I use to figure that people here would know about this magnificent pipe and all it's glory but after searching the forums and finding nothing about it I decided that I must post about it. Basically it's a metal pipe with a built in refillable butane lighter.
I got it for $70 at Solopipe, the world's first self-contained, self-igniting tobacco pipe. (http://www.solopipe.com)
YouTube - solo pipe (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ds0ni9NUFAQ)
That is not me in the video.
Here are some pics of my solopipe:

odd that a pipe would have a web address stamped into it permanently...
This pipe implements the feature quite well, the only difficulty being if you are accustomed to pulling the lighter away from the bowl instead of extinguishing it. I'd been considering working on a pipe that had a slot in it to accomodate a standard BIC but this solution of a completely self contained lighter looks much sexier. The only problem is if the lighter breaks, how easy is it to dismantle the pipe? If there are screws it would be perfect.

Actually man there are screws on it and when you buy the solopipe from its original website and your pipe breaks you can send it back along with $10 (for shipping) and get a brand new one. I think the website is engraved on there because I assume everyone who smokes the pipe wants one.

That's awesome that they offer a repair/replacement service, that honestly made my opinion of the company just double. I found it a bit odd and a bit low brow to put a .com logo on a device because it's an obvious advertisement and not just a brand name... it's there so that whoever you use it with will want to go there too. Not a bad idea at all, just seemed a little weak.

I saw that at a headshop yesterday. It's pretty neat but I didn't want to pay that much for it.

I was told they go for $50 at Planet K.

I like the idea of it being replaced, but if it was reeking of weed, I don't know what the company would do. I bet they assume most people use it for weed, but since its legally sold for tobacco, wouldn't they have to report it to the police because sending it back would be knowingly transporting drug paraphernalia?

well, if i were to smoke weed out of it and it broke, i wouldnt just send it back, i would clean it first if it were me, then it would be rather hard to say what was smoked out of it, and even then they probably dont inspect them, they probably just toss them into a smelting device to recycle the materials.
oh, and it is a nifty idea as well, id seen it on grasscity a few times, and read about it, but it didnt seem like a device for me, it just looks weird, and im a little vain about that kind of stuff, but i thought it was a good idea.

All you have to do is tilt the bowl any way you want the flame to go while you're lighting it.

that seems pretty bad ass. doesnt look like it would be as much fun as smokin a glass bowl though. i might have to pick one of those up :pimp:

its a nice design but i cant stand the taste of weed burned on metal. they should make a small glass insert that goes in the bowl, then i would be all over that.

i had the idea of a straight shooter attatched to a long lighter but its nice to see someone actually come up with a working design. i agree that glass would be so much better. but all in all, i might purchas one of those for my next pipe.

nifty yet somehow impractical for the price

That is awesome. $70 seems pretty steep though. I think the most I would pay for that would be around 30.

I got mine at a headshop for 50.
It's super practical though because you load a bowl and it doesn't spill like glass and you don't need a lighter.
I really wish it had a storage compartment and poker like the protopipe though.
