NORML Blog » Blog Archive » NORML Partners with Rep. Barney Frank (D, MA) to Introduce Federal Decriminalization Legislation! (http://blog.norml.org/2008/03/24/norml-partners-with-rep-barney-frank-d-ma-to-introduce-federal-decriminalization-legislation/#more-43)

I'm not sure if this has been posted before and I apologize if it has but everyone pay attention to this legislature as it can make it legal for us non-medical states and recreational users to possess up to 100 grams, transfer marijuana for non profit as well as personal use. No more paranoia, no more looking over our shoulders, no more driving EXACTLY the speed limit way over in the right lane when transporting your weed, no more handcuffs, no more stash boxes, no more hiding the smell of your ganja, no more bullshit.

We HAVE to get this law passed and I for one will do anything I can to make sure this does. This is at the FEDERAL LEVEL guys, so this is serious. We have to make this happen as a community because treating us as criminals is not productive and is unbelievably unfair. If you smoke pot and even if you don't, you should be a part of this. Too many of us are unwilling to make the effort to get MJ legalized yet complain sitting on our asses about how its illegal. This bill eliminates all penalties for the above stated....not even as much as a civil fine.

Do something about it. Let's get this done people. We have the facts, we have the arguments, now we just need to present them in a way so people see the light. (no pun intended)

Also pay attention to the state legislatures regarding marijuana use and send out letters to your local senator to get this movement in gear. NORML's website already has pre-written letters all you gotta do is send them. It's show time and its everything we've been waiting for. Let's get this beautiful plant......

Dare I say it....

LEGALIZED.

I can't wait to blow a blunt in the cops face who arrested me...though that probably wouldn't be wise....one can dream though?

At least someones still putting effort for legalization. Even if it doesn't happen in our life time.

Yeah we can't give up. It will get done eventually if we keep hammering away at it.

Legalization will take place eventually. However, it will require a lot of effort on our behalf and will probably be a slow, incremental process (federal legalization for medicinal use, federal decriminalization for recreational use, full legalization). I think one of the most crucial things for us in order to achieve legalization is to get America to drop the stigma attached to marijuana. We need to change the public perception of cannabis and cannabis users, as too many people are still buying into the ridiculous and baseless propoganda of the mid 20th century.

That being said, I will still definately spread the word about this bill, and I encourage everybody to do the same.

This 4-20 I plan on printing and handing out hundreds of flyers addressing marijuana legalization. Now that this has come up, I will include a page dedicated to this bill and will state why decriminalization is important for ALL people, not just users. (Eg, the staggering financial costs of prohibition, millions of man hours wasted in petty arrests, overcrowded prisons where violent criminals are often parolled to make room for cannabis arrests, etc).

I occasionally send some bucks to MPP (Marijuana Policy Project), they do SO much for getting us on the state ballots, and have fulltime lobbyists in Washington D.C. ... I recently signed up for an automatic $10 a month contribution to go on my VISA card ... wish I could do more, but if everybody did that, it would make a big difference  (see, politicians vote according to how much bribe money they can collect ) ... writing threads about wanting legal pot, is fine, but doesn't change a fucking thing, it takes MONEY $$$$ ... "money talks, bullshit walks" applies well here :wtf: ... c'mon, folks, we spend more than that on rolling papers :D ... open up those wallets
