i am interested in buying a vaporizer but i am afraid it might be a waste of money. i smoke around 3 grams a day n haven't gotten "stone" in ages. now i use pot to help with anxiety and sleep issues but i am noticing that pot is doing very little these day to help. I tryed a cheap vaporizer and found it to be a waste (one of those heat plate w/ a dome type). i have a little extra cash and wondering if getting a vaporizer would help

Vaporizing is well worth it for a lot of people, including me. A lot easier on the lungs, especially if you've been smoking for 20 or 30 years. The effect is a little different with vapor. Part of the effect with smoking is a good dose of couchlock, and a large part of that is due to poisons produced by high temperature and combustion. So vapor is a cleaner high.

A lot of vape fans say they use a lot less than with smoking. Since I can't tolerate much smoke, I actually use more now with vaping. I've heard some say their first experience with a good vape was the highest they've ever been. I well remember mine. :vap_smiley: I know I'll never miss smoking, but everybody's different.

I think you do need some kind of motivation to switch from smoking. It takes a little more time and effort. But if you can afford 3 g. a day, I think you can afford to try a vaporizer. Who knows? You might love it. ;)

I was in your same situation of being unhappy with the plate design (though it works great for kif and hash)

I bought a cheap digital one on ebay and I had never been so high in my life. I really like it and will probably cut back on certain types of smoking (IE large bongs) as this will be my at-home setup probably.

The most important thing you can do is RESEARCH! There is tons and tons of good info on this forum and abroad. Even google is great.

I did a crap load of research and there are definitely a few vaporizers that are above the rest. Pay attention to longevity, quality of product, and avoid the ones that are "gimics". Look for something with good materials and a good warranty in case something goes wrong.

Good luck

the way I looked at it was this

I could buy a vapor bros for like 200 (at local headshop)
or I could buy 3 of these cheap ones
and then they should probably last at least as long (3 vs 1)

I'd avoid the cheap, made in China box vapes. You can't trust how the guts are put together and with what. The VaporBuddy (VaporGenie rip off), made in China, has been found to be painted with lead paint, in the bowl area too. :(

Just to put things into perspective. Your whole house if full of formaldehyde. That stuff is really bad for you and it's in 90% of all furniture made and about 1/2 of all construction materials.

It is hard to make a vape purchase sight unseen but I've been really quite happy with my cheap chinese "Vapor-Tech" though longevity is truly a concern. I figure that if this blows up, I'll get a nicer one and thus have a spare whip. Though there's only like 6 parts electronically in this, you could probably replace the worn out pieces.

So your reasoning is that since formaldehyde vents from resins and glues in pressed wood products, we should just not worry about other potential poisons in our environment? I have to breathe city air every day but I'm not going to make it worse by standing behind a running vehicle and sucking in exhaust fumes.

I would recommend the Volcano Vaporizer. I've had it for a couple years now, and still don't have a legitimate complaint. The cleaning and replacing the bags are a pain, but that goes for anything you would use.

You will get a different kind of high. My first time vaporizing was like I hadn't toked in months. However, just like smoking, I eventually became used to it. So, don't buy it just for the return of the high feeling. The only way, which I am aware of, to get more of that high feeling back is to stop doing it for a while. That's what I'm doing now. I found myself just vaping through all my stash, and feeling less and less.

You should get it for your health, though. Since getting mine, I don't have the phlegm that I had with smoking. You will get more THC out of vaping, since you're not burning the herb. Best of all, your lungs will be in better shape.

It is a big investment to get the Volcano. But, I've yet to hear anyone have a legitimate complaint (other than cost) about the Volcano. My local shop can't seem to keep them in stock.

There's so many more things that can kill you statistically than the fumes from furniture or smoking aluminum. Also, I don't think you can mess up your health much more than living in a major city when it comes to fumes. Unless of course you live next to Alcoa.

I think that fume-aphobia is like germ-aphobia in that it's slightly unreasonable and mostly emotional. You're already puting a mind-altering substance into your body. Of COURSE that will have some adverse effects.

My point is that it's just not that big of a deal.

"fume-aphobia"? OK. I don't care to get into name calling. Let's just say we disagree on the difference between common sense and phobia.

wow, I was reading OPs post and it's just like my situation. anxiety/sleep I've tried the same heat plate one with the glass dome but I actually got super-high, but it was an OLD vape and it took like 15 minutes to heat up, so I wasn't happy with it.I finally caved in after a year of thinking about it, I just ordered the new 2008 Vapir One V5, and it'll be here in the morning. So, talk to you tomorrow.

yea you're going to be a LOT happier with the modern design.

I didn't mean to call you a name. Agree to Disagree is definitely the best policy on this. As for common sense, maybe it makes more sense to stress about far more pressing matters than the air that you're breathing in a congested city surrounded by lead-painted walls.

So I see you don't agree to disagree. Had to get in another one? :upsidedow You take whatever you need 'cause stressed I'm not.

if you can afford it get a volcano it wont let you down i smoke soo much a day a year on an its still getting me lean. when all else fails it always does the job i smoke about 5-6 grams a day in the volcano only and every day i get up its like having my first ever volcano
definatly worth the money i spent in fact im thinking of spending another £350 on upgrading to the digital volcano

we'll just call it even for the common sense remark you made

Actually, there's really nothing wrong with being concerned with what you put in your body...I just try to play devil's advocate.

I agree, get a volcano, I would rather smoke from a volcano than any vaporizer, although the flavor and high seems to be a LOT different when using a vaporizer, the volcano WRECKS you nicely. And your friends will ALWAYS have a blast with a volcano in the room...guaranteed

If you can afford to spend $539 on a Volcano, go for it. It has ease of use, reliability, precision, and a rock solid company behind it. But don't let anyone give you the idea you'll be getting any more efficiency with bag use than with the herbalAire for $250. I've been using mine for well over a year. If anything it's more efficient than the 'cano, easier to clean, cheaper and easier to make multiple bags, and unlike the 'cano, it does direct draw as well. Yeah, it fills bags slower than the 'cano, but I counter that by making smaller bags and just putting a new bag on for the same bowl load. You do have a separate air pump so there's more 'clutter' to the setup. And the warranty is 2 yrs. vs. 3 for the 'cano Classic (Digit is 2 yrs).Just another way to go if cost is an issue. And of course if you don't like the idea of sucking your vapor from a crinkly bag, you don't want either of these vapes. ;)
