I started growing these a bout 4 months ago. Let me know what you think. Strarted the grow with flouresent plant grow light and another plant grow light. They now are under 2 cfls soft white = to 120 watts and a 100 watt halogen light. This is my first try any advice would be great.

I am also having another problem that some one might be able to help me with. I just added to 100 watt halogen light. I have had 3 brown spots on the fan leaves. They are all a little smaller then a dime. Is this nutrient deff or the light too close

Hi lovgreen and welcome to the forums.

I'll start by saying your plants look pretty good, nice and healthy.

Second, I would loose the Halogen light. The light that it emits is
innefficient for growing plants. Also Halogens get real hot and will cause you nothing but trouble.

My advise would be to invest in a 3500k CFL, sylvania calls them Bright White. You can get these for about $5 or less, I use the 100w equivalent.
I use the 6500K for Vegging.

GOOD LUCK

Halogen lights put off way too much heat. Replace those halogens with 8 more 23 watt CFL's. Less heat, probably more light in the correct spectrum and slightly less wattage.

I believe one of the first symptoms of heat stress is the leaves curling upwards. Brown spots could be from iron toxicity or maybe from what I've read calcium deficiency or boron deficiency.

I'm not very good at diagnosing problems like this yet but I'm trying. Just thought I'd throw out something incase it helps.

Do you have any pics of the problem?

Thanks alot for the help. I waited for like 3.5 -4 months before starting the 12/12 cycle under new light. I didnt have the money for nice light so i used these. I first bought the bright white cfls but read that the soft white had more red light. The bright white however had more lumens. What type of light are u recommending i buy? Just another of the same one i already have?

Also what would be your guys opinion of pruning the fan leaves or cliping the top?

No pruning during flowering unless it's absolutely necessary. Trimming can cause undue stress to the plant which can either cause its growth to slow down, or cause it to hermie... neither of which are desirable in flowering.

Good luck!

I already had cut off the top of the smaller the two plants because i had saw it on the youtube video. I think it was a bad idea. It doesnt appear to be growing back very well

cutting the tips makes it split into 2, but adds extra time to recover itself. easier to have an extra plant really...

lights: soft white is good, but warm whites are even better. ditch that halogen and buy another 4 warm white bulbs, since you should have 3 per plant ideally.

also, make sure the cfls are within 2-4 inches of the plant to ensure maximum light reaches it.

PS: expect your plant to gain 1-2 feet in height during the first month of flowering, if not more. looks healthy tho, good luck!

browns spots could also be cause by water spots on them with that halogen on them will burn em up.

Are you using the halogen as a heat source or a light source primarily?
While they throw heat and may be useful in a pinch to raise temps in a chilly closet, their light spectrum is less than ideal for growing plants.

You are also going to want to go into a pot of fresh dirt that is at least 4 gallons for that nice big plant! It looks to be over 2 feet already so go for a 5 gallon pot with great drainage to give it room to finish. More root space means better bud production.

The plant looks quite healthy overall.

Thanks alot for all of the help. This plant is 3 foot 4 inches tall. I was thinking i needed to get more dirt or something. The dirt looks kinda shity actulaly. So i should get a five gallon bucket n fill it to the top w dirt?

Can neone tell me where i could get some flowering fertalizer? And what exact type would be best. I dont want to risk burning these plants. Right now i have only used miracale grow 1 time every 2 weeks and follow exact directions.

5 gallons would be great for the plant. as for fertilizers, id suggest that you buy yourself some kelp liquid and worm casting and do an organic fertilizing. (you can also use guanos and bonemeals, but thats gonna really take it up a notch from miracle grow-the kelp is pretty straightfoward)

they will double that for sure, triple that probably

with smaller plants, 2-3X is pretty regular, but i think its less extreme as they get larger. (verify?) either way, expect 2-4 feet of upwards growth, possibly more. (and use warm white flourescents)

I took these pics today. This is in between the 2 and 3 week of flowering. As u can c in one of the pics i show where i hurt the plant it seems to be dooin well. I also took a pic of where i croped the top. There are now 2 top buds growing. This plant does look as good as the other. I just used some seeds i had nothing specail so i gues they are diff type of plants. I got them into 4.5 gallon buckets and picked up miricale bloom formula. Any advice or tips would be greatly welcomed.
