The instructions for a 150 watt HPS ballast kit (Sola brand) say the ignitor must be within 2 feet of the Bulb. But it would be nice to use this as a remote ballast about 4 - 6 feet away. Anybody ever heard of such a requirement, or think 6 feet away would be OK?
Thanks

I'm guessing that if the manufacturer says "it must be located within 2 feet...", then it has to be within 2 feet :)

Follow their instructions or you'll void any warranty if there is any .
The closer the igniter is to the bulb the less strain there is on it . In industrial / greenhouse equipment the igniter is usually right in the hood for the igniters longevity .

So if I put it say 4 feet away the ignitor may die a litter early, but will still function.
Thanks
