I live in NY so it's not even legal here, but I;m still curious. Do you need to have like cancer and shit or like some terminal disease or something because that's what it used to seem like until I started visiting this site, and now I just want straight answers right from the horse's mouth.

Each state is different.
Where do you want to go?

well i don't even know all the states that allow it, and I'm just curious.
I know cali does, and as the most liberal state I guess that's where I'll drive my question towards. In cali what are the qualifications and whatnot ?

In Cali, you can be qualified for almost any condition that is helped by cannabis.
All you need is a diagnosis from a doctor, and you should be able to get a California card.

In my humble opinion, it all depends. There are "real" mmj patients and then there are the rest.
The rest are people who like the feeling and make excuses to smoke it. which includes me, but I don't claim weed is medicine. I just like the stuff.
and then there are people who rather smoke marijuana for serious conditions to relieve EXTREME pain(there are many people with many "conditions") or for an appetite due to treatment. as in cancer or AIDS(and "conditions" like that). and don't get me wrong, this is a great thing that cannabis can help these people. I just don't like the "rest of the people" who basically help the black market and run these "cannabis clubs" and give the whole cause a bad name. or the people who are fine, get high and claim medical use. that also hurts the "cause". the "cause", in my opinion, being to show society that the plant has positive instead of the image of it being completely useless.

I don't really like it when people claim a medical reason, if in fact they don't have a condition that is helped by medical marijuana, and they just really want to get high.
There's nothing wrong with getting high, and I personally only smoke to get high --- I don't have any conditions that are helped by weed. But I wouldn't try to get a medical card just so I could get high. There are people who really need marijuana as their medicine, and I think it ruins their legitimacy when people abuse that loophole just so they can get stoned.
Of course, I would like to see weed legalized for recreational use too, not just medical use. But until that time, I'm not going to ruin it for them, and I'll continue to obtain my weed illegally.

On the other hand, weed being illegal is unjust in the first place. MMJ is a ridiculous concept, marijuana should be legally available to anyone with the dough to buy it  See my sig
That being said, if medical marijuana was available here in the sunny state, I'd do anything I could to obtain it.

Well, I absolutely agree with that. It should be legal.
I'm just saying that here in California, voters voted in medical marijuana, not recreational. Some people really need it for real medical reasons, and I believe that. I don't think it was all a ruse so that we could all get bogus fraudulent cards and get high. Certainly the voters didn't think so. Now there is so much fraud and corruption, I would not be surprised if that law gets rolled back at some point and people who need their medicine get denied again. I wouldn't want to be a part of that.
It seemed like maybe the original poster was looking for a loophole in how to get his card. He didn't say, "I have THIS medical condition. Can MMJ help me? And where would I have to go to get a card for that?" He was just asking how to get a card. I don't know for sure if that is the case, but that's what it sounded like. In my opinion, you should just think twice before maybe ruining something for someone who needs it.
Beyond that, I totally aggree, it should be legal for recreational use as well.

If you have a condition that you feel would be helped by MMJ, then by all means go start the process of documenting that condition right away, even if you live in a non-medical state. This will help later if you move to an area that allows MMJ, or if your state does become legal. The state that I'm most familiar with is Vermont, and it's got very strict guidelines. You can't claim anxiety and get a script there, for example. Here's a link with some information:

My migraine headaches and the fact that I hate life without weed was good enough to get me my doctors note.
