Folks

I am at day 31 flower. Jack Herer strain. I vegged with a 400 W MH then switched to 400 W HPS when I went to 12/12. I was wanting opinions on if it would matter if I switched back to the 400 W MH lamp just to give the buds a different light spectrum. I am 1/2 way through the flower cycle. I only have one ballast as its an interchangable. I went ahead and through the 400 W MH in just for the hell of it. I understand that it is better to use HPS for the flower cycle but just for experimental purposes I thought I would try 1/2 the flower cycle with HPS and half with MH. Do you think I will diminish my yield or affect the potency of the buds by switching to MH? Should I just go back to the HPS? Is giving the flower cycle the MH spectrum a positive thing or does it matter? What are your alls thoughts on this?

Peace :stoned:

The plant is going to want more red spectrum for flowering than blue, so just giving it mostly blue will probably diminish yield a bit. I'd just switch back to HPS if I were you.

Agreed....yield would be affected.....why expirement with something KNOWN to be less effective for your plants? I don't get it.

If you want to add light with a different spectrum, you may think about adding a CFL or two beneath the HPS. I like to match the color of the CFL's I use with the spectrum of the lights they're under. But some people like doing the opposite and prefer to keep alternating spectrum's. Definitely don't flower under a MH if you have HPS readily available.

For little money you could just get some floros and put a couple vertical to your plant. Would help ya!

The appropriate time to be concerned with bluer light in flower is at the beginning, during the 'stretch' period, when your plant will benefit the most from it. After about the second week in flower, when you see bud formation, that's the time to put the HPS bulb in, and keep it in until harvest. The MH light can help decrease stretch, but finishing under MH will yield fluffy and less massive buds.
