FULLERTON, Calif.â??The Fullerton City Council has voted to ban medical marijuana dispensaries in the city.
The panel voted 4-1 on Tuesday evening to curb establishment of the clinics and reverse a decision two weeks ago to consider regulating zoning for the dispensaries.

Mayor Sharon Quirk, who previously supported the clinics, said that after meeting with Police Chief Pat McKinley she had a better understanding of the various enforcement and financial pressures that would have been placed upon the city.

All on the council but Pam Keller supported the ban.

Marijuana use is illegal under federal law, which does not recognize the medical marijuana laws in California and 11 other states.

It is actually the right thing to do, current state laws leave cities and everyone in them vulnerable to lawsuits out the ass if they just go along with and allow dispenseries to operate even legally! The folks in the local government need to be honest with everyone and explain why they can't allow that to happen, it's not their fault that the current legislation is terrible. They can't put every tax paying citizen of that city into a situation where they may end up paying some insane amount of money for the intrests of a very small few in that community, it's not responsible, and it is not the right thing to do. Sorry, I know no one wants to hear that, the truth that is.:(

It sucks, and no one wants to see or hear this happening, but at the same time is it fair to everyone in that city that would have to pay for all of the associated costs that are involved? I don't think it is, that is where we are at today with MMJ folks. Now in hindsight, it's clear to see that the current legaslation in California is NOT A GOOD THING FOR MMJ. The only "right way" to do anything on the state level, is to completely decriminalize period. If you are upset about what Fullerton has done, then just wait, you haven't seen anything yet!

If the state of California could decriminalize and establish a free for profit market, then prohibition would end federally within 8 years, garauntee it. California has one of the largest economies in the world, and complete decriminalization would do the opposite that MMJ laws have. Instead of concentrating all resources and profits involved, which is what is happening now, it would blow up like a bomb and be everywhere. California would be the first in the door, and be able to reap huge huge revenues as a state, all local governments, and for individuals involved, it would also mainstream the business of marijuana and provide a vast amount of new opportunity for anyone that would choose it.

The federal government would continue to fight, but it would be meaningless because it would be so prevalent. They would move into other states that are doing what California did 10 years ago. I don't know what kind of challenges the federal government would make, possibly cutting of federal funding for a variety of projects, but that may not be so bad for the nation as a whole. :thumbsup:That is why it likely will not happen though, the feds don't care about the current laws, because they make it easy for them to sit and wait for individuals to concentrate resources, and then they pounce, easily destroying anything they choose to up to and including the lives of Americans that are involved, then they go away, sit back and wait to do it again, they can keep this up untill the end of time if they want and that is exactly what they intend to do. Every time they demoralize people involved, and make it harder for those involved to pick up and continue to move forward.
That would not work if it was completely decriminalized, they could do it, but they would only be able to hold about one half of one percent of the people involved accountable and they would move on to much "lower hanging fruit".

i know right its like what the fuck do we have to do

You ever hear the saying if you don't do something right the first time, then you will end up having to do it again?

California hasn't gotten it right, and the more people are caught up in what happened 10 plus years ago the more nothing will happen. The more people that continue to be caught up with the current laws, and current trend in this political movement the better for the Anti-Pot crowd. Sorry that is the truth.

California has legalized the Rehabilitation-for-Profit Pyramid nothing more. I agree with 8182. It seems like a bad thing
on it's face but after I read those facts. No doubt, it's a scam.

Something is wrong when your mayor of all people is voting for or against things she doesn't understand. I would like to find out how often the chief of police or city official has educated the council members after the item passed with the majority in favor.

By any chance does the Brown Act prohibit members of the police dept and city council members from discussing agenda items or worse influencing them to a point that they change their vote and reverse the original decision? I'm pissed because I should have been notified along with every other resident in North OC who might have shown up at that meeting to object to this crap.

The right thing to do is vote that moron off the council, that was the end of her career if I have to put up signs to remind Fullerton Voters this idiot is more dangerous then any stoner.

Aren't the meetings public? Don't they post the agenda items? They do in Corona? They also have the meetings on a set scheduel? Not trying to show any disrespect to you, just asking if they do that in Fullerton? Apparently not?

They did the right thing, in the intrests of the "MAJORITY" of the people that live in the city. Like I said, it's not their fault that the current laws are horrible. They didn't make them, they are protecting the intrests of the majority of the people in the city, as well as the city itself.

As long as we choose to have this battle in the context of "medical marijuana" we will continue to suffer defeat after defeat, everyone thought they had won the war in 96, it was just the first battle, and the war continues, and we are not winning folks. I don't dispute for a second the medical value, but I do oppose special intrest legislation because you end up with stuff like this. In America, the majority rules, or is supposed to, there are not supposed to be special rules and laws to protect the minority, it flies in the face of freedom in my opinion.:( MMJ laws have done nothing but been devisive at best, and make federal law enforcements job very, very, easy. We have all been duped, it's just a question of now what do you want to do about it.
