My setup is a 100w CFL Spotlight with 2 comp fans exhaust and one larger fan for intake.
Everythings been going good, I am doing this as a hobby/experiment and so I do not expect a 10 lb yield from a plant.
Strain:Kahuna
Age: 4 weeks
Light Cycle: 17/5
Nutes:Superthrive, terracycle foliar feeding
Soil:FF OF
So I come back from work one day and I open the door and it smells dank. You can smell it all the way down the hall. I have an Ona-block and this is only one plant that isnt even into flowering. Its more of a fruity herb-ish smell that is very mild but its very very distinct and I'm only on my 5th node on 4 weeks with 7 point leafs starting. I cant imagine what would happen during flowering. Anyways enough rambling. What are some ways I can control the smell? I am thinking about ozone gen. but that too has a smell and can harm the plants and is relatively expensive for a very very small grow.
I put this one plant outside for the moment even though it is ~50-60 degrees outside.
I am basicaly thinking about the future since I have 2 other plants about 1 wk. Thanks. What are some solutions to control this? Any response would be appreciated.

increase negative pressure to the grow room at all times-get a inline duct fan 40 bucks and cut a hole in the ceiling-mount the fan to the hole and then plug it in run it all the time-it will pull air out of you grow area at all times from your (I guess) home. This way no matter what stage your grows at air-smell is always exhuasted out through your grow room duct fan into the attic. If done properly-you will not be able to smell the grow untill you enter and close the door. Also if you grow organic-bat shit-worm shit -bird shit kelp puke nutri-soup smells to high hell for at least two days into a nute watering-you want to vent that anyway. The high negative pressure grow area also helps insure proper co2 for a small grows-always fresh air-happy plants-I might suggest a bunch more light too---the t5 lamps do ok for a single plant and great for vegatative-

Ok i think the point was to not spend money for a large grow :)
Also, it sounds like he lives in an apartment building so breaking into the duct work is probably not a good idea.
Honestly Bvarian, i wold go for the ozone gen. I have an ozn jr and it rocks my socks. I was pretty stinky too just going into flowering (at 5 weeks), and one of those puppies eliminates the smell easily. I also have pets and it knocks out that smell, so its used for my whole house (abot 1000 sq ft.) It does have that ozoney smell to begin with, but since I started flowering I think the particles are breaking up so fast hitting the stinkiness that I cant smell the ozone now.
Its a lil pricey, like 80 bucks, but imo you cant beat that deal with a stick. On the cheaper side, you can go with a diy carbon scrubber, but youd have to rerig your exhaust to do that. I would get rid of your input fan like Rev recommended, they tend to mess up the pressure, jst change it to an output and add some passive intakes.
Either way thats just my 2 cents. ;)

how is the 17/5 working for ya?
You have to manually turn the lights off and on, or some crazy cool timer?
Your plants sound quite well for 4 weeks..
Where did you get the 100w CFL spotlight, that sounds pretty cool, I would like one.
best wishes

Yeah, i might get in some deep shit for puncturing a hole in my wall.
Anyways one of my friends came over and immediately commented about how she thought a skunk had died or something :wtf:
carinia- do you have a link to this ozone generator? 80 sounds great, but would i probably have to put it outside of the grow room? so that the plants are not harmed...maybe by the entry door? Also i heard that it isnt healthy for humans...so i might think about keeping it on a timer cuz i sleep in the same room.
melodious fellow- Well I dont have 18 hrs that i can keep it on continuously...i have a digital timer. Home Depot sells them..like $60, great for a small grow.with the computer fans, the temps stay at a constant 78 C

I'll wait for the nicer months to come...dang the weathers been so fucked up lately.
Anyhoo, thanks for the input guys.

Hey man, I'm having the same problem as you and was about to post but your topic is here. I live in an apartment and have two in my closet . I bought one of the carbon scrubbers but the fan is obnoxiously loud, just about as obnoxious as the small light leaks that make it look like a sun is in my closet during dark times, and the blazing odor that seeps out of my room. The dryer sheets sounds innovative. I work a part time job at home depot and I remember seeing these filter things that you plug into an outlet and I thoguht about buying like 5 of those and throwing them in my closet. If I figure something good out I will post here.

Yeah but i wouldnt know how to hook it up to the carbon filter and finding one that fits and such. Im not too crafty in that sense. And maybe im using the thing wrong but i actually tried it for a few days and much of the smell remained. I just sat it upwards with the fan blowing.

an outdoor extension cord is what you need to hook it up.(b/c it has a ground wire.
just cut it and attach it to the wires from the fan.(if it doesnt work, flip the wires...only got two options)
good luck
