Dangerous? Well, I would avoid skin contact like the bottle says and wash hands fully after use even if you don't suspect contact.
Gels and liquids can be used as well. I recommend one with a fungicide. Dip-N-Grow is a liquid with fungicide and the best rooting compound I've ever used, hands down. Happily, it is also the cheapest! Yay.
How long has your cutting been in perlite, and what else are you using to create an ideal environment for rooting? Dome? Tray? Moisture level? Light? Part of plant you are using? How large a cutting? Any anti-transpirant? etc...

I think Stinkyattic pretty well covered it.:postgood:

I am using Rootone on my cuttings now, only time will tell.

In a pinch I have made my own Rooting Hormone.

Take a bunch if cuttings off a willow tree. 1/2 pan full
Cut them into about 6 to 8 inch pieces.
Put them in a large pan, fill with water.
Heat water till HOT, I don't boil it.
Let cool about 12 hours.
Presto, the liquid is now a rooting Hormone.
Drain and water your cuttings with it.

Any Willow will work, Weeping, Pussy, etc.

My mom use to root cutting in just water on the window sill.
I newer had any luck with that.

Good Luck :hippy:

If you wait until you have the right equipment, your survival will be a bit better.
You gotta check out a specialty gardening shop, since most garden centers just carry rootone powder.
Look in the phone book under 'hydroponics', lol... and we all know that is just a euphamism for I LOVE TO GROW GANJ INDOORS! :D
Oh- too MUCH light on a cutting leads to veg growth and you don't want that until it's got good roots. I just took about 90 cuttings last weekend and they are sitting in domes about 2 feet from a (hahahaha get this!) 20 watt incandescent bulb and have already 'struck'. Hee hee. But a low-wattage single CFL in the blue spectrum is great for that. Or if you can find an 'Ott Light', those are freaking COOL.
