And, then once the silence is broken, the person who breaks hit strings along more silence-breaking sentences.

I do hate that.

But what I hate more is when a slightly awkward situation occurs and somebody makes it much more awkward by saying "THIS IS SOOO AWKARD"

Yes... why does people cant simply be quiet?

And, then once the silence is broken, the person who breaks hit strings along more silence-breaking sentences.

Argh! I hate it too!

Damn i also hate that!

(Damn... how much hate from a peace-loving stoner... i think i need to smoke again...)

why make things even more awkward by saying shit like that ?

And that is a thing i cant understand... why does people feel awkward when the silence settles in? Does they think they have the "duty" of keep talking and feel "guilty" for not be doing their "duty" of talk all the time? WTF?

Yea I always saw it if you want to make sure everyone in the room feels as awkward as you then say "this is awkward"

People say things like "its so quiet in here" and "this is awkward" when what they really mean is "I hope no one knows I farted."

When a conversation hits a awkward lull, it's helpful to have an innocuous phrase or question that will make everyone feel more comfortable and eager to restart the conversation. Here are a few good ones:

"So is it true that your father is gay?"

"I've been battling a persistent toenail fungus."

"Have you accepted Jesus Chirist as your personal saviour?"

I'm extremely quiet, and alone. But when I am around other people I can loosen my comfort zones and share thoughts with others.

The way I see it is, you get what you put into a conversation. If someone is bothered by an awkwardness and they don't contribute, they need to find entertainment elsewhere.

The purpose of communication is to understand people and build foundations for companionship. Awkwardness is brought about by miscommunication, and it is our task as communicators to fix that error.

Don't you hate it when the thread you are posting in gets removed whilst you are replying to it. Thankfuly I only wrote a short sentence last time, a couple of lines, it wasn't an opus. Anyway, why are people saying "it's quiet in here then?"

Yeah, I have a new favorite saying. Read it somewhere online.. "Never miss an opportunity to shut the fuck up."
Couldnt be more perfect.

There's a scene in Pulp Fiction where the Uma Thurman character has a conversation with the John Travolta character about awkward silsences and why people can't just "shut the fuck up." It's a good scene. If you are comfortable with people you can share silence and be OK.

I love when that happens, and noone says anything after the one guy says its quiet.

Because it makes him feel stupid for saying it.

"it is so queit" used in the correct manner is good. Ex. I used it as an icebreaker to get everyone talking at the first day of class.

But I really f-in hate "this is awkward." Worst sentence in the world. I'd like to punch anyone in the face who says that.

when someone says that i say "yeah it WAS. it was nice."
that's a good lead into "well, that's awkward". what drives me even more crazy are people who still say "yeah?!?! your mom!" or "your FACE has homework. hahaha" or "your FACE looks tired today" its like shut up! are u 12?

This is why I watch the news and read random, stupid, trivial articles around the internet. So when these situations pop up I do my famous "So did you guys hear about..." can't say it covers every situation but a damn lot of them!

It drives me crazy when someone is talking and every other word is "like" or Uuh.. or um.. Old lady's daughter is one of those people. Not only does she feel the need to ask me a bajillion stupid questions, several times, but also feels the need to tell me what sickness shes got this week, and whats going on in her two sons lives. I hate being on the phone, first of all, then she shut the fuckin up, so i get short. real quick. she eventually gets the hint. GRRRRR
If youve got nothing to say.. STFU!!!!

It depends.. If everyone was laughing and having a good time and someone says something that causes the silence......then yea, saying "it's so quiet in here" would bother me. Usually, people who make everyone shut up aren't thinking before they speak. And especially if they are high, they do it in such a goofy way.
it's better to be quiet and think before you start communicating with people.

I like silence if no one has anything better to say.. maybe im just weird.

Kinda why I only really smoke with good friends these days, coz if there's ever silence, it doesnt matter... if you feel the need to zone out for a while, who gives a shit? nothing wrong with a bit of quiet, especially if you're all exploring the inner depths of your own consciousness :D
