Hello,

I have a Rubbermaid grow setup that I built following smokedoja's article at Cannabis Culture forums.

I've let the box run and it gets pretty warm in the closet, but not too hot. I've read that too much humidity will ruin a plant; how about too little?

I have seeds for Lowryder 2 and Sativa spirit. Now, my plans are to grow the Lowryder 2, right now, for a supply of smoke. And I can get three seasons growing outdoors with it. The Sativa Spirit is going to be specificially for a guerrilla grow starting in April. But more on that when the time comes...

The problem is, Rhino Seeds did send my seeds, they seem viable... but they didn't fucking label them. So I have no way of knowing which is Lowryder 2 and which is the Sativa Spirit. One of the plastic containers had "PP" scratched on it. I have no idea what that could mean. So I'm going to take a chance and plant two or three of the seeds, I think, and hope for the Lowryders. If not, I'll let them veg for as long as I can and then transfer outdoors.

I would like to use an organic soil mix, but I'm not sure what would work best for Lowryders. They don't have much of a veg state so what sort of organic fertilizer/soil mix can I use? And, what size pots should I start with? Transplanting Lowryders stunts the growth, I've heard, so I'd rather have them start in a container thats large enough. Then again, I am limited on space.

Suggestions?

PP means Power Plant. An African sativa dominant strain. Top plant. Good outdoors and in.

Humidity does matter if it is too low because you force the plants to transpire (release moisture through their leaves) in an attempt to raise the humidity itself. It won't do damage but It will mean your plant is working less on growth of bud formation as it's wasting it's time transpiring.

As for the other questions I don't know cos I'm still a newb.

Since PP means Power Plant, it must be the Sativa Spirit. Thanks Wobster! Now I can rest assured knowing that I'll actually be planting the Lowryders!

I'm going to look around and try to find some information on organic growing from google.

Hmm. No further suggestions or comments?

I was wondering, do you think they were out of Sativa Spirit and sent Power Plant instead?

That would be my guess sweet leaf. But who cares, its more about the journey of growing the plants than what strain it is :)

True.

Some questions... What size pots would Lowryders be good to start in? I've never really read anything that said what size pots to use when a plant is at a certain height. Lowryder is not supposed to be transplanted, so I want to know what size pot I would need for a plant whose max height should be 16 inches or so.

Also, Miracle Grow has a continuous release soil that has perlite and a few other things premixed. I plan on using that, as well as adding bone/blood meal to raise the nitrogen. What should I use to increase phosphorous levels, and is it best to wait until you switch to flowering to supplement phosphorous?

OK, an update. I had one short plant in the tub, just some bagseed. I had sprouted 4 and only two grew. Of those two, I killed one on accident unfortuantely, and I was lucky the other one was a female. However, I think I killed her too. I added some triple super phosphate, 0-45-0, and I think I also overwatered. The plant was really droopy. So I figured I'd leave it there and the next cycle would absorb all the water. Well, it did, unfortuantely the plant was actually dried up too! And there are tons of little white specks on the soil that I'm assuming are trichomes from the plant? Anyone have this happen before?

If I figure out what Im going to use as soil, I will probably germinate the Lowryders in the next few days. I just want to make sure I won't have any humidity issues or such. Should I get a humidity gauge and hang inside the tubs?

if you have the funds heres my soil ingredients, i dont really know the amounts cause i just mix it till if feels and smells right. or if you have a local grow shop you can get some premix soils.
spagnum peat moss
organic compost
organic topsoil
sand
perlite
vermiculite
red lavarock
worm castings
supertea mixed in to soil when added to the planters or as a top dressing
as a rule of thumb...dont use anything that has the miracle grow name on it, the prefertilized soils will be too rich for seedlings, and the time release ferts will mess with your feeding schedule. if nothing else find someone who has an established vegetable garden and dig up some of their soil.
there are lots of companies that make digital humidity and temp gages and thats what i use but i have never tried to use one of those analogue ones. good luck and happy growing...i wish i lived somewhere where it was easy to obtain good genetics...

Hm. There is an Ace Hardware and a Walmart out here. There are a couple nurseries but I don't know if they are even open (its winter.)

as for genetics, use the web.

K, with that last post, I kind of meant to ask "Where should one go to find this"

Unfortuantely, I forgot to ask. Hehe, go figure.

Okay. Do yourself a favor and DO NOT SPROUT ANY MORE SEEDS until you have done a lot of reading. There's only so much we can hold new growers' hands, and knowing that you should NEVER fertilize a seedling is really basic.
There's a link in my signature that is a good place to begin. It will save you a lot of frustration.

I'm not impressed with Rhino Seeds' sending you a strain that you didn't order without asking you first. That's not good business practice at all! Luckily, Power Plant is one of the best indoor strains for a new grower or an old grower looking to grow some serious weight. So you lucked out. I run it and know people who run it commercially.. it's a great plant.

It wasn't a seedling. This was a bagseed plant that I had grown for about 5 weeks and switched to flowering. And from what I've read, phos. helps a plant produce blooms/flowers. So I figured since my plant was about a week into flowering it would help.

Guess I could have made that a bit clearer. I've done a lot of reading, but yes, I can do more. I've planted none of the seeds I ordered specifically because I ain't gonna fuck those up.
