For all you out there I was just shown recently of heatwands. for everyone else thaat hasnt seen them, they are awesome. instead of sucking down lighter fluid you can light up all natural. A more reasonable way to smoke like with a magnifying glass.
Anyways the problem most people have is getting the wand or rod hot enough. The best way I found is using a commercial blow torch from a hardware store, I got mine for 25$ USD and the refill cans are 2$, I've had it for 3 weeks already and havent changed cans yet. Also i use it everyday atleast twice a day.
i like this method a lot because you are not adding anything to your smoke just pure green essence. i dont cough as much and when i do its not as bad or severe as when i was using lighters.
hope you guys/gals enjoy
1. glass wand/rod
2. torch
3. nice and hot

yeah dude, I just got one that was blown here locally and I light mine up with a torch lighter.
Has the tip turned color on you? I think I melted some ash into the glass.
Also, do you have any idea as to how long a typical glass wand should last?
But I wholeheartedly agree that it's a fantastic smoking method. I can really taste the difference with a fresh bowl. I have a hard time getting mine hot enough so I have what I called the Stoner-three-handed-glass-wand-bong-rip fu where I basically wedge the bong between my leg and my chin while I heat up the wand, put down the lighter, grab the bong and shove it into my ash catcher's bowl.
What color are you letting yours turn when it's hot? Orange/Yellow/Super yellow and what color is it when you stick it in your bowl?

I was so confused upon first reading this.
But after twenty minutes of reflection and another bowl, I think I have figured out what got me.
So.......... you heat up this glass rod until it's pretty shades of whatever, then you use the superheated glass instead of a lighter for your bong? Right? That's the only thing that makes logical sense.
(lol, forgive me, I'm higher than a kite off my new bong. See, so now I'm interested in this method because I think I could try it with my bong)

i get that tip a glowing orange.

yes absolutely correct. sorry i was stoned writing this last night.
also as for wands get 'em at your local headshop but if your looking for something cheap and easy go to Wal-Mart, Wallyworld, whatever the hell you can and get some glass stirrers for drinks. They have a ball tip thats small enough to heat up fast than a regular wand/rod. Perfect for snappers or if you want to micro manage your bowl when smoking.

you know, this sounds like a good idea and all, and i may try it if its not too expensive. but i feel that eventually for me this would turn painful. I know from personal experience when im high i have a tendency to become slightly forgetful when it comes to some things, and i can just imagine myself forgetting to turn the torch off, or passing the rod and handing the other person the hot end, or have that happen to me, but i still think it is a good idea, just not a super practical one.

kudos for being self-aware!!! yes in my short time people who have used my torch and wand are dangerous with it. this is something that must be exercised with caution. ive been burnt with the torch(nothing serious, 'cept some hairs gone) because of other peoples neglectfulness. On the other hand I have some really responsible friends who light the rod for you as you hold your bong or apparatus and simplify the equation!

Thanks, dagshet. That's what it seemed like it should be, but I wasn't sure. I really want to try this method sometime soon. I, too, don't really like the thought of inhaling butane or lighter fluid.

yeah, and i know that eventually i would get tired of heating the wand, and just end up using the torch to light the bowls so it would just completely vaporize all the good things in said bowl.

well when there's other people, it's a 2-person endeavor.
Someone heats it and dips it in for you.
as far as getting frustrated, the taste is so much better that it's a really good payoff. I find I get a more mellow result as well.

damn straight. dont get me wrong guys this shit is tedious and dangerous (in a sense) if not careful. BUT holy crap the smoke is unreal, when God designed ganja this is how he meant for it to be smoked.

for practicality, portability purposes, you're better off picking up a ceramic heating wand that plugs in or is cordless. It's just as clean, and quite a bit more efficient.

theoretically then couldnt i just use a soldering iron, one that hasnt been used for its intended purpose of course, but wouldnt that be basically the same thing, just metal, and i dont think you would get any metal with it because it is a very low heat for the metal and such.

No Jim:wtf:, you take off the metal end used for soldering so the ceramic heating element inside is all dat touches the bud:cool:

OK
here's why glass rod > Soldering Iron
Soldering Iron takes 5 minutes to heat up (Correct me if I'm wrong) Glass wand, 10 seconds. Soldering Iron stays hot, glass wand cools off thus making it safer.
Also, they cost about the same. I got my wand for $10.

you make a good point there, and i was wondering if there were any drawbacks from using a soldering iron due to the fact that i have a spare one just laying around, but seeing as you make the time argument like you have, i may go out and try to find one, or atleast have the local glass blower make one.

one thing that is better about the soldering iron is the you dont have to keep reheating it. just let it sit while you break up weed and pack bowl. should be hot enough by then and will stay hot. either or is a great method of smoking the green

yeah but let's say you're in a carpeted room...
kinda easy to knock onto the floor.
Actually there's something really soothing and ritualistic about heating the wand. Very much in the same way as packing a bowl or rolling a really nice joint.

speaking of carpeted rooms in respects of the torch be really careful handling that shit cuz if you drop it there is no way in hell your going hide that burn mark:giggity:

yeah, i mean my only real concern is the torch really, and soldering irons are more compact, and the point about it taking time to heat up is a very valid argument, but to me i feel as though if i cant wait 5 minutes while it heats up, then there is some issue that needs to be resolved before i smoke, but thats just me, but i think i would try and own both just as a sort of novelty of the whole thing.

Ow...can you imagine what it would feel like to grab the glass rod when its glowing orange?

unfortunately yes.
I accidentally grabbed a soldering iron once...
I have accidentally grabbed the glass when it was clear but not glowing. It takes like 2 minutes for it to cool off enough.

haha Im with you bro, for a couple seconds their I was like ahhh.
I only use heat wands for hash I guess it would be cool for lighting bowls too. But Im not that much of a purist, although I never smoke with a zippo cause that shit tastes nasty

I have done that when it gets hot like honey and starts to liquify it driped on my leg. Instant fire and if I wasnt so quick to take off my pants like less than a second quick it would have been my bare leg with instant flames. The hot clear rod sucks to though, grab that and you will have a blister for more than a week.

my old chemistry teacher grabbed a clear (hot as hell) glass beaker with his bare hand in class one time....damn...he actually got glass melted into his skin

it definitely doesn't need to be THAT hot to ignite any herb.

^^ I make glass bongs and some pipes and jewlery, but it would be kinda hard to get the honey look in glass with out a O2 torch, map gas mabey
