ZOMG! WHAT DID YOU DO?

Just kidding. It's called whorled phyllotaxy. You could google it or search the forums for "whorled phyllotaxy" to learn a bit more about it.

Curious...what's the difference between whorled phyllotaxy, and being a trifoliate?

I've seen them both, trifoliate and whorled phyllotaxy, used interchangeably on a couple cannabis related sites, but pot farmers don't always use correct horticulture terminology. So.. I don't know really. Unless someone can enlighten us I'm going to say that they're both the same thing.

I always thought whorled phyllotaxy was a more of a genetic anomaly, and trifoliate was a characteristic leafset for certain plants. (Obviously not cannabis.) I'm probably wrong, though... where's Stinky? I bet she could clear this right up. She's able to explain these things with big fancy words, using logic and research... all I can do is guess. ;)

I'm going to chime in and say that trifoliate is a subset of whorled. It just specifies how many petioles are at each of the nodes. But I'm not sure either. I just use 'whorled' and call it good. It's halfway moot anyway, since they grow out of it at sexual maturity.
On the plus side, if you pinch the plant BEFORE it matures, you get a beautiful 3-branched main stem structure on the finished plant, with a nice flatter top than just a pair of main leads.

you mean i should prune it before it gets to big?how big? it has 2 sets of 3's already.

After it unfolds 5 sets of adult leaves, pinch the growing tip that would have been the 6th.

whorled is what its called...trifoliate is more describing plants that are supposed to have 3 leaves...i got one this grow, and topped it, got 3 heavy mains, and like 6 laterals!!!
