Isopropanol seems to be what most people use. I like acetone personally. Whichever solvent you choose, add some table or rock salt as an abrasive agent.

isopropyl rubbing alcohol and salt. let it soak, then scrub. you glass will be like new.

Yup, they got it. Add some rubbing alcohol and regular salt. I like to add alot of salt (probably a 4:1 ratio of alcohol to salt). Shake vigorously, then repeat as needed. Depending on how dirty it is, you may need to scrub the downstem with a pipe cleaner.
