so this is my first grow. i have 1 violator kush from barneys farm, and 1 arjan's ultra haze #2 from greenhouse seeds. they are 16 days old. they are feminized seeds which i personally brought back from amsterdam. i also have 2 violator kush 1 week old. i'll post some pics when they start to get interesting.

my setup;

2 1/2' x 5' x 7 1/2 ' grow space, covered in mylar
19" cool tube w/ 6 inch duct
600 watt lumatek ballast
600 watt sunmaster cool deluxe M.H. and a 600 watt eye hortilux super h.p.s.
6 inch can fan 440 cfm
2 small fans for circ.

soil grow, with miracle grow moisture control and i added coarse perlite for added aeration.

nutrients;

sensi cal mg grow mix
dutch master grow max

for flowering

fox farm open sesame
" " tiger bloom
" " big bloom
sensi cal mg bloom mix

a few questions.....

on the first 2 pics of the v.k. on the 4th set of leafs on the far end of the pic. there is a small area with obvious signs of parasite damage. i've looked at a few pics with a google search of common signs of infestation and it didn't help me. i was wondering if anyone could identify what species is the perp?

on the arjans u.h. #2 at first the leafs had some mild deformity. mainly twisting of the leafs. they seem to be doing fine now, but i'm curious as to what causes this.

also, i just transplanted and gave them a bit of the sensi cal mg. i noticed the perlite is turning slightly amber. is this normal?

any help is appreciated......

looking very good...please continue to post pics. i am curious to see your results with seeds straight from the Dam. i am currently in the middle of grow #2 (http://boards.cannabis.com/grow-log/149929-white-widow-soiless-under-250w-hps-my-second-grow.html) in soiless mix (1/3 peat, 1/3 perlite, 1/3 vermiculite) and the perlite does get brown after watering. it's very normal. as for your deformed leaf, i actually had one too with this grow and i have no idea what it is. i could not find much in the grow bible or any of my other books about it, at first i was thinking the plant might be a hermie, i just went to 12/12 last friday so we will soon find out.

anyway, congrats on getting some seeds home from the Dam, hope you had a great trip...i am counting the days until I get back to that place!

i don't know if it's possible to zoom in on the picture, but in the first 2 pics of the v.k. on the 4th set of leafs of the far side of the pic you can see where something munched on the leaflets. its only on one leaf and it hasn't spread, but i'm still trippin on what it is. I'll upload some better pics of it tomorrow.

You in Santa Barbara? You don't have to say if you don't want...I just noticed 805 in your name, plus it says your in CA...Anyways, I'm in SYV ...nice grow, I still haven't made it out to Amsterdam yet, but when I go I want to go during the cannabis cup. Were the seeds you bought strains that you were able to smoke? How much were they? Are they cheaper than buying them online? Was it hard bringing them back? I have some sage n sour that i got from some bag seed at Hortipharm going plus some Bubba Kush clones i got from a friend. I have a log going, I just haven't updated it since I started it, I cant figure out how to post thumbnails anymore. In regards to your leaf twisting, if you used the 600 watt light to start the seeds and had it too close it could have caused some stress from too much light. I start my seeds under a T5 and then move them under HID's once their larger. There's also plenty of hydro stores in the area that sell much better soil and soil-less mediums if you find you don't like the MG. Some people swear by it and others say that it was the worst thing they ever used. Anyways keep us posted...

chrisdl, im in camarillo. all good, its a legal grow.

i went to "the dam" the weekend after (2 days after the end of) the cannabis cup 2007. the violator kush was sold out at barneys, and the arjans u.h. #2 was sold out at all 5 of the greenhouse coffeeshops i went to. barneys claims the v.k. has a thc content of 22.3% and green house claims arjans u.h. #2 has a content of 22.9%! the seeds are too easy to bring back. shit, i not only brought back 5 feminized of each strain, I brought 7 grams of different strains, including this years htcc winner g13 x haze from barneys, along with 8 grams of different kinds of hash and some hawaiian copelandia mushroom spore prints. enough to give presents to all my friends! there are no dogs when you walk through customs. only to sniff your luggage. just be cool when you go through and its all good.

miracle grow, I know, I could have done better. but the moisture control mix i have is a mixture of sphagnum peat moss, coir fiber,
an "organic compost mix" and perlite. i also added some perlite for added aeration. prolly as good as i can get being that i saved this for the last of my purchases.

but yeah, this site and specifically this forum look very useful to say the least. very thankful for this! and really i appreciate ANY advice.

Damn, i'm not sure how much more a euro is than a dollar, but sounds like you got a deal! This site is a grea wealth of knowledge, especially if you don't really know many people that grow that you can ask ?'s. Are there any good hydro stores in camarillo. I go to either Green Coast Hydro or Stop & Grow, but i found a new store, real small called Nutes. The guy is super cool, I was there for about 2hrs the other day just talking about growing, different nutes, Co2,ect. Plus he'll give you a great deal on pretty much everything. He said that Advanced Nutes had a deal where if you bought $195 of there products you get a free liter of Voodoo Juice which is about $80. But he said I could buy $195 of anything he had and he'd still give me the deal. I didn't have the money to spend that day so he's basically letting me run up a tab until I hit $195 so I can still get it. Anyways I'm high so its munchie time:smokin:

so this is day 21 after sprouting. the first 3 pics are the v.k. on the last one, you can see where it looks like something grubbed on it then bounced. it hasn't spread at all, so i dont think its an infestation.

the next 2 are the arjan's u.h. #2 which seem to be doing fine.

the last 2 are v.k. which are not doing good at all. they are 2 weeks old and gave me problems from the get go. one of their sisters died because the seed shell just wouldn't come off. the same thing almost happened to the runt looking one, but i saved it by performing a little surgery. i also transplanted them in hopes that they would catch up with the other 2. which proved to be a bad idea because they haven't grown at all in the past week. any suggestions?

hmm, now that i'm seeing them progress, I think i have it backwards. when i brought these seeds back, I took them out of their original packaging and forgot to label them. d'oh! I thought they would be easily identified by the time they were 10 days or so as one was indica and one sativa. I now think i have 3 haze and 1 kush. any thoughts?

How did you germinate them? Or did you just plant them in the MG and let them sprout naturally? The ones that are 21 days look great, but the 2 week old ones seem way to small. Does the MG moisture control come preloaded with nutes? I don't see any obvious signs of burn anywhere. I would hope for 1 good female from each strain then take clones. I started 5 seeds at least 3 weeks ago, all 5 sprouted fine. Now though 3 of the 5 are significantly smaller and have signs of deficiency. But if I get 2 or even 1 strong female out of them I'll be happy.

i sprouted the older ones straight into a jiffy pot, and the other two using the old wet paper towel method. they had a good 1/2" tail on them before i put them into a jiffy pot. as for hoping for 2 females, these are feminized seeds, so i think i should do better than that.

perhaps when you transplanted them from the paper towel into the jiffy pot they suffered some shock that stunted their growth...

i don't know, they shot up quick, but the seed shell just wouldn't come off. my friend that brought back some feminized seeds with me had the same problem with his. they seem to be doing a little better now though. i'll post more pics in a few days.

week 4 (about 32 days). went out of town for a few days and left the watering to my roommate. minor setback, some were over watered, some were under. they seem to be doing better in the last few days i've been home though. i'm about to transpplant the 2 big ones and start flowering this weekend.

just switched over to flowering saturday night, and i swear overnight the violator developed female preflowers. the big ultra haze has 22 tops. the runts have caught up some with one having 12 tops the other working on 10. I'll post some pics tonight when the lights come on.

o.k. I really need an opinion of an experienced grower or anyone who can call it.....

I'm still not sure as to which strain is which. (and I'm still slapping myself for not labeling the 2 bags when I brought them back). As these plants progress, they show different characteristics, look at the pictures of the ultra haze, they almost look like 3 different strains, no? Anyway, I'm still happy as can be, look at the biggest ultra haze or whatever the fuck she is, 22 tops (11 internodes) at almost 18" and growing. I'll try to post better pics of the female preflowers of the v.k. when I get a chance. Again,
I'd really appreciate some input on which strain is which.

chrisdl805 - word, i've got more seeds of both strains, and will mother both next time around, as this is my first indoor grow ever.

i am currently growing V kush as well...i think i started around the same time as you, funny as it is...but your plants are alot bigger. you also have a way better light than i do...but mine are coming along nicely...should be ready a week before 4/20 :)

left my camera at a friends house, wont get it back till sunday. they are monsters though. the ultra haze is over 4 feet tall and the v.k. all look to be huge yielders so far. fat calyxes and trichomes everywhere. yeah i need my camera back.
