Hello everyone, I am new and have been having some physical problems lately. Hopefully some of you can shed some light on what has been going on. I will try to explain this as quickly as possible without making it too long.
I have been smoking for about 4 years and the last 2 years have been very regularly. (I'm 22) In the last 3 years and actually the vast majority of the time that I have smoked I have smoked out of a bong/bubbler.
I was always good about taking breaks until recently when I found a very regular hook-up. Before, when I would smoke, I would smoke daily usually multiple times and when I ran out it would usually take me anywhere from 1-7 days to get my next bag. As a result I was taking small breaks which I know are important to do. When I found this regular hook-up back in July, I went the entire time without taking any sort of break more then 2-3 days. Not only that but during most of that time I was smoking pretty much all day everyday.
A couple years ago I discovered how good it was to smoke and masterbate/have sex.
I actually stopped smoking and masterbating because it was too difficult to pee afterward. Several months ago, I started hacking up a lot of phlegm when smoking. It got to a point to where it felt like I was killing myself because I was coughing so much and I was spitting up so much mucus. It got a point where I literally felt I was endangering myself with smoking.
Not only that, but over the last 6 months... maybe even longer smoking marijuana has started to make me pee a lot. Basically I'll smoke and 5 minutes later I will have to pee and I will pee a lot when I go to the bathroom. Sometimes I will have to get up 3 times in a 30 minute period and each time I will pee just as much as the last time without having taken in any fluids.
It started getting to a point where the urge to pee would get so bad that I couldn't even pee and I would have to sit down and wait some 15-20 minutes to just get my urine flow gong.
On New Years, I took an oath that I would cut back immensely on my smoking. I did it because I wanted my lungs to heal up. When I was telling my therapist about my condition he said I had sinusitus and that I needed to see a doctor. I had gone about a month without any smoking and for 2 days I suddenly got a lot worse and was coughing up phlegm all day. That weekend I smoked and it felt like I almost killed myself. I then had to go to the bathroom and was barely able to pee. The next day I wasn't coughing up nearly as much so that was a relief. I smoked again the next night and it felt much better and peeing wasn't nearly as bad although my urination was quite frequent. I have since smoked one more time and my coughing isn't that bad but the urination is still a chore.
Has anyone else experienced any of this. I already know what my problem is regarding my lungs. I am fairly certain that I have an upper-respiratory infection. My main concern is the urination because I don't see any of my smoker friends going through any of what I am going through and think there may be an underlying problem.
If it helps at all, I have been the most stressed out I have ever been in my life for the last few months. Thats my reasoning as too why I am still sick with the respiratory infection. But this thing with urinating has been going on for quite some time. It's only been about 6-7 times where I have had a really hard time getting my urine flow going but the frequent urination has been a problem for a long time.
Any insights. I am actually scheduling a doctors appointment very soon but hopefully someone can shed some light on this before I go to the doctor.
And lastly, I do drink a ton of water everyday but never drink coffee and rarely drink anymore.

your problem lies with the abuse of bongs. you need to lurn to respect the joint a bong is a thing you do now n then. i am suprised u have managed to do them for over 2 years i used to do bongs only untill i got to the stage where my breathing was poor i was always ill and tired in the morning and coulghing up mountains of green n brown crap. stop the bongs and just do joints. bongs are an acasional thing not to be abused!!!
u are probily peeing so much because i bet u drink fluids to help your throat drinking constantly will make u pee more oftern .......

want to do a search on vaporizers! Cleared my cough right up. Glad you're going to see the doctor! It's the smart thing to do when there is a potential for serious problems!- Granny

synfull... I totally agree with you on the thing about the bongs. I never really saw it as abusing bongs, because I have always known bongs as being the cleanest alternative to vaporizers. Lately though I have been smoking joints more as opposed to bongs, and it doesn't kill me as much.
Unfortunately, you are incorrect about the drinking water. I generally don't drink anything when I smoke and I keep peeing and peeing and its gets to a point where I'm like where is all this fluid coming from.
Storm Crow: I have never smoked out of a vaporizer but I have heard a lot about them lately. I will definitely be looking into that more.

So I just came back from the doctor and he gave me a prescription nasal spray and told me to take my choice of either clairitin or zyrtec. Thats for my hacking/coughing.
As for the urination he took a urine sample only to come back and tell me that everything is normal. WTF?
He also took my blood sugar and that was also normal so no diabetes.
I explained to him the situation about smoking, the recent stresses in my life (there has been a lot), lack of exercise, among other habits and he came up with several conclusions. The first one:
He says that pot may be relaxing the muscle that holds urine in and contracting the muscle that lets it out. You obviously want the opposite to be happening. Hence, everytime I smoke it feels like I have to pee really bad and its hard for me to get my urine flow going. After I'm done smoking, I'm still a little messed up until the next day. If i smoke everyday which use to be the case then I will probably have a recurring problem. My question is What the hell? If what the doctor is saying is true then how come I have never read about anyone else ever having this problem, not to mention the various people I have spoken with who are also smokers.
He said, it may be a problem of an over-active bladder. I can possibly see this because for my whole life I have always drank a lot of water and have peed a lot as a result. However lately it is becoming a nuisance.
Another thing he brought up was the possibility of an under-active sphincter. We didn't really touch on this.
He said that the problem is most likely functional and not physical, although it may be chemical which I'm assuming is marijuana related.
He also said that those things combined with stress could be the cause to frequent urination problem.
I see my therapist on Monday who is an MD and we'll go over the results and we'll see what his thoughts are on it. I'm sure he's going to tell me to go see a urologist.

At one point when I got really high I couldn't keep still cuz all my muscles just had too much energy. It was bad, like I was clenching my teeth together really hard without even knowing.
Then I became able to control it. I was able to stop everything in a moment. It was all mental.
Maybe your situation is all mental. And here's the interesting thing. 2 things made it worse: Thinking about it, and believing that I can not control it.
I think your problem is all mental. Just smoke fearlessly and know that you won't have any problems at all. That's the only way to stop bad highs.
BTW, I can never take a shit when I'm high. I'm just too relaxed to do so.

This is an old thread, but it applies to my case.
I've been having the same problems for a while now. It started this past summer (2007) when I noticed that after I'd smoke marajuana I wanted to go pee shortly after and it was hard to pee. Sometimes I'd wet my hands and keep the water running to help me urinate. Went it seemed impossible, I got in the shower and that usually did the trick.
I'd pee a lot. Just like you said. I'd pee tons of urine and I hadn't drank any fluids. One time, I even ran a test on myself. I got out of bed, got rid of my morning urine, and smoked a bowl. I made sure I didn't drink any fluids at all, and it happened. I, as before, peed a lot.
Just like you, I have smoking friends who don't have this issue at all, and it frustrates me for having to go through this every fucking time I smoke.
Did you happen to find anything else about this condition?

Man... it also happens with me... whenever im high is far more difficult to pee... i have to concentrate all my mind in the task of letting it flow... i think what your doctor told about one muscle relaxing and another contracting is true, at least for me... it would explain it, as i have a real hard time in relaxing the muscle which allows the pee flowwww... but when it does... what a relief it is... ahhhhh......... mmmmmm....... it an almost orgasmic thing just be there, pissing... :stoned:

Yeah I having the same problems, but it started recently about 3 months ago I was feeling fine smoking away having a good old time then all the sudden I woke up and smoked that day and haven't felt right ever seance. Don't really know what to do. Trying to set up an appointment to see a brain specialist, now the problem persists weather I do or don't smoke just gets worse when I do.

I occasionally have this problem (difficult...). Seems like I can connect it to using fractionalized forms of cannabis- such as vaporizing, extracts or even water pipes with diffuser.
In my experience, smoking in a hand pipe or a water pipe with normal amount of filtration seem to have the least effect on urinating. If you eat it, use recipes like firecrackers that use the whole plant as opposed to butter.
Anyone else notice this connection?
Here is an article expounding on how this could work- whole plant causing less side effects than extracts: http://www.omma1998.org/McPartland-Russo-JCANT%201%283-4%29-2001.pdf

Up date a quote from a Neurocare doctor "If you are still having symptoms, it may be that there is an ongoing problem with your urinary tract that has not been treated."
And "Bladders can be reactive to things one is allergic to, it is a mucous membrane organ like your nose, and it 'sneezes' when it is irritated."

i had 3 UTI's when using weed and i think it's do to masturbation...i suggest getting Cipro for a week and go from there...sounds like UTI...i don't buy weed relaxes muscle holding pee in and constricts pee from coming out...sounds bogus to me but i'll ask my doctor this week and get back to you...i haven't Vapoed in 10 days but i'm firing up the Hotbox now...why?...in the past month weed has made me pee wonderfully and i can sleep 8 hours without ever getting up even if i drink before bed...with weed i pee a few times a day and the flow is great...better than using my Terazosin i use for pee flow...and i love to pee it's darn near orgasmic as i get into it becoming the pee tee hee...during these 10 days with no Vaporizer my flow has been resticted to trickle trickle and frequency and urgency feeling with little coming out...and now i can feel real short, almost undetectable, shots of pain in my lower left quadrant...so, i'm going to toke now and if my pee starts a flowing, and there's no urgency no frequency and i don't get up to pee then i'm not going to stop toking...not toking , now , may cause another UTI...like i say i'll ask my doctor next week and let you know...a nurse friend told me her thinks it relaxes something-or-other muscle...relaxing the muscle that holds pee in i would think is exactly what is desirable...i think your doctor is making stabs in the dark and doesn't really want to find out exactly what's going on...a urologist would help...i think i'd ask for Cipro just for the heck of it...i had 3 UTI's and cipro helped each time and i think it really did away with it...but, will it come back if i quit weed?

also , if i were you , i'd try drinking 16 glassed of water...sounds like a lot but i think it's worth a try...one ought to drink between 12 to 16 glasses per day...water is to the body what oil is to the car...........
jcjs33

correction...8 glasses ought to do it...but, since you suspect something is wrong down there like a UTI i'd slam down a lot of water, prune juice and cranberry juice and i'd go to the Mayo Clinic site and ask them....

I have experienced similar problems from time to time, and I think this is a part of the problem.
Through out most of my life, I think that a lot of the times that I would piss, I would be putting pressure behind my stream to help push it out quicker or something?
Well, I think if you have done something similar, you've built a tolerance to patience, and muscle relaxation..
So, maybe our bladder is used to working out while it is pissing? It's not used to just flowing freely and effortlessly..
So, from now on try to almost meditate while pissing on using no muscles, and keeping a comfortable pissing process. Because I can imagine being frustrated not getting any urine out as fast as you would want to, so you kind of try to push it out, but try to just be as normal and natural and relaxed as possible.

hey guys, first time poster I googled this exact problem and came across this message board.
I have been smoking for quite some time, but never a heavy smoker, if I have on me, i'll smoke daily, but only once a day, usually at night before I go to sleep. I've smoked for a good year or two without any negative side effects physically.
For the past 3-4 months or so whenever I smoked I felt alot of pressure build up in my groin area and the urge to pee often. I would go and pee (it would often take a while to get myself going) but eventually it would come out and i end up going multiple times an hour. eventually, the urge went away.
about 3 weeks ago, I smoked, and as usual for the past few months, the urge was there. I peed a few times and afterwards the urge/pain became worse. Along with feeling like I had to pee constantly, it began a sharp pain/sensation. The urine coming out was very white-ish and cloudyish
The pain did not go away for a few days. For streches of time, I was going to the bathroom every 10 minutes I told some family about it and they said I probably have a UTI. I called up a urologist for an appointment but he couldnt see me for a bunch of weeks. However, they gave me a prescription for "bactrim" and had me take a urine test (thy never called me about results).
Anyway, I took the antibiotics for 10 days and the pain subsided and I felt better. I did NOT smoke during this time. That leads me to earlier tonight where I smoked for the first time since. I took but 2 hits from my pipe, and the urge/pain came soaring back. I am running to the bathroom every 10 minutes now (same white-cloudy urine), and am in extreme discomfort its almost 5am and I can't sleep.
Obviously I will try and see a doctor as soon as possible, but it its early sunday morning (super bowl sunday!) and I know I won't be able to see one in the immediate future. Anyone have any advice/suggestions for me?
I never knew smoking marijuana caused UTIs...I have so many friends who smoke and none of them suffer from this problem...There has to be something else wrong with me, and weed is just somehow triggering it, right?
Also, any techniques of how to subside the pain would be greatly appreciated
Thanks guys.

From the Mayo Clinic:
Prostatitis: a disease of the prostate gland. Symptoms: pain in the groin, painful urination, difficulty urinating and related symptoms.
Kidney infection (pyelonephritis): A specific type of urinary tract infection (UTI) that generally begins in your urethra or bladder and travels up into your kidneys. Symptoms: Lower back or groin pain, Abdominal pain, frequent urge to urinate, pain when urinating.
Urinary tract infection: An infection that begins in your urinary system. Your urinary system is composed of the kidneys, ureters, bladder and urethra. Symptoms: A strong, persistent urge to urinate, A burning sensation when urinating, Passing frequent & small amounts of urine, Blood in the urine (hematuria) or cloudy, strong-smelling urine, Bacteria in the urine (bacteriuria).
Interstitial cystitis â?? also called painful bladder syndrome â?? is a chronic condition characterized by a combination of uncomfortable bladder pressure, bladder pain and sometimes pain in your pelvis, which can range from mild burning or discomfort to severe pain. Symptoms: A persistent, urgent need to urinate, Frequent urination, often of small amounts, throughout the day and night. People with severe interstitial cystitis may urinate as often as 60 times a day. Pain in your pelvis (suprapubic) or between the vagina and anus in women or the scrotum and anus in men (perineal).
Prostate gland enlargement: a common condition as men get older. Also called benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) and prostatic hypertrophy, prostate gland enlargement can cause bothersome urinary symptoms. Symptoms: Weak urine stream, Difficulty starting urination, Stopping and starting while urinating, Dribbling at the end of urination, Frequent or urgent need to urinate, Increased frequency of urination at night (nocturia), Straining while urinating, Not being able to completely empty the bladder, Blood in the urine (hematuria), Urinary tract infection.
Read about these, I'm willing to bet one of these is the problem. Tell your doctor that it worsens when you smoke. He won't care. Hope this helps dude, good luck!

For me, its sometimes hard to urinate while stoned, even if i really have to go. I figured that it was all mental, as when im really stoned, it reminds me of dreaming, so i figure that my mind doesnt want to let the flow go because it thinks i might be peeing myself. It takes some concentration, but i just try to slow my heart rate/take deep breaths, and just try to relax.
So like someone already mentioned, maybe it could be mental?..and yeah, stressing about it doesn't help either. Like when you masturbate and worry too much about cumming, you'll probably cum right away, right? :P
