As many of you know I had all four of my wisdom teeth taken out ( http://boards.cannabis.com/cannabis-com-lounge/148946-i-m-finally-doing-wisdom-teeth.html )

But I was wondering, how soon can I safetly smoke without getting a dry socket or an infection? Everywhere I look online says something different.

my oral surgeon told me if I smoke to wait 6 to 8 weeks, but I was smoking the next day and I had two wisdom teeth pulled. I was prefectly fine I guess it depends on the person.

48 hours would be a good start :-) don't just smoke the next day straight away if I were you.

and toked on the way home (hubby driving). The thing is, you don't want to suck too hard, which could loosen the clot, and you don't want a dry mouth, which promotes bacterial growth. So I hit very gently on the joint and sipped cool water between hits (my mouth tasted rasty from the blood:(). No problems. Everything heal up normally. Anyway, that was my experience. Hope your healing goes rapidly! - Granny:hippy:

When I get teeth pulled, I always smoke the same day.( Its my medicine.... I need it!) I've never had a problem. Since John doesn't smoke, I guess shotgun hits are out, but as Storm Crow says, just don't suck too hard. Its the blood clot you are trying to protect.
I doubt you'll even want to smoke until the drugs they use to knock you out wear off. They make you feel so icky when they are wearing off!
Good luck to you rebgirl! Its not really something to look forward to, is it?!:(

Wait about 48hr, blood clot need to form and attach. If clot is sucked out of the socket you will

get what is known as a dry socket, that a direct communication between the oral cavity

and the nerve at the apex of the socket. Very painful.

quote from the paper I got today after my wisdom teeth were removed:

"Smoking: No smoking for at least 48 hours. Smoking can severely retard healing"

I think edibles should be fine though.

I'll tell you how it all went.

Go there, they attach a heart beat monitor to my finger, take my blood pressure, give me an oxigen mask, and a shot. I start feeling strange in a good way and I'm out.

I wake up, no pain, I can barely walk cuz of the drugs, I rest a bit. They show me how to change the gauze which I have to use until the bleeding stops. And it's done.

Right now 5 hours after my surgery the vicodin should've worn off, yet still no pain. All numbness has worn off. And I'm not swollen at all. I am still bleeding a tiny bit though, it hasn't clotted all the way.

I thought everything would be so much worse, but I'm totally fine.

depends on how many teeth were pulled and how you're healing. you're not supposed to smoke mainly because of the sucking ;), the same reason you're not supposed to drink thru a straw afte having your wisdom teeth pulled. perfect time to switch to edibles for a couple of days ;)

I had all 4 out. And thanks for the responses guys and gals. I made the decision NOT to smoke until I get the one stitch out this thursday. That gives me 8 full days to heal.

I know it's a lot, but hey, at least my tolerance will be low. And I have 1/4 waiting for me when i'm ready

I had dry socket, it didnt hurt at all!! I did not know until I was back to have the stitch removed such thing could happen or the pain associated with dry socket. THe remedy was some gritty stuff they stuck into the hole.

So that stuff they filled it with is gone, but I have a hole in the spot where I got dry socket. Sometimes you can see the hole when I yawn, I just forget until someone is like whats that? So its been 12 years, you get 1 body and if you dont take good care of it youll regret it. Have you ever seen someone with no pronouced chin? Its from jaw bone loss, and do anything to keep from ever having anymore teeth pulled. One thing dentists cant replace is your jaw bone,

Make brownies or cannabis capsules (see Flameon's thread) to indulge and find pain relief without smoking...

When I got mine out I stopped by McDonalds on the way home and got a chocolate milk shake to keep the swelling down. And still being a little woozy from the anesthetics, I tried to suck down the frozen milkshake through a straw and blew out all four of my blood clots. I was literally terrified at all the blood that came out of my mouth. Needless to say, I had to clamp down on gauze for a hour to clot the holes back up...........:wtf:

Sounds like you made it through ok. Were your cheeks pretty swollen?
