I have alot of little flies in my closet, but no-where else. What should I do ? They do not seem to be harming my tomatoes, fly paper or what ?

Watch the neem, I've burnt leaves with it before. What you got is fungus gnats- more a annoyance than a disaster. The larva (babies) will eat the roots of seedlings, but are relatively harmless to larger plants. But the gnats are a PITA!

First line of offense is some sticky fly traps (NOT the first-cousin-to-nerve-gas "No Pest Strip"- they are BAD NEWS!). The sticky traps should run you about a buck for a package of 4 at Wal-mart. This will get the adults. Replace the strips when they start losing their "sticky".

Second, foil your soil! (I know the "high power" light folks are going to scream at me for that, but I grow under CFL and tube fluoros and it doesn't cause problems for me!) Seems that little gnatty brains are easily confused! They look for non-reflective surfaces (like dirt) to lay their eggs on. When they have light coming from above and below, they don't know where to lay their eggs. Any eggs laid on the foil, hatch, only to starve. Commercial organic veggie farmers have used this technique for decades to "foil" insect pests. (sorry, couldn't resist the pun!) It just is too labor intensive on a big scale for most farmers. Good luck!

Fly paper installed and flies are gone. The problem originated when I had soil sitting in pots outside and I brought them in.

Thanks
