Ok so as of right now I have a ceramic bong, about 14 inches tall. I use this thing regularly and cleaning it has become a hassle. I been reading up that they are more for show and should not be used all the time. Another concern of mine is that I have problems clearing it (as in half way through I am coughing and no I do not build up alot of smoke).

So with all that in mind, can someone recommend me a new bong? If this helps, I really like having ice in there but it melts way to quick. I'm trying to keep the price pretty low as well. Also, if you don't mind, can you link me a place to get it? My local headshops charge way to much for anything.

Thanks guys!

I don't really like ceremics and they usally have metal bowls and a carb. Try looking online like at everyonedoesit.com you can find a decent bong under 50 bucks. Also i recommend getting a glass bowl thats always a good choice.

My bong has neither a carb and or a metal bowl. This is a pic of it. (http://img505.imageshack.us/img505/8663/image003bq8.jpg) I added the paper towel roll so you could get an idea for the height. Thanks though, I'm going to go check out that site.

Sorry to double post but it would not let me edit my last post. That site is from the uk so I really don't feel like paying extra shipping charges. Is Grasscity.com (http://www.grasscity.com) reliable? They seem to have some good pricing. I really like this bong they have. (http://shop.grasscity.com/shop/grasscity/2270.html)

DUDE! soulmates! iv been looking for a bong today as well, ALSO on the same website.

I really like this one: Close Up View (http://shop.grasscity.com/shop/grasscity/scan/fi=products/sp=img_detail/st=db/sf=sku/se=2120.html)

This one comes in 2nd: Close Up View (http://shop.grasscity.com/shop/grasscity/scan/fi=products/sp=img_detail/st=db/sf=sku/se=2106.html)

But THIS one, from a different website, may take the cake...

yea grass city is relible but you are pretty much paying the same price for shipping costs. I just like everyonedoesit beacuse they have good selections. I ordered couple of bongs and a space case grinder without a problem. Maybe try checking your local headshop they somtimes have decent bongs and decent prices. Anyway if you get a bong go for glass on glass they are the best.

I really liked that one when i was shopping for a bong a few weeks ago, but i ended up getting smaller one off of DrBongs.com. If I had to buy another one it would be that one, though.

Thats ridiculous, your bong is not for show.

How exactly are you having problems cleaning it? Why do you need to clean it at all? Does the stem get too clogged to pull through?

If you cannot clear it completely then you will most likely have difficulty clear any decent-sized bong, I'd suggest that you consider buying a pipe.

If you are desperate for water-filtration then get a bubbler, which is a tiny little bong-pipe that is no trouble to clear.

But seriously, why is cleaning your bong so vital?

okay i thiiiiink i actually found the bong i want to buy (on Thursday, when i get my goddamn paycheck)...

mini Salamander glass bong : Dr Bongs Cannabis Emporium (http://www.drbongs.co.uk/index.php?main_page=popup_image&pID=286)

it's 6 inches tall, but slider.... which i guess is okay, b/c my roommate had maybe an 8 inch bong w/ a carb, and i smoked outta that thing for a year - it was the first bong i ever smoked out of, so it will be an homage to that.

can u get good hits off a small bong like that? i never hit a bong that small and im just wondering why u prefer to get a 6inch instead of a 2 footer or something like that

vej33
02-25-2008, 01:06 AM
Well I want something kind of discreet, nothing like a 2 footer or anything. I've smoked out of a bong close to the size i want, and yea you get great hits off it.

Also has to do with price. It's rare to find a good bong for 30 bucks that is large.

Plus, on grass-city.com, they hav bongs that are even smaller than the Salamander one I want, and the reviews for them all say "I thought it was going to be lame because it's so small, but WOW im so stoned, I've been holding it for 8 hours" yada yada stoner babble. Obvi most of the reviewers were stoned when they reviewed them, so I'd say -- yea, you can get ripped off small bongs lol.

Not to be the naysayer but Reviews are not always the best place for information. Those websites tend to remove negative reviews. It's not that bad of a thing really, they want to stay upbeat but I've yet to read bad reviews on everyonedoesit.co.uk though I think they are a good company.

DUDE THAT IS THE BONG I BOUGHT! it hits like a charm, the only thing is when i recevied mine it had a spider on it instead of a salamander, but doesnt really matter. The size is great because i can transport it quite easily and discreetly. Also, yes it has a carb, but i dont really see why a bong with a carb is such a big deal. Only bong elitists will be bitches about it, but i think the carb is actually easier than a slide, because there's less movement involved and therefore less of a chance of the bong breaking. Overall the mini salamander is a great buy, I think you would be happy with it.

Wow Im so glad you exist lol, how funny that we both looked at the same bongs (first the speckled festival bong, now this) what luck at finding someone who already has the same bong I want... and I AM going to order this, although I'm a little sad that you got a spider instead of a salamander... the salamander was kind of the selling point for me... i guess i'd be okay with a spider. maybe the salamander is just one example, and they come with lots of different critters on them...

Yea, I don't really mind carbs at all, like you I almost prefer them because I don't hav to move all around the bowl. Me + lots of bowl movement = a floor full of weed.

I do hope mine has the salamander on it tho...

ps... what'd you name it? :smokin: got any pictures? just so i can really see the size

Yeah I'm not big on the Slider/Carb thing. My first one that I bought had a carb and now I almost exclusively use sliders. But that's more circumstance than preference. I do want to point out though that you don't really see high end stuff with carbs on it.

one of these days I'm going to have to take a photo of the collection.

My only thing about sliders over carbs is that with a slider you get a more even airflow from underneath while the carb has just a little narrow column of air so sometimes you have to work just a touch more to clear it.

As for small bong vs big bong:

Small bongs are the best, noone is going to hit a small bong and complain that it wasn't a big enough hit. You fill the chamber and continue to pull until the end of your comfort level. With small bongs I'll clear the chamber with one breath. I have a big acrylic one that's like 2.5 feet tall. Getting THAT filled is a major breath in and of itself let alone clearing it.

You just seem to have more control over the smaller ones.

My personal fave is an 18" Liquid filled top (to balance). Not a very large chamber to fill but it's really quite strong and I put a diffuser downstem and ashcatcher in it.

Some advise is crushed ice. Throw ice in a blender and you won't get that bubbling sound but the coolest thickest most comfortable smoke of your life. Some people like warm water but I'm an ice guy.

If I had the salamander, I'd name it Geico. I just ordered a vape on ebay and I'm going to name it something ridiculous probably.

You need to clean it cause it fuks with taste. Smokin some bluberry and it tastes like some tary hash burnt hair thing is not good. I think glass on glass is the only way to go and a slider or pull bowl is also the only way to go (no stale hits).

You seem very well knowledged in the field of bongs :D I can only hope my ownership will enlighten me so!

I do think I'll be using crushed ice, and snow (we have a fucking abundance of it... i just want to smoke it all away)

The only reason I will be .0001% disappointed if the bong does not come with the salamander, is because the name I want to give it is totally dependant on that little critter...

I wanted to name it Commander Coriander, from Calvin and Hobbes. Calvin really likes this book called "Hamster Hughey and the Gooey Kablooey", and then much later in the series, I have this memorized, he says "The literary world is abuzz with Maybel Syrups sequel to Hamster Huey and the Gooey Kablooey! We have to buy it, it's called Commander Coriander Salamander and 'er Single-hander Bellyander"...

Commander Coriander is a Salamander, so if it came with the spider I'd hav to think of a whooole new name!

That's a pretty cool name actually but I'll be honest with you, there's really only one way to name a piece...

Use it like it's going out of style and THEN name it. Be sure to write it down ;-)

Now I just need to find one that fits my style.

that's actually an overly simple view of this issue.

A small bong is NOT the best thing for everyone. It's great for a beginner who wants to be able to take small hits and experiment with larger ones.

I think you should get the bong that is just the right size for you. If you like big deep rips or several clearing rips, a larger bong is better. The process of clearing a larger bong by using multiple tokes will get you FAR higher and use far less work (IE lighting and pulling)

Also, aethetically, larger bongs are nicer. Small guys are cool and great to experiment with but there really is something to be said about the "art" bong, the one that stays out so people who come over look at it and say "my god man, that's a nice bong"

So if your primary concern is rip size, go small. Remember, the right bong will just speak to you. Frosty the Snowman/The science experiment was really one of those "oh, look at that, it's perfect" though it's not as pleasing to the eye to everyone. I personally like the type that look like converted science classroom equipment because of the clean lines and perfection of surface. You may like the hand blown multicolor type as in the salimander.

The rule you really should take to heart is "only go as big as you're comfortable but you should probably go right up to that limit if you plan on keeping it around for a long time"

yeah i dont really have anything against big bongs, i only bought a smaller one because its easier for me to manage and its easier to hide/transport. I agree that larger bongs can get a person much more fucked up, especially if they have the lung power to clear it, but even a small bong is a big step up from a bowl as far as quality and size of hits. Also a big bong looks much nicer and can be the centerpiece of any sweet hangout, but personally i think the handblown glass ones look much nicer than the cold and calculating molinos and roors. Really the only reason i bought a bong was because i was concerned that all of the blunts i was smoking were hurting my lungs too much, and since a bong filters the smoke a little bit i figured it would be healthier.

I'm not sure about what type of design it will have on it, but i can guarantee you that it wll be sweet. I named my bong Marzipan mostly because of an inside joke i had with one of my friends who smoked it for the first time with me, but also because Mrzipan is my favorite character from homestarrunner.com. I dont have any pics of it, but i can tell you that it is about 1.5 soda cans tall, so its really not too big and pretty easy to manage. Also, whenyou order it, it comes with a free pack of screens which is always a plus.
