretty decent chunk at that point. He calls... T hits the river.. he checks.. I am wary of his donkiness at this point.
He had QJ.... donk sucked out big time whenhe should've folded preflop or at least on the flop. sigh.. those are the hands that are aggrevating.

Yeah those ones hurt, like you say he made two bad calls but i'd happily shov all my chips in time and time again against runner runner and/or 4 outs on the river.
Thought you was gonna say he had pocket 3's and flopped a boat, now that would of been sick :cursing:

Stay Away I know it will be hard the first few days but you will loose your shirt overtime.. I know plenty of people that started playing the same way you have. Before you know it they are playing the SLOTS and the other crazy rigged games and DOWN a SHIT LOAD of $$$$... That is just my opinion take it for what it is worth... If you are going to Play GOOD LUCK HOPE YOU WIN MILLIONS.....

The secret is never to bet more than you can afford to lose.
I try to play smart and I have more than doubled my original deposit, I only play small stake games online , I save the big stake games for the clubs and casinos where you can more easily judge the body language of players.

Poker specifically Texas Hold'em, unlike many other games, is a game that requires a serious number of skill. It's more skill, problem solving, math and psychology/cognitive behavior observation than it is just plain gambling.
Personally I think you're being very extreme. You have to play responsibly. I never make a bet I can't afford to lose.
As a general rule of thumb I never use more than 10% of what my total bankroll on a poker site is. ie: if I have $1k on my account, I'll never play with more than $100 per day.
I made a signifigant amount of money last year... probably equivelant to an entry level position (25k-35k) last year. I started on full tilt with $100 . I play medium/large stakes currently.
Sometimes just to kill time I'll play small stakes.. like .25/.50 or 1/2 blinds.

Good poker forum, or was. I haven't visited much.
I love playing live poker, I don't really care for online poker.

YES
if you have an addictive personality or have ever shown lack of discipline, poker can be very dangerous.
I've dropped about 20k (?) and I am just now starting to overcome the problem.
Its not because I am a poor player, i'm actually very very good at the game, but if you play outside of your bankroll, you WILL go broke.
its just too easy to jump to the next stake online before you're ready to absorb the bad beats.
I love poker, don't get me wrong, but some things you like aren't the best thing for you.
I'm a bonus whore. Play on almost every site, rotating around, collecting bonuses and cashing out. Been online since 2001. Started at PokerRoom was my first online deposit. I am up approximately $15000 in that time span, 8 years. Not huge but steady.
I play more live now like at underground clubs and home games. More money to be made there and no cashing out BS. :rasta:

Continue to only play low stakes, please.
I once made $2,000 in one night, moved up in stakes like a dumbass, lost everything, put in another $1,000 from my credit card and lost that, a few days later I was still fuming about losing a $2,000 profit and lost another $1,000.
Overall I went about $2,500 in debt in a couple of days all at 18 years old. :(
That aside, I love live games. The first time I played I won $1,100 at the casino and I place 1st - 2nd in about 75% of home games.
I only played at a major casino once and lost $300 in an 8 hour session. I think the best hand I had all night was a pair of jacks with the exception of having pocket AA beaten on the river by 8-9 off suit...
I love poker.
