View Full Version : ATTN: Ages 18-25, what do you besides smoke?
chrons

Okay, I come across this question a lot, maybe it's just me...
But I get asked "what are you into?" from either family/co-workers/new friends/etc
And I tend to think right away, 'besides smoke? i have not a clue...'
Now, I thought into it, and if you're around 18-25 you may also ponder this question, or do you?
I find it hard these days, and I feel I was born into the wrong era.
I love smoking, but besides work, it's all I do!
So out of curiosity what do you all do besides the usual, smoking, working, schooling, drinking?
I personally just like frisbee...
But I'm starting to think these days are growing worse and worse and everyone just sits on the computer??
Anyway, any help would be nice!

Damn... my list also is very short... let me think... man... actually there is not much else... i sleep a lot... i cook my own food... i spend more time than i wished at the internet... i think a lot... and smoke, of course. Interestingly, i only smoke once a day... but its the days best time!:rastasmoke:

I play lacrosse about 4 or 5 times a week with a pretty chill league, just a bunch of guys who like to get together and play, its not serious or anything. I try not to set aside time in my day just to smoke, i like to get high and continue my day uninterrupted.

at 22 i think i got in on the tail-end of riding bikes and playing running bases and all that shit. i was outside 24/7 it seemed like when i was like 5-to-16 years of age. then the internetweb came in and sort of took everyone over. nowadays middle-school age kids don't do much besides AIM, myspace and world of warcraft.
'pro gaming' is to blame i think. i cant tell ya the number of nerdburger younger siblings i meet that want to be 'pro gamers.'
kind of sad really but its a new era i guess...
and those kids aren't as bad as the huge groups of tight-jeans wearing emo scenester kids. theyre fcking EVERYWHERE in my town, groups of like 15 and 20 of them loitering outside wawa and burger king. the 12 year old girls around here dress all emo and wear clothes girls shouldn't really be wearing til theyre 18. dude I know how you feel, same here I can't even come up with a list! I don't know if it's a new era or not but I don't like it. And since I've moved around so much growing up I was never in one place long enough to get to know tons of ppl, just a select few who now, I know nothing about.
so... yea I feel like I'm getting old and doing nothing, while tons of excitement happens all around me. I guess if you have lots of $$ options are unlimited

my brother was 'paid to game' for a while... sponsored by nvidia and other large companies to compete in online tournaments.
blizzard/vivendi interactive awards the best WoW players with a million+ in cash and prizes every year in arena tournaments.
the catch? you can have no. life. whatsoever. outside of your room or wherever your computer is.
its like 'going pro' in anything else. you don't do much else besides it. but its much more accessible to your average person than real sports.

I was just thinking about this the other day, I admit that I spend too much time just smoking and sitting on the computer...
I go to school but I have a really easy semester this year, outside of school I play on 2 hockey teams, and snowboard in the winter. It is hard to be active and outside when it is very cold with lots of snow. I guess there is always indoor sports like racquetball to take up but there is no court close enough to where I live.
In summer I try and be a bit more active and get outside more, play frisbee, disc golf, golf, summer hockey, and wakeboard.
A lot of the time I do spend on my computer is watching TV shows or movies, so really it has just replaced my TV a lot of the time.

CyberAthlete Professional League.
I used to play in CPL and CAL. I've won money 3 years when I went to CPL. I haven't played since Counterstrike 2 came out and the original Counterstrike has become less popular.
There's something like 250k-300k in cash prizes each year I think.
I don't think you could make a career out of it. But if you want to make 20k split between 5 people and you've very good. VERY GOOD then go for it. You'll be playing against people from across the globe in Dallas, TX.
It was fine for my younger years, but now I make too much money to even waste my time.

Aside from smoking.. hrm. I'm a few years older than 25 (28 actually), but I still feel like I'm 18. So here we go.
1. Gardening: due to cannabis related activities I've actually discovered I like growing and learning about horticulture. It's going great.
2. Working out: 1-1.5 hours a day at the gym, either lifting weights or doing cardio.
3. Work on my telescope: I am in the middle of building a Dobsonian telescope at home out of just parts you can get online and at home depot. It's a fun little project.
4. Work on cars: I work on old 67 camaros to Audi's. I love cars so much. I haven't done a full on restore yet but as soon as I get my own garage then You better believe I'm going to start doing a tear down of something.
5. Play guitar, piano, drums. Sequence a track with my synth.
6. Further my math/science knowledge. I am a sort've undercover nerd of sorts. People always underestimate my intelligence because of the way I look/dress.
7. Go shopping. Yep.. I like to shop for clothes. Really though I like to shop for crap I shouldn't be buying. Like a new 65" LCD TV.
8. Watch TV: Mostly all I watch is Comedy Central, The History Channel, Discovery, and The Cartoon Network.
9. Read: I spend alot of time Reading. I'm a CCIE and studying to become a JNCIE. I also read alot of text books even though I'm not in college.
10. Call up friends just to hang with. Nothing wrong with just calling up some friends when you're bored.
11. Boxing: I used to box from age 15-23. I love boxing. I still go spar to this day about once a week. I'll hit the heavy bag and double ended bag throughout the week to practice punches and slips etc etc.
12. Think of stupid shit: ie: Building a computer inside of a broken dreamcast I have, or building an isolation chamber or grow room for a single plant out of some 48" T12's and a SonoTube (look it up).
13. Go to the Zoo: I love the zoo. I love animals.. nuff said.
14. Play with my Dog/Cat: I love my animals. When all else fails to entertain me or if I'm just wanting some company then I can always rely on them. They're just love so unconditionally. I love animals.
15. Video Games: Mostly RPG's or 2D fighters where I can lay down some mad combos. I'm good at Tekken/Soul Caliber type games also; they're just not my preferred.
16. Sex: I'd be lying if I said I didn't actively pursue this to make sure I get my Quint-Weekly Fill.
17. Work: Just ending it here. Tired of typing and I want to go vape up.

Dude, that's awesome. I'm working towards my CCNA now.
For me, in the winter I never get outside. I used to love it when I was a little kid but I can't stand the cold now. I usually play video games, watch tv, hang out inside with friends, or screw around with computers. In the summer though I try to get out more. I walk almost everywhere, go swimming, skateboarding. I gotta get my bike fixed so I can ride that around town when the weather is nice enough.

this happens to me all the time lol
the questions i hate are
what are you into
what do you do in your spare time
what do you enjoy doing
do you have any hobbies
My brain thinks
Weed
Smoke
Smoking
Getting Stoned
my mouth says
Nope
what do i do..
get stoned, make bongs, get drunk, go pubs, weights, sleep, eat, watch tv, play with my dog, grow weed occasionally and make things.
i think there are a few things that cause this problem with people our age tho
the internet is a main one if you ask me..well this is a big problem because unless you make videos for the internet because then people are like ohh you like to make films :) but if not, when people ask there not really much to say yo do..becuase theres tooo much to list and allot of it is often random things
also the fact that most things i do involve technology ( like computers, tv, xbox ect..)
ahhh i give up im not really sure what the problem is lol
i just no in the eyes of my parents & probation officer i have no hobbies or interests, and that not true!

people who dont smoke have the same problem too. they come home from work, put on the sitcoms and the computer, make some dinner and get to sleep so they can make it to work the next day. its a mundane cycle we all get stuck in sometimes. I think alot people have lost their passion for their hobbies, smoker or not.

my list would be sort of short if i just generalized, but im not going to here:
Going to the park, and :Swinging, making fun of the other people, people watching, talking loud about how emo its getting whilst near emo's. and thats at the park
Driving, really fast with loud music, even to work.
Fishing, want to fish high, havent yet though, in fact i just got my license and early season gear yesterday.
Chilling with friends, even if we are just sitting around its fun
eating
working
playing video games, i love guitar hero, atm im playing oblivion
listening to music, just laying on my bed chilling to some radiohead or something.
i got to parties, but since i really only like to drink captain morgan and im not 21 and i dont really ever buy alcohol seeing as i dont know anyone 21 i just smoke there, but chilling at parties.
Getting really fucked up.
computer use still takes up several hours everyday due to its ability to be on 24 hours a day. so in my free time really. when im not doing the above.

CCNA is cake. 4 weeks of solid study and you'll be fine. Maybe a simulator but I don't even think that's necessary as the CCNA is mostly memorization and not too many concepts etc etc.
I got my CCIE in R&S, I plan on trying to get another CCIE after I test for my JNCIE (probably another year or so of studying). I think I want to get something in security. Security is a very big field right now.

I will not own a TV because of the TV Trap!!!
Besides smoking, I run a lab, I do a lot of gardening including legal vegetables, I teach legal medical users in my area how to grow indoors, I love to go out for great food in funky hole in the wall places, I hang out with my funny bulldog, I own a multi-family house that requires lots of attention, I find time to spend with my friends fishing and exploring the outdoors, and I'm in the process of getting an organic produce/ sauces/ herb oils business up and running.
Arrgh. Sleep. That's one thing of which I do far too little!

Oh yeah? OH YEAH? All you badasses with your 5.0's and 5.7's are NOTHING compared to me and my MONSTER 3.8 '05 Buick Lesabre! :D
Before my kid was born, I had a Dodge Stealth VR4 with a twin turbo 3.0 that was pretty tricked out. It was kinda funny actually, I went and spent nearly $9k on a $4k car, and eventually had to sell it for about $6k because I needed the money. I installed suicide doors, brand new Mitsubishi 3000GT motor/transmission, D2 Racing coilover damper kit, custom exhaust & headers, racing wheels, 2500w stereo system, and more. I eventually had to sell one baby to be able to afford another one... I wanted to cry
I haven't completely lost my nerve, though. I've got a new GSX-R750 K7 sitting in my garage, so I can still race the big-blocks and Nopi street racers... I just can't do it on four wheels anymore.

I used to race DSMs. Eclipses/Talons not stealths/3000GT's. I used to love my car. It would destroy everything on the launch. All wheel drive with 400hp and 394 ft/lbs of torque.
I kept breaking transfer cases though. I got tired of breaking drive train parts and just sold the car.

Yup, mine was AWD, and was an absolute beast from the starting line. Really impressive for a 3.0... I miss that car dearly. Never got it out on a Dyno, but factory it was roughly 320 BHP, and I added quite a few options that bumped the HP considerably. I also shaved off as much weight as I could from the factory specs, and got it running exactly like I wanted it. Light and mean. Did I mention how dearly I miss that car?
I kept breaking transfer cases though. I got tired of breaking drive train parts and just sold the car.
I didn't race mine all that much, unless I was just feeling froggy. I was trying to turn it into a showcar, since you don't see too many Stealths/3000GTs with showcar status, but I had to sell it before it could become what I wanted it to. The only thing on that car that I consistently broke was the clutch.

Way too cold for me to be riding to Massachusetts, though. Plus, if I were going to ride to the Berkshires, I'd have to go tandem w/the missus. And I don't think she's quite ready for that long of a ride. (She starts getting cranky after several hundred miles, so, nearly a THOUSAND probably wouldn't be feasible!)
But hey, if you ever plan to ride down to Deal's Gap and the Tail of the Dragon... I'll gladly come and ride along with ya! I haven't been over there in a couple of years. We'll just have to make sure we don't add anything to the 'tree of shame'!

You've got to have interests outside of just getting high, or your life will become very dissatisfying very quickly. If you don't have a hobby outside of smoking, start easy --- maybe try pleasuring yourself.
I like gardening, astronomy, reading both fiction and non-fiction, almost anything sciencey, cooking, following news and politics, camping, hiking (or just walking around looking at things), having people over, making delicious cocktails, surfing "the Internets," and gettin' my sweet sweet lovin'.

daihashi: nice, I wanted a 93 cobra but settled for an 88 GT for now. I do agree 4.10's are a bit steep but with that extra .50 OD makes up. 1'st isnt too bad.
GaGrown: yeah I have decent power, and I can't even remember half the things in it and what I used. It sat for a long time during appartment times. I almost want to rip that motor out, and start over.
I like what I have but 10.5 compression doesn't leave me much room. I could maybe only safely thow 6lbs on it but wouldnt try it now. A blower would be nice, but all throttle no bottle for me!
Mr Clan: haha that's awesome, those buicks are heavy machines. I had a 92 cavalier and I beat a lot of ppl with that car when I don't think I should have. So I'll give your 3.8 the benefit of the doubt lol. It's too bad you had to sell n' stuff, I hope to never be in a position to need to do that, I would cry too.

Ha ha! When I turned 30, my hippie van broke down, and I ended up getting a Buick Regal from someone I knew for next to nothing. And because I was broke at the time I really had to take it. I don't attach a lot of my identity or self-image to my car, but man, I felt old tunring 30 and driving around in that Regal, listening to AM radio, because that's all it had. The turn signal was almost silent too, and it wouldn't cancel after a left turn, so I would find myself going down the street with my blinker on miles after making a turn. It's like I was instantly aged by 40 extra years.
When it got time to sell it, the only people interested were really old white guys and young hispanic dudes who wanted to turn it into a low rider. I sold it to a Mexican guy from San Jose who was really excited to get it. I always wished I could have seen it later with the hydraulics, the sound system, and the purple paint!

But you know what, daihashi is right...we're getting old :( 10 years is a long time to look back on. but you really know you're gettin old when you're drivin a buick :D:jointsmile:
lolol, HEY, wait a minute.... I think I resent that statement! :S3:
And, by all means, feel free to doubt the awesome power of the Buick... because that power certainly is not there! :D I have trouble sometimes passing the old biddies that get in front of me and drive 10mph under the speed limit. But, I will give it one thing, it's gotta be one of the most comfortable cars I've ever driven.
...it also has the exact same 2500w stereo system (all Alpine) that my old Stealth had, so it's got some level of coolness to it. The 'coolness' just isn't in the looks or horsepower anymore. It can still make ya go deaf, though... which I guess has its merits.
Take care.

My buddies are always asking me when I'm going to 'pimp' my car out with 20" rims, tinted windows, and all that jazz... but I think you're right, I must be getting old because I have no intentions of doing anything else to it. It's got a Gran Touring suspension package already (it's the Limited edition), and something called StabiliTrak electronic stability system, which makes it an EXTREMELY comfortable car to ride in. I'll eventually be buying a '67 Mustang Fastback, when I can really afford to pump some money into one, and I'll have a mean car in my garage again... but for the time being, I'm happy putting around in my little Buick. Spring time is here, so I'll soon be getting my adrenaline fixes from the Gixxer again!
And you're right, I'd be lost without my stereo and XM. Sick stereo systems have been my passion also since I was old enough to drive a car, and that probably won't change until I finally go deaf! It's a little crazy listening to talk radio stations in it though, especially if the broadcaster has a deep booming voice... it becomes a full-on back massage at volume level 12! Go past 20, and you're just asking for bleeding eardrums. :D

My biggest piece of advice for US129: Know the limitations of your vehicle, and ABIDE by them! There's no room for careless mistakes on that road. In a few places, if you happen to run off the road and there's no guardrail there, you're DEAD. Well, at least if you're riding a motorcycle, but I'd imagine you'll still be in a world of hurt if it were to happen in a Subaru. Many of the turns have real accommodating cambers, though, and it's generally a lot of fun. A few can be tricky, so just be sure whoever is driving doesn't get too cocky, because the off-camber S turns can really sneak up on you if you go into them too fast. But, it's generally the idiots who try to push their limits that get injured/killed... so if you drive reasonably and with self-restraint, it's a great road to be on and isn't as dangerous as some people make it sound. They've also been trying to cut down on the numbers of semi-trucks that are allowed to go through there, which definitely makes things safer.
I don't know of any lodging areas over there, because it's only a few hours from where I live. I generally just make a day of riding through the Dragon and maybe up and around Cherohala Skyway. But just Google "Deals Gap" and you'll find tons of sites that have listings for nice hotels around that part of NC. There are also some really good Southern style restaurants around there. If you get the chance, look up Lynne's Place, Sweetwater BBQ, and Sweet Magnolia Restaurant... I think they're all in Robbinsville, NC. GREAT places to eat, but they can be pretty busy on weekends, so beware! Also, I don't remember exactly where it is, but ask some of the locals around there where "the Overlook" is. There's a pull off where you stop and get an absolutely breathtaking view of mountainsides with a gorgeous river flowing through it. It's especially awe inspiring if you happen to catch it when the sun's going down... and/or when the leaves are changing color in the Fall.
Best of luck 'slaying the Dragon', I'm sure you're going to have a great time. Just be careful, and you and your boyfriend will love it! Take care.

i know alot of people that dont do anything besides school, work , and smoke. It's pretty pathetic, how fun could your life be if the highlight of it is getting high. i like herb just as much as the next stoner, but if the only good thing in your life is getting stoned you seriously need to step back and take a look at how boring your living your life. Getting high isn't even that great, like yeah it's fun, but not fun enough to let it be the bearer of all your happiness.
If you live life just to get high and work and go to school, then your gonna die without having lived at all.
im 18 and the main thing i do in life is skateboard, but i also like playing the guitar, scratching on my turntables, painting, drawing, writing poetry/songs, talking to people(whether i know them or not), video games can be alright if you have a bunch of friends playing them with you, making clothes, partying, mountain biking, watching movies, snowboarding etc etc.

especially when you take them outside, they look like they are prowling around on the hunt.
People ask me all the time "what do you do besides smoke weed?" And I begin to wonder why they ask me. Is it because they're interested in getting to know me? Half the time it isn't. I barely give a response. Something like, "I play video games" or when they ask "do you work?" I'll say it's 'against my principles.' Usually that will change their minds about talking to me and if that doesn't do it then the indifference seen on my face will.
My point is in the idea that what you do does not define who you are. Frankly I'm amazed every day that there are so many people out and about! So many people with so very much to do. I get exhausted just watching!

QUOTE]
you make a good point about working. But when it comes to what you do, overall, not just one section of what you do, like work, is who you are. Some people say they are a dentist, if they like dentistry and do it to help people, it makes them a good person for doing so, but only because they do it different from other dentists. Like this, the caring dentist will be extra gentle, while more thourough, to get everything, and be gentle to the patient. while the non-caring dentist will just scrape at your teeth and probably make you bleed and not care, bad dentist. Some people go on walks, some people play with their children, or deliver food to nursing homes.
People are what they do, the only difference is how you do what you do, if youre a good dentist then you are respected for it, because that is what you are, kind. And this is not about money, because you are not your money, your money is just a representation of your contributions to society, and having more is not what makes you a better person either, its how the money is spent, even if it goes to you indulging in something you dont need, its what you do, and how you do it that decides whether or not your a good person, and if it helps you be who you are, then that is what it is for.

I have two different lifestyles that seem polar opposites...the only thing they have in common is music and smoking.
in London (where I'm studying)- going out a lot (indie clubs, raves), gigs, rugby, and listening to a hell of a lot of music (i'm studying music management so i practically study genres and albums and shiz)...and apart from normal studying/internet that's literally it
in the states- satellite tv, food, gardening, playing my guitar and bass (couldn't be arsed bringing them to the uk), and a lot of swimming/sunbathing (was just home in Houston the past 2 weeks and I got a good amount of sun)

HAHAHA theres a Simpsons episode where they show Grandpa Simpson's face from a newspaper clipping that he's trying to pass as a picture for his driver license, and the newspaper headline is "Old Man Yells At Cloud", and the picture is him yelling and shaking his fist at this cloud.

people who dont smoke have the same problem too. they come home from work, put on the sitcoms and the computer, make some dinner and get to sleep so they can make it to work the next day. its a mundane cycle we all get stuck in sometimes. I think alot people have lost their passion for their hobbies, smoker or not.

All of these are all too true for me. I sold my TV a while back and it was the best thing I ever did. I would only watch DVDs, but even 1 per day is a shitload of wasted time.
Now-a-days I work on my art stuff, sell electronics and such online (just to pay the bills), write, and most importantly do everything I can to help save the environment. That includes going out with my friends and talking to anyone that will listen to a ragtag punk.
The best part is I can be stoned while I do all of that!

i have been working with 3d animation for about 2 years now and i'm planning on going to school for it and making a career out of it. i actually multitask, i smoke weed and watch tv and work on my computer at the same time for about 2-3 hours a day. the rest of the time i'm either working or just hanging out with friends.
