Hello! I am in week 2 of my first grow, growing 10 plants in rubbermaid bubblers. I have 2 cabs, side by side about 3.5'x3x6.5' tall each. they are in the end of a narrow base, ent section, so ventilation is thru the front only. I have passive vents low (about 6x8 inch sqarues with filter paper and a light diffuser made of rubber black matting used to non-slip the inside of toolbox drawers. I have 4 inch inline fans about 80 cfm exhausting outside, and I plan on hooking up carbon filters. I have 2 flourex floodlites, a 65 watt and a 100 watt on the seedlings, and would like to opt for a 400watt mh. The front venting makes air cooling hoods difficult to fit. I was wondering if anyone thinks that my fan left on all the time would be sufficient cooling, along with a 9" oscilating circulation fan inside the cab. Or, maybe one of the 170 cfm inlines. This upgrade would be a better option than craming an air cooled hood in there. If that's the case, I would need a supernova type hood as the inlines with the 6" duct would not make the turns to vent out the front. Right now the intake in the room is very cool, around 60degrees, thinking it goes up to 70-75 tops in the dead summer (maybe less, it is a cool basement!) Right now the flouros run the room around 73-74 when the fans run constantly, ive been doing 15 min on/15 off (constraints of my timer) and the temp cracks 80 to 81 tops for a few min before the exhaust cycles. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

I'm too stoned to picture your set up lol, but 70's-81 is fine, actually I always liked 78 for some reason. But having issues with it being cold at night sucks, like low 60's so you don't want that. You always want some ventilation in there at all times, I'm assuming this is all sealed? so you want to replace air a lot, at least every 5 mins.
those little occilating fans are wonderful too
That MH would be a great, but then you are looking at a lot more heat then what you have now.

Thanks for the help. I am not unsure if my current temps are good, I am wondering how much more heat the hid puts out! It will have a remote ballast not in the cab, will a 170 cfm fan and cool passive intake air be enough to keep the temps under 80? Just wondering if anyone has any experience with a similar setup. I have tried searching, but either the space is smaller than mine, or they talk about air cooled hoods exclusively.

you are fine with the temps, just don't go below 65 the lowest at night. You aren't even going over 85 right now.
If you put that hid in there, it WILL get hot, and a cooled hood would be the best...especially if it's a sealed grow area. Ballasts get hot, but nowhere close to the bulb. If it's remote then no worries on adding that extra heat in there.
You might have to test it out, it's hard to say how efficient your room is at cooling down with those fans. I would like to guess that with a vented hood and that 9'' fan in there you could keep it within range.
