View Full Version : Do you think I blew my fans?

Last night I was working in my grow box, and screwed up. I was plugging in a light and hit a chain at the same time. Poof! Everything blew. I reset the GFI switch, and the lights work, but the fans don't (2 80 CPU fans attached to a 12V adaptor. I tried a different plug, restripping the wires, and even a new adaptor....they still don't work. So, I guess I need to go buy new fans? Any ideas that maybe I haven't thought of? I guess I'm just lucky to be alive, huh? Cheers! :hippy:

That's my guess! Electricity doesn't mess around...
If you're able to power other appliances up on the same circuit, and yet the fans still won't start, then I'd say it's pretty safe to assume that the fans are toast (almost literally). You'd probably have to replace the motor, along with the rest of the wiring, to get it running again. Too much of a hassle... just replace them.
Good luck!

I tried replacing the adaptor...no luck. I'm trying to get new fans; I thoguht they were 80's, but they are too small. I guess they're 120's. 120's can be run with a 12V adaptor right? Thanks, LdyMarsRN
