Hey guys I'm about to purchase another bowl. I want one that looks good and can hit well. Do different bowls hit differently? If so then what should I look for? Because I want a bowl that can get me baked

thanks

Im the kinda guy, who will ask where the bowl is. Stand up- And it was in my lap, now on the ground. So I look for a nice Tough, Thick bowl. I do like one that looks good and has a Carb or Shotgun.

If I wana get baked I personally use my SteamRoller
( http://www.superpiece.com/photos/steamrollerhpsr1.jpg )

I got one mayby 7-8 inches long and 1-2 inch around. And that thing HITS like a mother fucker. Steam's also arent tooo incredably expensive.

If you got $$$ go with a bong. But that always requires lots of carefullness and water and somtimes a mess.

there are several factors to consider.

One obviously enough for most is look, what do you want it too look like, you want to find something that you like, not your friends, though if you come to agreeance on some pieces its always a plus, especially when you smoke with them a lot.

2 is price, find your price range, there is no need to find a piece if you cannot afford it.

third-type, there are several types of bowls, think about what you want, carb/no carb, deep bowl/shallow bowl, long/short, and size of your holes at the mouth and the carb

four, material, glass? metal? acrylic? combinations? its up to you to decide what type of materials will fit your needs. Glass looks prettiest, but is fragile. Metal is sturdy, but heavy, and many people find that they have a "taste" one which i personally enjoy, plastic, and stone is heavy and not too fragile, though they can chip, and plastic is plasticy. Pick one or several.

tip-if you have hair that is in your face/on your face, make sure you get a piece that is long enough that you wont burn your hair when you smoke out of it, ive lost a few moustache hairs too a bic once or twice.

IMHO-

**Bong - Top notch smoothness, no harsh throat afterwards. gets you the most baked...

**Bowl - Perfect for on the road or at work/school..(has to be thick glass). a tad more harsh than a bong

**Bubbler - too much trouble than its worth... tips over too easily, and i find its hard to take monster bong-like rips without charring my throat

**steam roller - ugh.... the harshest of the harsh..you cant puff it like a bowl...instead you have to revert to inhaling a fat ball of smoke strait down to your throat...

**VOLCANO - Pure ecstasy!!!! clear non sleepy yet still stoney high... no harshness (no smoke either) the cream of the crop IMO

I like a bowl that is easy to clean, made of thick, durable glass, and has a rather long stem to allow the smoke to cool off a bit.
The cleaning part is important to me.
If you are feeling warm and fuzzy, look for a piece made by a local artisan. They are often comparable in price, since there is no cost of shipping from Pakistan and only one intermediate vendor- the actual shop, rather than a wholesaler- so you are getting a quality piece AND helping the local economy! :hippy:

Hmm I've never even heard of a steam roller. Maybe I'll checm them out, but yeah I'm not interested in bongs because of the size and plus my friends have had their slider break twice.

Wow informative post. Style is important to me, but I'll sacrifice it if I can get a nice functional bowl that hits well and is easy to clean. My budget is $30 and I prefer a glass bowl. I'm not too sure what a carb is, but I guess I want a long pipe with a deep bowl.

Are they really that bad? ToDrunkToFish likes them

I just want a bowl that is durable and easy to clean as well as hits extremely well. What would an ideal bowl look like to you guys? What is necessary for a good bowl?

Thanks

smokedoja may of made it sound a lil TOO harsh. But in a way I agree. But its really not that bad. If you get some nice smooth good weed its just fine. As he said you cant puff it. But its just a huge hit in one fell-swoop one after the other. Which is why I get really stoned. Also the steamroller is super easy to clean. There are no 'Bowl' parts for resin to get stuck in where you can't reach.

Hope that helped a lil more.

Bowl size is also important. Large/medium/small...... Obviously, starting on the lowest end of size, you have your one-hitters. You can get those for really cheap, but the downside is that it's made (as it's name implies) for taking one single hit at a time.

Normal pipes start with bowls that can be packed with about .2-.4 grams at a time. This size is great for personal use, though you can obviously get a bigger one and just fill it partway. Not too bad for use in groups, but I find it needs to be refilled after five-six hits, depending on who is taking the hit.

Then, of course, you have bowls that can pack anywhere up to a gram at a time, some possibly bigger. These are great if you smoke with others a lot, as you don't have to refill every ten seconds.

A bowl size that's too big/small for your consumption needs can be aggravating. Either you have to put more in there than you want to smoke, risk it falling through to the bottom of the pipe if you don't put enough in, or if it's too small, you have to refill it a few times to get high. My pipe at the moment can pack in about .35 grams, which I find is a good size if it's just me or me and my roommate smoking.

Carb/no carb? Well, a carb is the little hole you hold your thumb over when smoking out of most pipes. When it's covered and you're sucking in air, all the air hitting the burning pot is coming from up above and tehn being sucked into the pipe stem. This makes it cherry very nicely and keeps it burning. You release the carb to flood the pipe stem with fresh air, which allows you to clear all the smoke out of the pipe and put it where it belongs: in your airways! :-) Carbs are great; personally I prefer them, as they cool the smoke by hitting it with fresh, cool air, and you don't have to worry so much about accidentally getting a mouthful of ash.

Also, another thing to look at is stem length. The longer the length, the better chance the smoke will cool a bit before it hits your lungs. The cooler it is, the more you can inhale at a time/longer you can keep it in without coughing. Also, the bigger the stem, the bigger hits you can take since there's more places for smoke to fill before you clear it.

After all of that, comes color and looks and all that jazz. Those preferences are totally up to you, but honestly don't get a piece whose look you hate simply because it fits the bill for everything else. Get something you know it will be a joy to get high out of.

Make sure you look at the hole inside of the bowl... If it's too big, you'll always end up sucking ash through, and need a screen... If it's too small, it won't pull as effectively. I like going with a hole that's the size of the point of a dull pencil.

We cant tell you what bowl to get dude. you have to go to the shop, and just stare at them all for hours like we all do. When you see the one that is right for you, you'll know. go friend, and bring back a sick ass bowl with lots of pics.

Like someone above said make sure the hole isn't too big, sucking in ash is nasty. Also you should get one that you can leave on a flat surface without it rolling over, and one that looks sturdy. Other than that it's all up to preference.

Try to find a baby bong.

They are a much better version of bubblers lol. Bubblers are messy and hard to keep clean.

I have this little 8" glass bong. I just swish some iso around in the bottom before and after each use and it stays peachy clean!

I found mine for $40 and it is thick glass, I kicked it across the room the other day and only broke the external slide piece, bong is fine :)

well i didn't even bother to get through all the posts on this one, but incase it hasn't been drilled into you by now; a good bowl is one that if tough, so you don't beak it in the first week you buy it (i've done that a few times). And secondly one this is simple to clean. I find the blown glass ones look cool, but try getting that caked on res off in the top area where its folded, you will never get it perfectly clean. Best bowl i ever had was one in a GEAR bong that was just a straight >-----, i just wiped the top out, and pipe-cleaned the straight after every use, really i think a clean bong is pinnacle if you ever want to taste what you are smoking. And im sure if you are willing to invest the cash into a bong, that you are probably willing to invest some cash into some quality herb, so my guess is that you do.

When I go through all the bowls i look for one that attracts me that i think looks very nice and beutiful... Next I look for if it hasa carb... After that I then check and see how thick and durable the glass is... Then I look to see how large the hole on the mouthpiece is and how large the chamber in there is... Finally I look at bowl size and how large the actuall bowl part are and how large the hole at the bootom is.

Those are my steps in choosing a bowl!

i saw in a shop one time this guy had some bowls that broke easily like mine if you dropped them, but some were made of some glass that you could bang on a table and wouldnt break. does anyone know what that kind of glass is called or just a term for it?

Yeah, Bubblers suck because alot of the time they are top heavy, or lopsided so they tend to spill thus soaking your ganj.

For portability I use a glass piece that is about 3 inches long with a sm/md sized bowl.

Or you should just roll a j

I know that my piece has a really sturdy feel to it because it has like a matte finish instead of a smooth shiny finish. Otherwise it might be fragile because its a pretty thin piece.

dont buy a bubbler. if you want, you can buy a sweet small bong, i have a 15 cm bong that i got off drbongs.com for 25 bucks. Otherwise, I'd say buy a nice spoon.

hell yes brotha. Somebody knows what I am talking 'bout. Sure beats any other glass pieces in the category of 'under a hundred bucks' that I have ever used.

And even then, huge, nice bongs cannot match the portability and ease of cleaning. Mine fits in my pocket and in the sink!

yeah man but when it comes to our delicious wonderfulness, it's worth every penny. I have to agree 100% that a volc is the cream of the cream of the cream.....OF the cream of the crop!
As I always say- you have to live with what you bought, long after you forget how much you paid for it. so go big or go home imo

I find the most important thing in a pipe or bong bowl to be the actual shape of the bowl itself.

often times, you will come across a mass-produced metal or glass bowl shaped like this \ /
the problem being, air is pulled in from the sides rather than straight down and the weed on the bottom is burned unevenly as a result.

I prefer bowls shaped in this fashion: U. steep sides, and deep. this way, air is being pulled directly down from the top making it easier to cherry the bowl.

I usually compare bowl width and depth using my pinky finger. stick your pinky into the bowl, then the next, then the next and see which bowl harnesses your pinky the most comfortably
