Volcano Amounts

I just received the Volcano in the mail today, and I am almost scared of the potential the little machine has versus regular smoking. Because of this, and the fact that I have not vaped before, I was wondering what would be a good amount to start off with if I want to have an enjoyable high that is not over the top. Also, I am a lightweight, and it usually takes about 1.5-2 SMALL bowls of the same stuff I will vape with to get high. On the other hand, I'll be vaping with my brother who smokes everyday, so were trying to find the perfect balance as we go into our sesh.

We put in a few pinches. I weighed the the bag afterwards, and found it to be between .2-.3. I was absolutely shocked, as my daily toking brother said it felt like it was his first-time high all over again, and I was also very high, even if it was a more subtle, non-drowsy high. We had to stop early, and when I checked the loading chamber the next day, there was still green bud!?

That leads me to another question: when do you guys stop vaping? I have seen how people heat their herb and I tried to emulate that in my vaping. I start at 4 for a bag, up it to 5, then go to 5.5, 6, and then finally one at 6.5, and I often have yellowing happening on like 30% of the bud, while the other bud is only slightly less green. Should I keep vaping?

EDIT: I should also note that, due to it's subtle nature (in comparison to the more drowsy feeling you get when you smoke), I find it's harder to tell when it wears off, and it's actually gotten scary, as if I am not sure when I am high or not. But because I only just got it, maybe when I am more experienced with it, I'll be able to tell better? Any other vapers care to comment?

EDIT2: BTW, after vaping with this delightful contraption, in my highness, I dubbed it Krakatoa, due to it's power and often hilarious name.

Hey man, you are a smart dude. I got mine last year, ordered it on 4/20 lol. Let me say that that thing is the best of the best of the best! It does get you a lot higher then traditional methods imo.

As far as how much to use, generally I will fill it about half full and can run that through about 3 times. SOMEtimes 4 depending on the stuff, or how high you have it set and how big your bag is (if it's the one that already came installed then that 3-4 bags at that size) I keep mine at 6 to 6.5. What you want to do is run it once or twice, then crunch the stuff up more that's in there. Then run it again.

You can breath the vapour back IN as well - then recycle it some more. Try it out!

I use 1/8 teaspoon of powdered (coffee grinder) bud and it is plenty for me, i use about 1/4 oz per month and i use it every day.

Personally, I wouldn't recommend powdered herb for any vape. Powder gets too easily blown through screens in the case of bag vapes (I've experienced it with my herbalAire) and sucked up into whips. Ideally, the particles should be larger than the holes in whatever screen you're using. Granted it's difficult to achieve if you're grinding dry herb. Also, the smaller the particles, the more closely packed they'll be and air flow can be restricted, making the process more inefficient.

The screen on the volcano is fine enough to stop anything I have put into so far and I have also not seen anything enter the bag. When the herb is put in the valve it is kept loosely between the screens so with the Volcano compaction is not an issue.

It was more of a general comment on the super fine powder where the particles are small enough to get blown through any screen, and some people pack a whip bowl so the herb will stay put in one of those downward angled box vapes like the Vapor Bros or VaporCannon. I sometimes end up with some of this stuff that's practically 'dust' in an old bag of mid grade.

It's kind of hard to advise on a particular vaporizer when you don't know what your options are. Maybe you should ask once you find a shop that sells them.

Volcano has fine screens as well as he regular ones i comes with... so if you have a lot of powdery stuff or even keif, those screens work wonders.

No screen, no matter how fine, will stop powder that's so fine it's pretty much dust, but this isn't normally an issue, and most people breathe in more dust in the air on a daily basis. But if I smoked at all, and had some THC in dust form, I'd rather burn it than vape it. :smokin:

bud dust still gets through the volcano screen. As you vape the greens, they shrink from drying out. If you have a volcano, you'll know what I mean when you start seeing the dust gather inside your bag. You'll notice a big difference between hitting from a new bag vs. a fairly used bag if you grind your greens to dust. This is why they make a special screen for vaping kief.
