Im ify on this and was wondering other opinons. I got a couple CFLs im using for veg, but this grow i think i sprouted more plants then the CFLs can handle so my question is instead of goin out to buy more CFLs and sockets, could i just use the HPS light for the rest of veg trhough flower?....i mean if the yeild difference isnt that much i was just gunna do that cuz im kinda broke......whaddaya think?

After seedlings are about 2 weeks old, you can use HPS for the rest of the veg cycle. Many growers only use HPS lights.

I used nothing but HPS light for the longest time, and suffered few ill effects from using it during veg. With a MH, or sufficient blue spectrum light from fluorescents, the branches won't stretch quite as much...giving you shorter, stockier plants. Especially if you're growing a plant that's predominantly indica. But you can easily train or top most varieties to keep the stature squat and manageable.

Well i plan on doin LST on these babies, and whats funny is my last grow, my plant that was next to a CFL opposed to the one next to it that wasnt [both were under the HPS tho] was branchy as hell as the one next to the CFL was one stem buds...lol might have been the strain but i thought it was funny....how bout ill use the HPS now since its been exactly 2 weeks, but ill leave the 2 CFLs in there [lower] so it gets bit of a bluer spectrum as well....would that be my best bet prob?

It'll help to keep some of the stretch under control. Just make sure you keep your temps in a good range, and the plants should love the extra light.

you sure can use only hps all of the way through.

So heres a cell phone picture of my 2nd setup [cant find my digital cam right now], you can see my {hopefully} 8 girls growing, about 16days since they were planted. The 2 CFLs, and the HPS lamp is above the picture [cut out becuz it was causing the picture to get those crazy lines in it as you can see] One Fan up top blowing in and down on plants behind HPS lamp, and theres another fan blowing out at the bottom where that cardboard is....:rastasmoke:

Hey sunny. Looks like a good start. What wattage HPS do you have and what strain are you growing?

I use a 400 HPS for veg and flowering. I use the 600 HPS when they are almost ready to switch to 12/12. Your gonna be fine! Pump up the volume (lumens)!

Its a 400 or 450 watt i forget.....this is just seeds ive gotten from bags of weed....last ones i planted like that i got some REAL GOOD SHIT outta it. So im hoping for another good turn out. I figure some of these are gunna end up males like 3 of 5 on the last grow did. Im probably gunna go til they're about foot-foot1/2 then start flower...figured 4-5 more weeks

you better think about getting them 2 plants into seperate pots very soon. you don't want your roots to grow into each other. i would go ahead and get them into maybe 1 gal. pots. not a soil grower, but i would think this needs to be done before those plants decide to fight for supremsis. Also, i would go to 18/6, that allows for optimum root growth.

450??? 430 I can see. What kind of light is it? Ballasted?

SunnySativa
02-01-2008, 02:34 AM
yea, maybe its 430. I know its somewhere in the 400 range. And i was gunna put each one in its own 2 gallon pot [those black ones] then i got lazy and just wanted to get the plants in soil [cuz they were like 2 inch long roots in the water paper towel, i mean i got like a huge green pot, prob like 10 gallons or something, i was gunna put the plants with the 3 together in [plenty of space cuz i've already grow 3 in it before], but im not growin them to big this time so im thinkin 2 in a 2gallon pot is fine, bit tight, but it should work [i grew a foot1/4 clone in one of those little pots you see in the picture] What should i look for is there isnt enough space for the roots, the leaves and plants to droop?

If your plants get rootbound, they will get stunted and dry out fast. One gallon per month is a good start. 3-4 gallon pots is good if you have the room.

SunnySativa

Yea im pressed for space and biggest pots i have are 2 gallons but i might just veg for a month then flower for a month, itll be a tight squeeze, but it should work out....also, when i go into the flower stage after i pull the males ill have more dirt and room to work with, so ill prob do transplant [if need be] after my first week of flower

Sunny,
I use growbags with my mothers. They work great! One month of flower will not take them to where they should finish. I'm saying, veg a month then flower for about another 6 to 8 weeks. That should get you close to harvest. With a bit more potency added to the buds. They will be able to have the time to produce more trichs,if given the added time in flowering stage.

BETTER PICTURES, CHECK EM OUT.....gettin ready for some LST and im thinkin about goin to flower for sexing so i can start transplanting the fems to bigger pots.....i think ill prob wait a couple weeks tho being they are still pretty small [as for those real tiny ones, im not refering to them cuz they obviously need a couple more weeks to grow then the other few

[HPS, Fan-in are above the picture, Exhaust Fan-out, is at the bottom of the second picture which is also cut out]

The plants look a little heat stressed. You should exhaust at the top of the grow area and put the intake near the bottom You also need a small fan to circulate the air around the plants too. Maybe you have a circulating fan but I didn't see one.

What are you using for nutrients?

SunnySativa
02-06-2008, 09:24 PM
No, no cirrculating fan, i only got 2 of those little black fans [one at bottom, one at top] I switch em around though so exhaust is out the top...i dunno why i didnt have it like that in the first place with hot air rising and all lol. As far as nutrients go, i have this Expert Gardener slow release stuff [only thing i could really find in wal-mart, plants section, slim selection in the dead of winter] it is 19-6-12. Little pellets you mix with the soil and its suppose to feed plants up to 6 months. My last grow i used a little bit of it and got pretty good results, could be better though i know

It's not too late to repot your plants into a better medium. Just do it. Time release fertilizer is possibly the worst type to use. You can't afford not to fix it, really. I know where you can get some good mix in town.

i mean im using miricle grow potting soil mix, i figured that was prob the best stuff [in walmart] and around here right now since its winter....but what did you have in mind???

You can get Pro-mix BX at Frank's Nursery. You can get even better mix at a hydro store but it's in Greensburg.

If not, I'm sure there are other places like Trader Horn that have supplies.

SunnySativa
02-11-2008, 03:35 AM
Trader Horn would have nutrients that Wal-Mart wouldnt?...ill check that Franks place tomorrow but on a different note, i want a good yield but i dont want my pants to be as big as my last grow, but i do want a fair amt to harvest. Whats good length, last time i flowered around foot and 3/4s, my first successful grow i didnt realize that the plants double in size. I thinking wait til they r about a foot tall and then flower....This way my 2 gallon containers will work out from the system i heard of a gallon for every foot....

sounds like a plan, i grew mine too big this time too. next time i will know better.lol. i did them in 2 gallon pots also, since the 3.75 gal took up more room than i had. i can tell the difference though, 2 gal pots where the plants are too tall, leave some imature/slow branches at the bottoms. 3.75 gal they filled out more but the roots didnt use all of the space and i couldnt fit as many in.

Trader Horn has peat moss and perlite in 8 quart bags. Mix two parts peat moss with one part perlite.

This will give you a potting mix with a pH of around 5. That's not good. If you use peat, you need lime.

There's lime at Trader Horn. I saw people at Frank's at the back in the greenhouse.

It's tough to predict with so many unknown factors involved. I would suggest using a screen to make an even canopy of colas to maximize your yield. Do a search on "scrog".

You should go to the local meet-up and learn about medical marijuana. The next meeting is in a couple of weeks. :stoned:

local meetup? never heard of it? Pepper you got like aim or something we could chat quicker back n forth, hit me up on aim my screen name is Sunny Sativa, easy enough lol. Id love to know more about this meeting....as for the plants imma have a picture up soon of the progress, itll be in veg for a month come Valentine's Day lol so im thinkin ill flower within the next week.
