i got to feel a very fine peice of hemp paper today, and i bought a stack of 500 sheets for about a dollar. (go canada!)

but i got home and started writing and noticed that when my hand rubbed the sheet it became a bit fuzzy and felt like money.

SO, i took a peice cut it to the size of a dollar and put it in my pocket and walked around, washed it, and pulled it back out.

the paper was beaten and looked alot like a dollar, so i drew ben franklin on it and put some 100's on it and put it on the table.

but could the american dollar really be printed on hemp or a hemp/fabric blend?

I'm sure it could. Paper for $s are a mix of paper and cotton today. Hemp $s would probably last longer and be cheaper to produce.

I think you should read the Emperor Wears no Clothes
You will find that it used to be law that money be printed on hemp.

the hemp plant itself could be used as money in early America. You could pay taxes with it.

Actually if you had land, there was a law that said you had to grow hemp on it.

Bigfatpothead has the right of it, it used to be law that farmers had to grow hemp. Even Thomas Jefferson grew it, as well as the original G-Dubya (George Washington), but I could be wrong on that account. Hell, the Declaration of Independence was written on hemp paper. Sweet, delicious irony....

It's actually from the "skin" of the stems. The roots are just... roots.

as far as I know, that is not so. I couldn't find anything on wikipedia either but I only glanced through roughly at certain bits.
But I have read that Canada prints its money on hemp. Correct me if I'm wrong.
