What up Canna.com peoples??
So this is my first serious grow attempt, and I must say I'm pleased with the progress. The seeds were BlueBerry F2 from Joey Weed. I transplanted the 2 strongest of 4 plants last night (transplant was very successful). Plants have recieved no nutes other than what's already in the soil. [Miracle Gro Moisture Control. N=0.21 P=0.07 K=0.14] I am watering 200ml of distilled water daily.
----------------
Here's my setup:
20 gallon fish tank, lined w/ foil, in a small closet w/ white walls.
(1) 42w/150w equiv. GE soft-white "Spiral" 2700lumens. Color temperature 2700 K.
Small fan (runs when lights are on)
Brinks Mechanical timer. Set to 18/6 (On a 06:00 am Off at 12:00am)
----------------
I know my current setup is minimal to say the least, but I am building a nice box, which will be painted white inside, I know foil's terrible. Also will be adding 3? more lights.
One question I have is: Do I need to change to different lights for flowering or will it be ok if I just add more of the lights like I already have?
Any other advice or comments are always welcome.
Peace.......Tim

Hi there!
It seems that you're are growing with a lamp that has right lumens for flowering. If I were you I'd buy couple of daylight ~6500lumens lamps for veg and then change them back to 2700lumen lamps for flowering.
Good luck with your grow!

I mean 2700K for flowering and ~6500K for veg. Kelvins not lumens.

So.....after sitting here for several hours now reading about LST, I do belive I'm going to give it a go and see how it works for me. Is this (day 18) a good time to do it?? If so I'm probably going to do it today along with a light feeding of Fish Fertilizer.

Ok, so under the wathcful eye of my father-in-law (who has grown many a weed plant), I went ahead and did the LST today, along with a 1/4 strength feeding of Alaska Fish Emulsion. I'll put up some pics in the morning, but I think it all went well.

So the first day after I LST'ed the growth slowed down substantially, BUT, they began reaching for the light after only about 4 hours. Yesterday and today however, I noticed quite a bit of growth and they both seem to be very happy now.
Here's some pics from today (day 21):

I will put up some better close ups tomorrow, but my lights are off at the moment, and I don't dare disturb the sleeping ladies. :weedpoke:

perfect time to start LST on those plants, I just did that to some of my plants and the secondary growth exploded and started consuming my plant. My grow is also about a month in so keep the log updated, look forward to seeing your harvest.
Also, one thing is you want to maximize the area for your roots to grow and not having soil all the way to the top of the pot is losing a good amount of root space. I also started feeding my plants a fish and seaweed emulsion from Neptune's Harvest and the plants love it.
Here's a picture of one of my plants that I started LST.

Hey KindBlunt....I appreciate the kind words and the advice. Do you think it would be difficult to transplant at this point? I was already kind of worried about having room for roots as it is because I'm only in one gallon pots right now. My first transplant was pretty easy and stress free so I'm probably worried about nothing. I think I'll end up stepping them up to 3 gallon pots within the next couple of days, so I don't have to disturb them too much during flowering. And I'll definitely take your advice and fill the pots just about to the top too. I appreicate the help, and good luck with your grow, your plants are looking great.

18 days is old enough to start feeding, as you've done. Personally, I love the Neptune Harvest fish and kelp fertilizer products. I think you could strengthen the dose to 1/2 strength next week and full strength from then on.

Some close ups of the tops I just took:

Thanks Shov for the tip, I was actually planning on upping the dose this week, but I wasn't sure by how much. I'll take your advice and feed 1/2 strength for a week as well.

So I was reading around about Topping, and I do believe it's something I would like to try. My question is...Is it too late to top, or can it be done anytime during veg?? Thanks ahead of time to anyone who can help. :joint1:

I got a question, I hope it's not a stupid one.....My father in law told me today that if I sprinkle some coffee on top of my soil it will add some nutrients, and also will help control pests. Has anyone tried this method and does it work? I read in the FAQ's that coffee is a good source of N, but that it's acidic, so I'm pretty skeptical about trying it on my plants. But I thought maybe if I got a second opinion that said it was ok I just might try it.
btw...For anyone who can help, I'm still researching, Topping and FIMing, and I don't realy know which would be best for my situation (which is that I'm trying to keep these plants as short and compact as I possibly can), or if it's a good time to do it now or is it too late?? Thanks for any help.

Ok, so I went ahead with the FIM this morning, so hopefully all goes well.
Here's a pic of plant #1, can anyone tell me if my FIM job looks right?

Sickstring,
Your looking good, I wish I read this earlier, I would have said just do LST. I also use MG moisture control and a few things to be aware of is watch your soil ph. It has a tendancy to rise over time from nute and salts buildup. I counter this by watering with water and nute mixes adjusted a ph of 6 to 6.5.
Back to LST here is a current pic of a mature plant that was LSTed. This should give you an idea what LST will do. I only LST no FIM or topping.

So as far as an update on progress since the FIM, I would say things are going nicely. I am seeing little spots where the new growth is coming up again. And since the FIM side growth has already increased by a good percentage. I will put a up a pic or two in the next couple of days to show the progress.
In other news, instead of the 2700k CFL, I am now using 6500k, as I hear these are better for the veg. phase. I will be switching back to 4x 42w/2700k for flowering.

Well, I spent the entire day yesterday trying to figure out why Canna.com wouldn't let me upload my pics, but it turns out it was just a problem with my desktop PC, and all the whille here sat the laptop........
Anyways... here finally are the photos. Notice the difference in the sidegrowth over just a couple of days. (from DAY 27) :
Pic#1 - - New setup. Much nicer than a fishtank on the floor if you ask me.
Pic#2 - - Plant 1 side growth.
Pic#3 - - Plant 1 top close-up/FIM
Pic#4 - - Plant 2 side growth

Ok, I added more light sincethe pics yesterday....here's the scoop.
[3] 26w 6500k daylight CFL : 1600lumens/each
[1] 42w 2700k warm white CFL : 2700lumens
Total 7500 lumens.
All I have to say is....Damn that's a bright closet.

So I am having an issue with water and I wasn't sure what it is, and I think my problem is that I have 1 plant in a Plastic pot and one in Terra cotta, so, I guess I shoud put 'em both in plastic.
I'm gonna fertilize full strength along with the transplant.
Peace...
p.s. new pics coming tomorrow as well. secondary growth has REALLY taken off witht the new lights.

So...no photos at the moment, but I figured I would jump on here and put up a quick update.
The plants seem quite happy about the transplant and I'm happy that they're both using the same amount of water now...much easier  .
Side growth has really picked up thanks to a change in light placement. I will post a few pics in a little while.

So I haven't been on in a while to post n update, but today is day 44 and things are going good. Yesterday I LST'd again; by taping a small weight to a metal hook and hooking it around the plant at about the point where the 4 branches are shooting out from where I FIMmed. Once the plant drooped to where I wanted I just taped the end of the hook to the pot. It only took about 2 hours for the plants to start reaching back towards the light this time, so I was pleased. I have also moved my plants for a final time, my last spot was running out of headroom way too quick, so now they're in the flower closet, and that's where they'll finish veg. all the way through flower. At least now I can use the small spot to start some more plants. I'll post some pics later when I get some camera batteries.
Peace...
