i see this part in many aeroponic systems, i dont know whats its use and how to use it. I really dont think its neccessary but i dont want to take any chances when i build my own. thanks.

The first pic just shows an aero system, the second shows the part i want to know about.

Looks to me like it was put there to empty the tub.

Howdy Dimebag,

It looks like ya could use it for connecting a series of rez's,and possibly empty the tank..although it kinda seems funky,to empty the rez, with the jets spraying at the same time.

My Guess: To provide air outtake to relieve the pressure that builds up inside.

Torog.. I agree.. It looks like a place to hook up an extra resivor...Hydro stores sell these floating valves that work on gravity... when the main reservoir is low the valve pops open and lets water in from the back up reservoir (which is higher than the main reservoir) gravity pushes the water in.. : )

I think

My best guess is, its for easy drainage of the resivore, but the other ideas sound good too.

to high for a drain and would think to high to feed water in the res. as once up to this hight the spayers will not work properly as partialy submerged. Unless ther is a float addded somewere else to measure the water level. Good question though and would like to hear the answer

It uses the pump to drain.

(thinking out loud)the pumps at the bottom is pumping into a central pipe and jets, is this an external tap of the central pipe to clear the last half cup of water that didnt return to the reservoir to avoid blocking the jets or to hook to another unit: but the pump doesnt look big enough? If you had jets that could control flow and then turned them all the way off wouldnt that flow the water past the jets out the reservoir and provide drainage, there is no other outlet except to use a bucket- i reckon drainage by pump and turning the sparay jets of tight.
