Haven't seen this, or know much about it to decide if the Iranians are just being a little bit silly here. However if indeed it does suggest the Koran is an inspiration for murder then I think it might also be a little disrespectful. Saying that though, there is no denying that it IS an inspiration to some extremists to commits acts of attrocities, like for example the infamous 911 terror attacks.

"Mr Wilders has said his film will show how the Koran is "an inspiration for intolerance, murder and terror"."

Is there any need though to show that? We all know that it is to some. Can he not portray the book in a more positive light?

_______

OK I've done my research, and my initial impression from his picture alone that Geert Wilder is a neo-nazi scumbag have been confirmed.

From wikipedia- "Geert Wilders (born 6 September 1963) is a Dutch politician standing on a platform of race. He has been a member of the Tweede Kamer (Dutch House of Representatives) since 1998, first for the People's Party for Freedom and Democracy and from 2006 for the Party for Freedom, a party which he founded and of which he is the political leader. Geert Wilders favors the restriction of immigration, particularly from non-Western countries. A vocal critic of Islam, he has sought to ban the Koran as a proscribed text in the Netherlands because he believes it to be in conflict with Dutch law!"

Sorry for the double post I accidentally posted this thread before I was finished writing it.

Whoooaah I just read more of Geert Wilders from wikipedia, it is outrageous. I think I might take a small vacation in Germany when this film comes out.

"Later, Wilders suggested that Muslims should 'tear out half of the Koran if they wished to stay in the Netherlands' because it contained 'terrible things' and that Muhammad would 'in these days be hunted down as a terrorist'."

Muslims are totally lame. Christians are totally lame. The dutch rule. Get over it, someone whom is that mindfucked over any religion deserves a Darwin award. Its time to move on.

Lets face it, Iran, Iraq and Afghanistan are not exactly vacation hotspots, and I am sure that us as westerners would be killed if we were to go on a pleasure trip to the mideast.

Here is a clip of what to expect from the film (apparently) - very surreal to find myself actually agreeing with what Tony Blair and George Bush say in it.... :wtf:... I hope that my bleeding heart liberal views are not swinging to the right.

The last 2 clips are an interview with Geert Wilders. He seems like a very intelligent man, excellent command of the english language. I'm sure you could have said the same thing about Hitler though.

Enough with the "Hitler" analogies already! Wilders correctly compares the teachings of the Koran to fascism.

He is just trying to save his country from being turned into a theocratic dictatorship, ruled by Islamic mental retards.

He should get a medal from the rational segment of the world's population.

Oh come on this is blatant islamophobic neo-fascist propaganda!

Highlighting the parts of the Koran which influence these extremists to attack the west is extremely biased, and racist.
Take a look at the bible, how many murders were there in there? How many times did God unleash his wrath of destruction upon the sinners. What did the Spanish inquisition use as their moral compass?

Sure they are both as bad as each other, but THERE IS NO EXCUSE for using the actions of a minority to debase an entire religion. For every muslim who draws negative inspiration from the book there are a thousand others who see it as the epitome of moral and spiritual values.

He is just trying to save his country from being turned into a theocratic dictatorship, ruled by Islamic mental retards.

I very much doubt that is going to happen. There is more chance of Snoop Dogg becoming the president of America. Christian theocrats, perhaps, is a more likely scenario.

If you don't want to believe Wilders about Islam, then maybe you should try listening to Ayaan Hirsi Ali.

Ayaan Hirsi Ali - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ayaan_Hirsi_Ali)

She wrote the screenplay for Theo Van Gogh's movie Submission. He was killed for it, and she requires protection 24/7 due to constant death threats from Muslim organizations and individuals.

I suppose she's "Islamophobic" also, in your mind.

If muslims were peaceful they wouldn't kill people for exercising freedom of speech. But sharia law doesn't permit freedom of speech does it? The majority of muslims are good people who don't wish to murder anyone. Murder and violence is unnecessary unless physically invaded and potentially dominated. Words are words. This is no excuse for a backlack, the movie has every right to be shown. Harm and offense are two different things. Religion can't be safeguarded by the government, it is a personal choice. Let the film be shown, if people will be offended, they shoudn't watch it, they should have faith in their beliefs and simmer down. Pacify. The koran says about jihad that you'll meet 72 virgins or however many, it's completely false as is all religion. I'm entitled to my opinion, i attack no one personally, only pointing out what i believe to be illogical and absurd. If people get upset by words that's not my fault, they need to get a grip to be honest.

I hear freedom of speech being mentioned a lot in this thread. I support this too, and I also support the freedom for people to write, record and read what the fuck they want. Show the fucking film, suffer the bloody consequences of ignorance.

But we are talking about affording the freedom to express oneself to a guy who wants certain texts in the Koran to be banned in Holland.

That's it go and put words in my mouth. Twist my argument. Of course I don't agree with the oppression of women by Sharia law, remember I'm a bleeding heart liberal.

I know nothing of the film I must say at this point. I only know that this guy got murdered. I expect Geert Wilders will probably also have to spend the rest of his life hiding in his expensive country home as well, but of course since he is a politician I so bet he can afford it, the gutless fucking coward that he is.

You wont see him standing on a soap box shouting at the proletariats, oh no.

You can make the Koran say what ever you want. It just depends how you look at it.
Centuries ago people of my faith, Christianity were murdering Muslims left and right and would justify it with the Bible. Same shit
Its gonna take the people that actually use their brain to see that what they are doing is wrong

Some Dutch muslim guy is apparently going to be releasing a satirical spoof video to combat islamophobia.
