"not sure what soil it is in it is in the dirt i got it in." :wtf:
What is the pH? The leaves are looking pretty sickly. I don't grow in soil but your tips are burnt for sure and they look twisty and dark. Not good signs. Here's a link you should bookmark for the future:

let me better explain.so i dont look so stumpy.
i bought this clone like the way you see it, 3 days b4 that pic it was in a ebb flow system to root in a rockwool cube. once it was potted he sent it to me. so i have no idea what soil it is in as in a nutrient added soil or non nutrients.ph seems good. but i dont know what it was b4 i got it.it has good bud sites and all and now that it is getting only water the leaves are untwisting but the purple is still there . is this a sign of new growth or a defficenecy?(sp)
all the grow guides i have read on problems i didnt see anything on purple stems other than late in flowering.
and yeah i read that it is very good guide. there are several on here that are good opie yutts has one like that too.

my god. now im upset. 3 of the top ten plant problem posts (possibly more) are about purple stems.
either a mod has to group all of these into a massive one, or people really have to search before posting

i have read but i get 3 different answers
lack of phosphorous- dont know specifics of where it came from,to guess on that one.
cooler temps-yes it has been cooler since i had it but it was that way when i got it dont know the temp it was at b4.
close to flower stems change color-this one has pistils all over it so it was close to flower , and the plant it was taken from went to flower after these were cut off .so it could be any of the 3 im guessing.it is beggining to turn green at the bottom of the stem so i guess it's getting better.

A couple of things to keep in mind when trying to diagnose reasons for purple stems include: Potassium deficiency can sometimes cause it; low daytime/nighttime temperatures or big temp differences between the days/nights can cause it; genetics is sometimes the reason but most of the plants I've heard doing it genetically were 'purple' strains in the first place; I've seen it personally in a few strains either during early seedling stages, and late in flowering - which I guess is simply a maturity issue; and the list goes on.
Try to maintain a soil pH of around 6.5-6.8, and if you're going to veg it out a bit, make sure you've got a good Nitrogen source on hand to help it grow strong after the roots are established. Clones can be finicky at first, so don't force too much growth initially... they're not going to do anything until the roots allow them to. If problems get worse, try to post pictures of the symptoms you're seeing and also fill out as much of the Troubleshooting Form (http://boards.cannabis.com/plant-problems/127058-troubleshooting-form-yay-you-know-you-wanted-one.html) as you can.
Best of luck.

I AM searching right NOW.... Most of what I find in cannabis.com is nasty unhelpful remarks. Thanks so much. Most other sites are somewhat better.
Oc.
then, you should probably go to your preferred sites :D good luck
