55 sq ft cab (2.5x3.5x6.5 ft) roughly. Sealed up in a nice cool basement. Would a 170 cfm inline fan with a nice sized passive intake, along with an oscillating fan inside, be enough ventilation for a 400watt hps? or would I need to get an air cooled hood (which I want to avoid do to duct routing issues in small cab where the only way out is the front, ans it is surrounded by concrete on 3 sides) If i need the air cooled hood, it would have to be a supernova type not an inline so the ducting could both leave thru the front manifold panel above the door. Obv aircooled is ideal, but does one 400wat hps produce that much heat? The ballast will be remoted out of the cab, so just bulb heat would need to be dealt with. I can run the fan constantly, and the hot air is exhausthed outside, so the room temp outside the box would be nice and cool (60-70 topps!) Any help greatly appreciated!:D

a 400 is going to get hot and raise the temps in the room atleast 8-10deg. if you try and exhaust the air right outside the cabinet it will still be fairly difficult to cool the air goin in because you are sucking in warmer air. i at first tried to exhaust my cab into the same closet as i pull air in and the cabinet stayed cool but not cool enough. i had to cut a hole in my wall between the bathroom and closet and that brought my temps down another 10-15 deg.

so temp without aircooled light was about 100-105
temps with aircooled light exhausted into same area as i am pulling in fresh air 90deg
temps with aircooled light exhausted into bathroom(another room)75deg

your temps wont be as high because you are using a 400 watt instead of a 600 watt and you might have a cooler area naturally but i would recomend an aircooled hood exhausted to another room

the hot air is exhausted outside the house, so that's not an issue. so you had 100 degrees with what kind of exhaust in your cab? Don't forget I'm goin with a 400 not a 600, and the cab is well ventilated, hot air to outside, cool air in, 170 cfm fan going nonstop plus circ fans. It sounds doable, but I don't want to have to buy a hood and duct it once the plants go in there I guess I could set it up and run it dry to see where the temps go. Thanks for your help!

im running a 6" vortex450cfm 24/7 and 6" exhaust duct on a 4'x3'x6'h cabinet

but yeah you should not have much a problem if you keep a steady supply of cool air. when you do a test run on heat check the temperature in all spots of the room, the back corner, right under the light, above the light, at the fresh air intake, outside the intake, ect and compare everything
