Okay guys. Am I the only one with problem skin?
Seriously. I have had such trouble with my skin over the years. I have tried a lot of crazy shit to make my skin better - drinking water, exercise, face washes, medications... blah blah blah.
I have just started a new regimen for face care - I am trying virgin coconut oil and I'll be making up a tea tree toner sometime soon to go with it.
My question is this: what kinds of things have you done to care for your skin and do you have any (1) earth-shattering tips to get perfect skin or (2) funny stories?

Is caused by our "Western" diet! You might find this an interesting read- it's about the Ache and Kitava people and how their kids NEVER get acne!
"Dr. Cordain describes the studies he and his associates made of the current remnants of hunter-gatherer societies, specifically the Kitava Islanders of Papua New Guinea, and the Ache tribe in the Amazon jungles. These populations consume little to no refined, processed foods, and get all of their carbohydrates from low impact sources. And, astonishingly enough, they have no acne. None."

I find this particular quote very compelling: "Parenthetically, I have long wondered what the consequences to the economy would be if everyone just stopped eating garbage. What would happen to the market for both over-the-counter and prescription pharmaceuticals? Skin care products? Make up? Dandruff shampoo? Recreational drugs and alcohol? No doubt there would still be markets for these things, but they'd take a huge hit - not to mention, of course, the demise of the junk food manufacturers. It's sad to think how much of the American economy - and, increasingly, the world economy - is based on malnutrition"
Thanks for the article - though I generally eat healthy (I do, after all, sell vitamins for a living) I will definitely watch more closely after reading this article.
I will also share it with my clients.

Granny: holy shit! (I love that I can say those words together here)
After reading that article, and talking to a coworker, I found the sugar thing very compelling.
I began taking 600 mcg of ChromeMate chromium each day, and watching my sugar intake a little more carefully, and my skin is much clearer!
I'm going to keep it up :)

Man, I have the same problem. My skin is way better than it used to be in high school, but every now and then my skin will flare up with some acne.
I recommend getting some kind of oral medication prescription from your doctor. I have some medication for my face and have been using it everyday, and it keeps acne in check for the most part. Just make sure your doctor doesn't "go pussy" on you with the prescription. Doctors like to use the weak shit before going strong. Tell him you want it gone and gone fast, so dont go lightly.
If this stuff doesn't work there is one MAJOR way to get rid of your acne. Its called accutane, and its a prescription pill that basically eliminates acne. Its kinda rough though because it can dry out your skin terribly and some of the side effects include depression. I was on accutane in highschool and I didnt become depressed at all, but my brother did develop a short temper and my family suspected the accutane. You also have to get monthly blood tests, which pissed me off because I HATE needles. but it got rid of my acne and has dramatically reduced the acne I do get every now and then.

Yeah I get skin problems from time to time but I have a feeling it has something to do with the unhealthy amount of chocolate cookies I consume on a weekly basis. :D

I found a good way for me to get rid of acne, was to put a thin layer of Milk of Magnesia, on my face, before I go to bed. Just rub it on, with extra attention to problem spots, let it dry, and leave it overnight. Wash your face with a gentle soap beforehand, and cut down on sugar, and you'll be sure to lose your acne.

do not take accutane!
I know some people out there have great results but I know more people that haven't. I took it because I had pretty bad acne and yeah it got rid of it because it kills your oil glands in your skin. Nice now i have to wear lotion every day and it also gave me horrible night blindness, among its other 1,000 bad side effects - i am sure you will experience quite a few.
Ok may i suggest two other treatments. one is homeopathic; squeeze fresh lemon into hot water and wash your face with it. I dont know an exact ratio of lemon to water but I was told this by the doctor who had to take my blood while on accutane. He said it completely got rid of his acne. Unfortunately I can't try it because my skin is now really sensitive from the accutane. Also neutrogena power clear scrub you can get it at target it has saclyic acid instead of the common benzoyl peroxide. usually a scub of either saclyic or benzoyl should help but try both I respond worse to benzoyl.
neutrogena advanced solutions works pretty good as well thats what i use like every other day now and does pretty good. also diet and drinking water and exercise helps. but not sweat!
well hopes this helps you at all man
ps: smoking or getting wasted doesnt help at all for the skin either, at least in my experience :D
